Editor's note: The NFL put out the following statement Saturday afternoon after Colin Kaepernick's workout was moved from the Atlanta Falcons' training facility to a new location.

We are disappointed that Colin did not appear for his workout. He informed us of that decision at 2:30 p.m. today along with the public.

Today's session was designed to give Colin what he has consistently said he wants -- an opportunity to show his football readiness and desire to return to the NFL. Twenty-five (25) clubs were present for the workout, and all 32 clubs, their head coaches, general managers, and other personnel executives would have received video footage of the interview and workout, shot by the Atlanta Falcons video crew. It is important to note the following:

» As stated above, more than three-fourths of NFL clubs were present for today's workout.

» The NFL made considerable effort to work cooperatively with Colin's representatives. We invited his agent to suggest questions for the interview. Yesterday, when Colin's representatives said he wanted to bring his own receivers to the workout, we agreed to the request. In addition, Coach Hue Jackson discussed with Colin's agent what drills would be run at the workout so that Colin would know what would be expected of him.

» Last night, when Nike, with Colin's approval, requested to shoot an ad featuring Colin and mentioning all the NFL teams present at the workout, we agreed to the request.

» On Wednesday, we sent Colin's representatives a standard liability waiver based on the waiver used by National Invitational Camp at all NFL Combines and by NFL clubs when trying out free agent players. At noon today, Colin's representatives sent a completely rewritten and insufficient waiver.

» We heard for the first time last night, around the same time we heard from Nike, that Colin wanted to bring his own video crew. We heard for the first time this afternoon that Colin wanted to open the event to all media.

» We agreed to have Colin's representatives on the field while the workout was being conducted and to allow them to see how it was being recorded. We did so even though we have been clear from the beginning that this is private workout. As is typical with NFL Combines, one video crew was prepared to shoot and distribute video of the interview and workout. We confirmed with Colin's representatives that they would receive both the video that would be sent to all 32 clubs as well as the raw footage from the entire event, which is unprecedented.

The location Colin selected is more than an hour away from Flowery Branch.

We are grateful to the Falcons, who made available the club's first-class facility, along with athletic training, equipment, and communications staff to ensure that today's workout would occur under ideal conditions, to coaches Hue Jackson and Joe Philbin, who were prepared to run a workout that would allow Colin to demonstrate his skill level, and to Jeff Foster and the Combine staff for arranging for other players to participate and for managing the logistics of the workout.

Colin's decision has no effect on his status in the League. He remains an unrestricted free agent eligible to sign with any club.

Can you summarize this, please:

1.  Colin was supposed to have a workout.

2. Colin did not do the workout.

3. Because _________________ (one sentence).

(I'm not following this story closely, so some help is appreciated).

The more I read about it, the more I think Kaepernick made the right call working out at the high school and love streaming it so that he could be 100% sure that unedited video footage made it to the public.

Yup. NFL wanted to push a narrative and got outplayed.

Just look at how this whole thing setup by the nfl. Just look at the details of how it was setup.

Just wanted his commercial

IMO the NFL got fed up by team Kap running their mouths or making threats behind the scenes. It’s the only thing that makes sense. They can’t force a team to give him a tryout or a roster spot, and most teams don’t want the circus that comes with being the first to look at a 32 year old back who hasn’t played in years.

Kap’s team seemed to think he was entitled to a job after he got his settlement.

So the NFL called his bluff, said we will host your tryout and give teams cover. Have a rep from all 32 teams. All Kap did was make excuses to get out of it.

he wanted his own revivers, video crew and to shoot a commercial. NFL said fine. So Kap created another excuse with the waiver the NFL requested he sign. They says it’s the same all players sign when having a tryout, Kap said it was not and then wrote his own.

He also was more concerned with having the most media, not football teams being at the “tryout”.

Kap’s team was only interested in refreshing his victim status/martyr to the public, not playing football.

Thanks for addressing the question.

So if every owner said, "no, he sucks" Kap wanted to be able to prove that wasn't the case?  And the method of doing this was by using a live stream?  Sounds smart.

Unless you don't like him, and then your response is "commercial."  Wouldn't the better commercial be that he came back to the NFL and showed them wrong?  Why would he stop at just a workout commercial?

To some of you guys he's like that Iranian wrestler dude everyone was supposed to hate.  That was his role: to be hated.

Maybe the NFL XFL owners should collude and agree that one team HAS to take him.  Great for ratings, eh?

Fixed it for actually being possible.

Wasn’t the whole idea to show you are ready to play?  Massive media presence or not, he had a tryout in front of all 32 teams. What other player do you recall EVER getting this kind of special treatment?  If he impressed one of them he get a second tryout and possibly make a team. If the team wanted his workout in private, would that be unacceptable?

If he was truly interested in playing he would have jumped at the chance, instead he decided to make the situation about his victim hood instead of football.

“They are still running”. Yeah, quoting your new commercial while explaining why you didn’t go to the tryout seems legit. Kap was only interested in creating a media event to show off his personal injustice. He was able to get some publicity photos in his Kunta Kinte T Shirt highlighting the comparison to his million dollar paycheck and slave chains.

The stop running from me part made me laugh. It's like going to an interview and telling the interviewer off, followed by they should hire you.

The nfl refused to let him have his own film crew at his own workout.

They had the entire Falcons film crew ready to shoot the whole thing and then offered him all of the raw footage (unusual) of the practice session as well. They allowed his Nike Film crew in to shoot a commercial as well.

How does filming his own workout instead of the Falcons help him get a job playing football. Does he believe his home grown footage of the event 32 teams have representatives at will be more compelling than what they are seeing with their own eyes?

Or did he want movie/practice/ commercial material for his career playing the victim with the NFL as his oppressor?

He’s simply a shameless self promoter who needs people to believer  he is a victim to further his brand. He saw just how irrelevant he had become this season.

If this was such an issue, what has been stopping him from filming his own tryouts weekly and sending them out?  Who has been stopping him from doing this?

Might be because no one cares unless the NFL name is attached to bash and make it a story.

I thought he actually did two days ago.

What exactly is his angle here?

The angle is to keep it rolling. I actually wish an NFL team would take a shot on him. Either he will have the goods and then bully for him or he will once and for all proven to be a washed up has-been and this sideshow can finally come to an end.

Nobody likely to bite that bullet though so we will continue in the spin cycle.

I heard a whisper that this tryout was a part of the settlement.

The NFL guaranteed a legit tryout, and from the looks of it they went above and beyond trying to prove a lack of bias - something that would hold up in court.
25 teams sent reps to watch ONE MAN throw a ball. Found a good location, some coaches to help out, some good guys to throw to, a good film crew with promises to distribute the raw footage to every team. The NFL held up their end.

All Kaepernick needed to do was show up and ball. But the night before he starts quibbling over details, ends of making some last minute changes, and goes to a different venue with his own dudes.

And even then some NFL reps made it over to watch him, lol.

At this point it should be clear Kaepernick isn't interested in playing football. Nike pays him more for less work anyway. This dude is washed up making money off of victimhood and activism. My bet is that even if he's offered a contract, he'll haggle every detail and make it all public and - even if he plays a few games - won't play an entire season anywhere at any level.

His game was declining and it’s been three plus years of PR stunts to make himself the martyr and victim. If playing football was the most important thing to him, he could have stopped the kneeling and stuck to interviews, social media, and charitable donations to bring attention to his cause while remaining relevant as an NFL QB. He has intentionally made himself such a lightning rod and media circus that the juice (mediocre QB play? Best case he’s above average) isn’t worth the squeeze (distraction he brings to a team to derail a season and coach’s/GM’s future).

Not sure the approach should be to attack the NFL and it’s owners while asking them for a job. It’s a no win situation for a team that signs him.

He doesn't really want a job.  He wants to increase his exposure as a  woke social justice warrior victim.

Red meat for the enablers.

Not one mention of football in his post workout interview.  Nothing about the game.  Just agenda.

Which white man?  The white mother that gave birth to him?  Or the white couple that adopted him and raised him, and decided to adopt him after losing two previous biological children to birth defects?  Or his white brother and sister that he was raised with?  Did those folks keep him down?  Just would like to be clear. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Kaepernick
