I spotted the Epicenter move just before the home stretch when he was 5th or 6th…got up and pointed him out to my wife on the TV and was tracking an literally yelled “what the fuck????” when Fisrt Strike zoomed by.

The “Most Exciting Two Minutes” indeed.

Rich Strike was fucking moving and looked like he could have gone another mile  like that.

He wanted to kick the shit out of that escort horse, too.  The Rick Vaughn of horses.

This sport has fucked themselves. I just can’t enjoy/ believe this as much as I want to and as incredible and outcome this is…at least not until some clean tests come back.

just having a hard time believing a horse not in the race until 35 hours ago wins at the fastest pace in history.

and horse wasn’t doing anything to dissuade folks like me from those thoughts, looking hopped up on coke for 30 minutes after the race.

The view from above is incredible. Rich Strike was way in the rear and made his move at the head of the stretch and made up incredible ground. Super fast horse and skillful jockey craft. Anyone that thinks jockeys are remarkable athletes just needs to watch that last quarter. I can’t imagine how terrifying that could be.

Bought for $30k in a claiming race; just got the paddock slot Friday am. It’ll be a movie.

Helluva finish. Whoever made the Monarchos reference was spot-on, almost an identical rocket shot.

That said, my only concern with Epicenter was temptation to run the race he wanted as opposed to the one he needed.

He’s very gifted with stalking/pouncing but that shit backfires when you’re solely locked in on 2-3 horses upfront without regard for the overall tempo that can lead to those late miracle charges.

Epi had a wide open lane to control the race from the rail at the very outset, but Rosario let him glide on belief he could recover…which is the exact same way he got bitten at Lecomte.

Epicenter is a badass and I hate to see him get burned after charging so courageously to win the thing…but what can you do.

Also as mentioned above, if Rich Strike pops hot then yes the sport should be absolutely fucking ashamed and I don’t know if it’s gonna be salvageable this time.

I don't gamble, so I don't pay a lot of attention to horses, but I try to watch the triple crown races every year.

That might have been the greatest ride I've seen.  Holy shit, just a masterful job of directing the fastest horse through a bunch of traffic at the end.  That last twist to the outside -- GET OUT OF MY WAY -- was awesome.  The announcer didn't even realize what was happening until Rich Strike almost had the lead.

The $1 superfecta paid $321K. An even better investment than the owners $30K that the owner of Rich Strike spent on him for less than a year ago.

Someone up at Running Aces, the harness track and card room up in Forest Lake, has a winning ticket for this superfecta, they put it on their FB page. Trying to share the link...

I just can't get over it, never in my life... the broadcast pretty much glossed over the horse, only mentioning last minute scratch, long shot. When every horse faded back, he took off, his jocky was flawless in maneuvering the horse around slower traffic.  None of these guys had ever been in anything remotely close to this stage. That jockey raced like it was his 20th derby, not his first. That Horse had won once, at Churchill,  with that jockey.... they once sat at 24, but one scratch after another and boom, 20. That would have been a badass race if that was the favorite coming from that far back. But instead it was a claim horse.

Next two races are going to be interesting, no way anyone is giving them an open lane like today. The fucking seas parted today.

And to be honest, that jaw-dropping finish was the Belmont.  He "only" finished the Derby by about 2 lengths and didn't get the lead until the homestretch.  Nevertheless, you should watch that Belmont though, my god it was amazing.

Also, correction of mine from above... Rich Strike had one of the fastest half-Derby's ever, but as one might expect, the pace slowed a good bit and his time was somewhere around 45th or so for Derby history.  Not shoddy, but not an historic time.  Nevertheless, the way he put on the gas in the last quarter was about the most exciting thing I've seen (Monarchos of course did the same in '01, but he was a decent 6-1 going in.)  This - this was another galaxy - longest shot since 1913, which in many ways is almost another world.  That's why I think it might be #1 on my list, Secretariat's 1973 Belmont up there, too.
