someone negged the Trout post?  LOLz.

I did because it’s a total sarcastic troll post. I’m fed up with these guys. They can post in the general MLB thread all they want. But I’ve decided to neg these haters every time they venture in here.

agreed.  I get where you're coming from.  I read it as a joke, but see it now.

One thing about it, in real life and in social media; I'm getting different reactions from across the board pro and anti- Astros.  It's polarizing as hell.  Strangely...

Like Trout can comment reliably about how he’d react to a playoff series clinching homer. You have to finish above .500 first, Mike.

He can reliably comment on playing for a staff that literally killed a player, though.  Wonder what the headlines would be if reporters camped out at every major leaguer's locker and asked for their thoughts on that?

Mike Trout has no problem taking money from the Angels, but sign stealing, that's too much.

Lulz, yes. Mike, your organization was culpable in the death of Tyler Skaggs. How does that compare to the Astros banging on a trash can?

This whole deal with Altuve is so infuriating.  He's the one guy who didn't want any help, and he's having to defend something so preposterous that was created by a fanboy and run with by the national media.

He's having to defend it because he was a member of a team that cheated. When you cheat and the sport turns on you, this is what happens.

Most baseball fans, players, and media outside of Houston aren't going to magically believe the account of Correa (an admitted cheater) who says Altuve didn't like it. Trashcans were banged during his at bats. That's not really disputable. I would think if the AL MVP didn't want his teammates doing something during his at bats, his teammates would respect that.

I wish I lived in an idyllic world like you. Altuve did what any baseball player would have done being apart of that locker room. Actually almost any baseball player minus Fiers.

Oddsmakers think Houston Astros batters could be sore this season.

On Monday, sportsbook William Hill set the over/under on number of Astros batters to get plunked this season at 83.5.

In the past five seasons, only nine teams have been hit by pitches more than 83.5 times, but, with the anger over the sign-stealing scandal involving Houston, there is plenty of reason to believe the Astros will be targeted frequently.

Enough opposing players and managers have expressed their displeasure with the Astros that new Houston manager Dusty Baker has publicly urged MLB to protect Astros hitters from intentionally being beaned.

The passionate reaction around baseball regarding the Astros' sign-stealing scandal continues to capture the attention of the sport, with stars like Justin Turner and Mike Trout speaking out against MLB's punishment of Houston on Monday, but Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez said he believes the discourse around baseball was "getting a little bit too much."

Fiers did it too.  That's the bullshit behind his sudden development of regret...2 years after the fact.

Fuck defending any of it.

Just play baseball, and fuck the naysayers.

It actually IS disputable to an extent. The guy who compiled all the data noted that he logged any noise that could conceivably be a trash can, even though he was quite certain at least some weren’t. But he didn’t want to allow his own bias to influence the data, so he just let it stand.

At any rate, there’s a reason there are so few bangs during his at bats.

Quote

TAMPA, Fla. -- Did the Houston Astros' sign-stealing practices continue past the 2017 postseason? New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres has no doubt that it did.

"For sure. If you cheated in 2017 and you won, why don't [you] do [it] the next year, and the next year, too!" Torres said. "I'll use an example: If I play video games with you and we face the TV and I see your controller and I know what is coming and I hit really well and I win, if you tell me we play again, I'll do the same thing because I win. So [the Astros] did in '17 for sure, they did in '18 and they do '19. It's really easy."

Torres was referring to playing the video game "MLB: The Show" against Yankees pitcher Luis Severino, where he admitted to peeking at his teammate's controller to see what pitch was coming.

"When I face like Severino, I saw the controller and I did really well and he didn't know, and the next one I did the same thing and I win!" Torres added.

Well, this clears things up!

Yes the players were given immunity and admitted to cheating in 2017, but decided to lie about cheating in 2018 and 2019.  He could ask his new teammate but I’m betting Gleyber doesn’t have the stones to approach Cole.

I'm as hard on the Astros as anyone and I think the buzzer stuff is just dumb.  It makes no sense that he would be doing something completely different than everyone else.

The thing that makes less sense is that the data shows the he was the main guy who didn't rely on the trash can, but people think he wanted something vibrating on his chest instead???

Don’t get mad, get rich. This is an opportunity to take advantage of the angst.

Sportsbooks are trying to get in on the Astros-hating business. It’s certainly a better business than the Astros-loving business.

Two sportsbooks, William Hill and PointsBet, have now offered new markets to take advantage of the Anti-Astros sentiment — Hit-by-Pitch totals for Houston in the 2020 MLB season. William Hill opened the market on Monday at 83.5 plunkings while PointsBet released its total at 75.5 HBPs.

Another sportsbook, the Superbook in Las Vegas, posted a “First Astros player to be hit by a pitch” prop on Tuesday. The most outspoken and most criticized Astros have the shortest odds. Alex Bregman is the dubious favorite at 7-2 (+350) while Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve are at +400.

DraftKings oddsmaker Johnny Avello told The Action Network he’s studying the hit-by-pitch market, but wants to have a good rapport with baseball and isn’t convinced this is the best bet to offer.

The most popular Astros-related future bet is, unsurprisingly, the Under on their season win total. BetMGM opened the Astros win total at 97.5 and has since dropped the number to 95.5.

“Any bet coming through is typically on the under,” said Christian Cipollini, sports trader at BetMGM. Cipollini said the book has only taken three bets on the over.

FanDuel opened the Astros win total at 98.5 and have moved Houston down to 94.5 wins. FanDuel spokesman Kevin Hennessy says 91.7% of the money is currently on the under at their shop.

William Hill told the Action Network that nearly 90% of the money for Houston’s Over/Under at William Hill is on the under (currently at 94.5), making them the second-most popular under play in their book. Only the Boston Red Sox, who are waiting on the results of MLB’s investigation into their cheating scandal, have attracted more under money this winter (93%).

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred would not comment on whether the Astros investigation is still ongoing, other than to say that the player’s promised immunity was contingent on honesty. That leaves a door open for even more fade value should some of Houston’s players get slapped with big suspensions.

“If players are suspended, that win total could drop by 15 games,” Avello speculated.

Although the Astros have the third best odds to win the World Series — William Hill, for example has them at 17-2 after opening them at 9-2 on Oct. 31 — very little action has been taken at the sportsbooks.

William Hill says 49% of its total World Series handle has been bet on four teams — the Yankees (21%), Dodgers (11%), Angels and White Sox (9% each). The the Astros account for less than 2% of the handle and aren’t in the top half of teams being bet.

Hennessy said Houston only accounts for 0.25% of their total handle in the World Series future market. That is a stark contrast to recent seasons when Houston was among the most popular picks to win the Commissioner’s Trophy.

“In the last month, we have only taken 16 bets on the Astros in the World Series market. Last year, the Astros were consistently a top selection,” Hennessy said.

How the Astros daily soap opera continues is a mystery, but it’s already clear that playing the Astros — for or against — will be a key betting market this season.

I remember someone on this thread who was upset because only a bunch of third-line pitchers were speaking out.  I hope he's getting his fill.

His team was busted for cheating in the same fucking season. The 2017 Yankees broke the rules to get a competitive advantage. Cheaters. Confirmed. I understand the outrage from those who are clean, and I do get that there are different levels to cheating, but for a confirmed cheater to get on his high horse is too fucking much.
