His recruited the best defense players to texas in a decade he should be brought back as an analyst

If you are not being sarcastic, where did they go? How come the D two deep roster looks like it does? I'm really just trying to figure this out.

His first class had a whopping 4 “productive” defensive players that finished out at least 3 years at Texas. Poona Ford was a gem, Chris Nelson was okay, and Jason Hall and John Bonney mattered in that they had mass and took up space on a football field for a while. The rest of the defensive guys in this class were outright busts, including Roberson and Freeman at the top. That’s 2014.

His 2015 defensive class was highly productive from a “games started” perspective but also highlights the tenuous nature of just valuing signings because they appeared regularly on the field. Malik Jefferson played well and meant a lot to the program but never matched the hype. Hilton Hill and Kris Boyd certainly didn’t reach their potential but we would have murdered someone to have either guy this year. The same is true for Devante Davis. Charles Omenihu is actually an example of positive development into an NFL quality player. Deshon Elliott left too early. PJ Locke stayed too long. Anthony Wheeler and Breckyn Hager certainly put up a lot of starts and, well, that’s just not a good thing.  Cameron Townsend and Quincy Vasser never amounted to anything more than names on a roster. I hope they graduated and are making something of themselves in the business world. Finally, there’s Cecil Cherry. LOL.

2016 is cringeworthy. That cake is unleavened and unsweetened, which makes it perfect for Tom Herman to serve up the fan base at breakfast, so thanks Chuckles. Brandon Jones was the 5 star in this class that we didn’t develop. Chris Brown, Malcolm Roach and Jeffrey McCullough have all contributed and had moments of terrific play and then moments of pure boobery. Roach specifically has had more critical penalties as an ostensible SR leader than any player since Robert Killebrew. Erick Fowler was a 5 star flameout of epic proportions. The great DL haul never materialized into a meaningful start across the entire spectrum of the 6 guys we signed - Jordan Elliott wound being productive for Brick Haley at Mizzou, and then Andrew Fitzgerald (right), Christmas-Giles (fuck), Wilbon (meh), Chris Daniels (bleh), and Marcel Southall (wet fart noise) give Texas the oooooollll’6er.  A 6 pack of nothing but empty calories and shame. Eric Cuffee couldn’t beat out Boyce,  if that tells you anything. Donovan Duvernay negatively recruited visitors during Herman’s first season and otherwise has served the purpose of being Devin Duvernay’s brother. Demarco Boyd did the same thing for us with Kris Boyd before proving himself a piece of shit by beating some kid into a body cast because he had the temerity to get into a fender bender accident with UT football players. So 4 okay to decent contributors out of 14 signed. All in all, this class’s lack of development and attrition has played a significant role in the depth chart being a mess on the D side.

I really thought Christmas-Giles was going to be special.  Same with Devante Davis.  Remember thinking that Donovan was the Duvernay with more upside. at one point.

Yeah I really thought Christmas Giles was going to be a stud.. quick first step.. Also wonder how Stephen Taylor turned out at South Carolina.. he was gonna come here but Daniels and Southall commitments had him looking elsewhere

Thanks, that's the info I was looking for. i remember being stoked about getting Christmas-Giles, but he doesn't even appear to be the biggest flameout on that list.

To each his own, just seemed like he was discovering himself more than becoming a football player. Hope he took his education more seriously and hope it pays off for him in life.

Yeah, that was..umm..odd to say the least. I'd guess he's the first Longhorns player to do that while on the 40?

Anyway, this thread simply reminds me to take recruit ranking and hype with a huge pinch of salt, possibly a 5 lb bag of the pink Himalayan stuff.

2015: He decided to take 5 LBs and 1 DL.

2016: Realizing he had no DL, he took 7 of them - 4 would transfer.  He only took 3 DBs.

2017: No LBs and no safeties.

TL;DR  He brought in talent, but had no idea how to manage his roster.

Is he now going to be called Ramadan Giles?
