Nassau bahamas

Atlantis is cool.. especially the cove. It has an adult only pool area with like 5 bars around it. If i had a do over, I'd pony up and stay there the other 2 nights besides being a cheap ass and settling for coral or whatever its called

Expensive as fuck to eat for any meal, unless it's hotel room service then it's somewhat affordable. A Johnny rockets cost me and wife $49 bucks lulz

Couldn't tell you anything about Nassau the town. Our driver drove us around a little bit but we didn't stop anywhere local... just stayed on the Atlantis resort/ tourist area

Go spend a day or maybe two in Eleuthra if you get tired of the Naussa resort life.  The Glass Window Bridge is incredible.

Big fan of that island.  Nothing touristy about it.....great people....easy to get around - locals will rent you their car for the day.

Stop in and have a drink with Lenny Kravitz if he's home.

This guy knows what he is talking about.  Eleuthera is amazing.  Its one of the further most eastern islands that has the Atlantic on one side and Caribbean on the other.  It's not for everyone.  No big party scene, no crowds, and 100's of miles of simple, clean pink sand beaches to explore.   Glass Window Bridge (google it) is amazing.   The most people we saw on any beach is maybe 10, often we were the only ones for hours.  And yes, you rent a car from a local for the day ($80.00) and go explore.  There is basically one road.  Amazing place to completely unplug.

Car rental return in Eleuthra goes something like this.....

Me:   When we leave, where do I return the car?

Renter:  Just throw the keys on the dash and leave it along the street around here.

Me:  Seriously?

Renter:  Man, its a long skinny island....Where's it gonna go?  I'll find it.

Was also told to disregard all warning and check engine lights.....car will run.

It is like two separate islands with a road down the middle when you compare the Atlantic side to the Caribbean side.

Last time we went down there we stayed on Cat Island. Sounds very similar. No big resorts or ports. Miles of stunning deserted beaches. It was the ultimate “chill” vacation.

Headed down in April for a week. Staying at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar and looking for some local restaurant recs and activities. Got booked for an all day private island thing with a large group of us on Thursday but that's all I have so far. Have meetings most of the mornings while we are there, but afternoons are open.

Anyone familiar with the resort golf course. Going to be a group of us, so that may be the easiest and looks like a nice track but cost is $220 for an afternoon round.

We paid $148.00 for 2 dinner buffets last night. Our burgers and 2 drinks were $98.00 for lunch at The Palm. If I wasn’t on a work trip, I’d go all-inclusive. Beautiful property but nothing is nearby to eat off property. Any savings would be offset by the taxi fare for any recommendations. It’s an expensive place.

I know you are there for work so you may not go playing golf, so if not see what others have to say about it. Seems like it should be a nice course. Would enjoy a rundown of your thoughts on the experience there. We are doing the Powerboat Tour one day but looking at what else there is to do other than just lay around the resort.

Didn't get a chance to play. I hear it's a nice course designed by Jack Nicklaus. The Hyatt runs shuttles there every 30 minutes. Never heard a bad review from those that played.

My experience was a little more unique as I was there with the NBA Players for their winter meetings and all that goes with that. (Schedules, private events, seclusion for meals, etc.) We didn't leave the resort this time. When I went last year, we went to Senor Frogs and toured downtown. Neither is that impressive.

TBH, I don't really like The Bahamas. The beach and water are fine but there isn't enough there to peak my interest. It's insanely expensive, coming from a NYer, and Nassau is the hub for cruise ships and resorts with kids. You can go parasailing, rent jet skis, etc. They have a swimming with the pigs tour like the Exhumas but I hear it's not worth the price. Atlantis is the star of the show but $200 for a water park ticket seems like a waste to me. I wanted to book a few activities, like a dinner cruise with the Mrs., but they were either very costly or looked lame. I much prefer Jamaica for activities and Turks & Caicos for relaxation.

The Atlantis is great if someone else is paying.
Same with Ocean Club GC.
My recommendation is to have your wife win a trip there.  Twice.

This is an incentive trip that my wife qualified for so I've got that going for me.

Stay in The Cove.  Enjoy the $150 boozy lunches and $250 afternoon swimup bar tabs and the $400 Nobu dinners.

If they were taking care of ALL expenses that would be the route to go. We have $1,000 resort credit for the week. Looks like that will be blown through in short order.

These were my meals for two (2) people:

Saturday: $148.00 for dinner (Regatta buffet w/ no alcohol)

Sunday: $46.00 for breakfast (Cafe Madeline for quiche and juice), $98.00 for lunch (The Palm 2 burgers w/ 3 alcoholic drinks total); $52.00 for dinner (We split a pizza at Pizza Lab, I had a Diet Coke and we each had a scoop of gelato that we brought to our room)

Monday: N/A as the client paid for all meals (Leftover pizza for breakfast, Cleo and the Italian place by the casino); I spent $32.00 at the sundry store on 2 bags of chips and 2 sodas for mixers for the bottles of Crown I bought at Duty Free

Tuesday: $86.00 for brunch (Sky Bar w/ 2 mimosas each)

So I spent $462.00 out of pocket for 4 days with the client fronting the bill for 2 meals. I used points for Saturday and Monday as my client only paid for Sunday night. I did get a VIP pass to breeze through Customs on arrival and round-trip airport transfers. I also had a few other meals in Dallas and NYC before/after my flights. (We flew from DFW and back to LGA) We didn't do any special tours or go into town because neither of us really wanted to.

Best of luck.

Assuming this is a sales trip deal?

THe VPs and higherups get bar tabs in the afternoons.  Just hang out with them.

Talk about high as a giraffe's nuts. Guess I'll have to work extra panhandling on the highway corner before the trip. Thanks for the report.

Eleuthera is great, no doubt. Will be there in a couple weeks actually. But if you want to actually get away, I'd head over to the Exuma chain. Much more remote. Or at least the south end of Eleuthera, which is the opposite end from Spanish Well and the Glass Window. Pretty barren down there, have to fly puddle jumper into Rock Sound or take your own boat.

Anyone have scoop on Atlantis, specifically Harborside villas? Leaning towards taking the family for the hoops tournament in November. We like to stay in a place with a kitchen, bedrooms and laundry, so Harborside specifically. Doesn't seem like you can book through the resort, it looks like they are mostly timeshares. I have seen a few on VRBO. Kids will be 12 and 8.

Surprised at how much flights are. Looking like $600/per or so.

I've not been to Eleuthera yet (but will in a week or two) so no recs there. Exumas though are great. Shroud Cay in the Exuma Land and Sea Park is amazing. Anchor on the north end and take the dinghy up the mangrove creek to ocean side. You'll see turtles in the creek and end up on an amazing beach. Just a magical place. The south end of Shroud is also beautiful.

Thunderball Grotto at Staniel Cay is also a can't miss.

You didn't eat at Fish Fry.  Shame on you.

ETA: Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas.  Best dive shop and dive excursions in the world.

Did you end up booking at Harborside? I’m looking at Atlantis, but was thinking Reef. We’d be going in May (wife and 4 yr old).

Any tips on Atlantis would be great.

Not yet. I'm still looking. After researching the VRBOs a bit, either my dates aren't available or you have to book the full week and a 2 bedroom villa is like $4500-$5500. Yikes. We can get a 2 bedroom villa at a neighboring property that has decent reviews (Sunrise Beach Club) for half of that and it's apparently a 5 minute walk to Atlantis. But I'm not sure what I'm missing out on by staying off property. Still researching.

Definitely if anyone has any Atlantis input, I've got ears.

Any fishing recommendations for someone staying at Atlantis.

DIL is trying to surprise son with a 1/2 day trip later this summer.

I told her I'd be somewhat leary of using the Atlantis concierge to book it and she should consider a private booking.

Any thoughts?

As far as Eleuthera goes, I highly recommend Glass Window Bridge. Check it out from the actual bridge. It’s one of the most amazing places on earth.

The island has over 110 miles of unspoiled beaches. You probably can spend a week cruising the western side starting north at Spanish wells/ Harbour Island. Great lobstering and spear fishing area when in season. Marina at Harbour Island usually has some impressive rigs. H.I. has completely different vibe then the rest of Eleuthera, much more cape cod, wealthy feel where as main land Eleuthera is still amazingly rustic and unspoiled. GREAT PEOPLE!

The marina at Cape Eleuthera on the southern side is supposed to be nice, though I have not been there personally. I loved governor’s Harbour (western middle of the island). The pink sand French leave beach and twin cove beach are on the eastern side of GH.

Check out light house point on the far southern tip. Disney bought it and is about to destroy-I mean- develop it- it’s often thought of as one of the most beautiful places in the Bahamas.

I can’t give any help w exuma, but if you need more info on Eleuthera, let me know. Post pics and travel details please. It might be a few years before I get back...

PS. My profile pic is from Glass Window Bridge.
