Tomorrow evening at 7:00 p.m. CST the non-tender deadline will come and go. That's when the teams must tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players or let them become free agents.

Players that are on Houston's roster that seem to be no-brainers to get offers are George Springer, Carlos Correa, Roberto Osuna, Lance McCullers Jr., and Aledmys Diaz. The ones I think that may be on the bubble, but most likely offered a contract, are Brad Peacock, Jake Marisnick, and Joe Biagini. The two remaining players, Aaron Sanchez and Chris Devenski, are the two players that may be the odd man out.

It never occurred to me that we would even consider non-tendering Jake. Non-tendering Sanchez makes sense. I really don't give a shit if Chuckles comes back. And I think it's time for Devo to go.

Still cannot fucking believe these dipshits couldn't win a home game and win the WS.
Fucking kick to the nuts.
Took a month off to decompress...unfortunately for you guys I have made my return

Brother?

This is me right here
I’ll be going on about my business and then randomly want to put my fist through the wall thinking about the last two weeks of October...
And I too stayed away from here for a while but made my first post yesterday in about a month.

Took you a few weeks longer than me. But I will always carry this with me as long as I live.

Why does anyone not like JD Davis, he played hard, kept his head down, and wasn't a complete spare. If I remember correctly he walked off a couple of early season games and started to figure it out once he started playing regularly. His problem is he was behind a top 3 AL players on the depth chart.  Good egg.

The first Astroline of the offseason was great tonight
biggio and billy Wagner called in
It was enjoyable. Had fun as always. Wagner has that lights out closer mind set. Found out the new season ticket holder area will be in club level. Take left field escalator up. Then after you walk in there is a area to the right(cant see the field or anything). Itll cost you a extra 2k per pass each year on top of your tickets. That was the rumor that we were told.

That area has always been a dead zone so at least they are going to try and utilize it.  Only time I ever saw anyone over there is if a company rented it out for a gathering.  2K is kinda steep though.

Meant to post this earlier but now needs an update even though it’s only 4 hours old

Kaplan on the OF situation, pre-Jake trade:

Three months from the start of spring training, the Astros have more outfielders than they project to have playing time available next season.

All six of them are viable major league outfielders. But when it comes to their 2020 roles, there are only two certainties: George Springer will play center field and bat leadoff and Michael Brantley will be in left field and bat somewhere in the top five in their order.

Kyle Tucker appears ready to at least get a chance to be the everyday right fielder, and Jake Marisnick could be back as the prototypical defense-first fourth outfielder for one more season. Myles Straw could be a reserve outfielder and infielder as well as a pinch-running specialist. Or he could begin the year back in Triple A.

But until the Astros determine whether Josh Reddick will be back and part of their 2020 roster, it’s difficult to project exactly how this position group will look come opening day. The veteran right fielder has long been thought of as a trade candidate this offseason. Yet because of his salary and 2019 underperformance, it’s far from certain a deal will actually come to fruition.

The greatest obstacle the Astros face in any potential Reddick trade negotiation is his salary. They owe him $13 million for 2020, the final year covered under the four-year, $52 million free-agent deal he signed in November 2016. Teams in need of a corner outfielder this offseason will see a lot of options on the free-agent market who would cost much less. So to trade Reddick, the Astros would likely have to pay down a significant portion of his salary.

And even then, they would have to temper their expectations for the return. Reddick, who will be 33 in February, has been a below-average hitter the last two seasons. He’s coming off a 2019 in which he had only an 89 OPS+, which means he was 11 percent less productive than the league average in his 550 plate appearances. That mark was his worst since 2010, when he had yet to establish himself as a full-time major leaguer.

Reddick with Houston AVG OBP SLG
2017 (540 PA) .314 .363 .484
2018 (487 PA) .242 .318 .400
2019 (550 PA) .275 .319 .409
The left-handed-hitting Reddick’s .676 OPS in the second half of last season paled in comparison to his slightly above average .761 OPS of the first half. He recently underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder, from which he is expected to be fully recovered ahead of spring training. He still plays above-average defense; he was one of three finalists for the 2019 AL Gold Glove Award in right field that went to Mookie Betts.

That the market for free-agent outfielders has been stagnant thus far won’t make it any easier for the Astros to move Reddick. And if it turns out weeks from now that the only way for them to trade him is to essentially pay him to play elsewhere, they might prefer to bring him back, maintain their depth and let him compete with Tucker for playing time.

An alternative would be for Houston to trade Marisnick, who makes a much more modest salary than Reddick and plays a premium position in center field. The Astros tendered Marisnick a contract for 2020 earlier this week, and MLBTradeRumors.com projects him to make $3 million through the salary arbitration process this winter.

Like Reddick, Marisnick has been a below-average hitter the last two seasons. But because he plays elite defense, he had a 1.2 bWAR in 2019, the same as Reddick and in 57 fewer starts and 232 fewer plate appearances. Marisnick turns 29 in March and, like Springer, Brantley and Reddick, will be a free agent after next season. In the scenario that they trade Marisnick, the Astros would have Straw ready to assume his role as the primary defense-first backup outfielder.

Tucker’s days of being speculated about as a trade chip are probably over, at least for the foreseeable future. The Astros have refused to part with him so many times over the years that they are essentially wedded to him at this point. Besides, they need outfielders for after next season, regardless of whether they extend or re-sign Springer. At present, their projected 2021 outfield consists of only Tucker and Straw.

Though it seems unlikely, it’s plausible the Astros could still bring back all six of their outfielders. Active rosters growing to 26 next season means they will carry an additional player on their bench. But this scenario would mean a competition for playing time between Tucker and Reddick and that Straw would begin the season back in Triple A. It also would seem to leave few, if any left field starts for designated hitter Yordan Alvarez, whose defense the Astros need to try and develop for 2021 and beyond.

This deal has no bearing on Reddick getting moved.  This was to allow Straw to be the cheaper replacement defense/pinch runner.

Reddick can still be moved  the Astros are just going to have to pay the majority of his salary so not sure how keen they are on doing that instead of just letting him rot for a year

I just do not get what they see in tucker that makes him untouchable.  I get that he's young, but his development just doesn't really move the needle to me.  his swing is long and awkward, and he appears often over matched at the plate.

[marks post for the occasion of Tucker’s HOF induction ceremony, July 2042]
