Utes should've finished the game with 3 points. Their TD was not a catch and should've been reviewed but it was already a blowout so nobody cared.

Not only was that not a catch, but it also occurred after the refs gifted them a free 4th down conversion on the bullshit helmet penalty.

this.  I am getting tired of plays not being reviewed for us.  everyone complains that TH should take a TO.  He shouldn't have to.  that play needed to be reviewed from the jump. potentially game changing and ESPECIALLY after that BS helmet foul gave them the ball.

I love that everyone thought Utah was just going to kick our ass with their great defense. Instead it was the Texas defense that did the ass kicking. I know we’re all still raw from the disappointment of this season but man we really needed yesterday. That’s some much needed momentum going into next season.

my guess is he isn't fast enough to blitz from 10 yards off the ball or cover  slot 30 yards down the field.

Haha! But seriously speaks to Orlando’s inability or just outright refusal to use the players you have and put them in the best position to make plays and use their ability

Yeah, unfortunately we rarely face these more traditional offenses in the B12.

what TH found out this year is that there is some damn good coaching in the B12 and he thought he could get away with his brain and a bunch of G5/strip club buddies.

I think Klieman is going to be a problem.  I could see him and Campbell getting plucked by some Big 10 teams in the next 2 or 3 years.

we really need Herman to be all over the refs at OU.  they got called for OL holding 5 times against LSU. that never happens with B12 refs.

we are about at late Mack levels so hopefully it can be up from here.

The call was annoying, but correct to the rules.

maybe it depends on the actual wording.  he never got involved in the play after his helmet came off.  IMO, If they are going to say a player has to stop in place and take himself out of the play then that penalty needs to be reviewable to see what caused the helmet to come off.  the OL caused the "safety issue" to occur.  he is the one that should be penalized.

I don't disagree that there are problems with the rule.  I'm just saying it was correctly applied.

He should have known from his tenure at ISU, although the coaching has stepped up a bit since then.

I kind of think that his tenure at tOSU created a lot of this arrogance.

Watching Iowa St. vs Notre Dame I wondered how committed Campbell is to building Iowa St. vs realizing the talent ceiling he'll have to live with for doing so. The difference in talent on the field was stark. Same for Harsin at Boise St. facing Washington in Petersen's swan song performance.

Great point... Not sure that either should stay at Iowa State of Boise State much longer...

good point though I think it was a lot more the FSU and OU wins at UH.  of course, he conveniently forgot SMU and UConn.

This.  Rule needs to be amended to penalize the player only if he initiates contact after his helmet comes off.

agree it could have been reviewed but the video is fuzzy.  he might have come over the top of him and hit with more shoulder.  Im against the targeting rule as they define it today.  to me it was put in for the main purpose of targeting receivers.  It needs to be clear and obvious that the defender lead with his head directly into the head of the opponent and the opponents late movement doesn't cause it.

I also don't think a shoulder pad to the head on a runner(not a receiver) should be called.

Edit: I also think you should have one freebie per team.  first one is a 15 yard penalty and a second one is 15 yard penalty and ejection.

it would be nice if refs would use common sense.  that guy knew exactly what throwing that flag meant. Coburn did not affect the play in any way after his helmet came off.

looking at the video upthread, Utah's formations usually had only 1 or 2 WRs -- very old school so Texas was putting 7 or 8 defenders in the box allowing for physical domination.  Spreads with 3-5 WRs are a different animal.

This isn't true.  Their base offense is a 1-1.  1 RB, 1 TE usually flexed or slotted and 3 WRs.  Now, sometimes they'd go 1-2 with 2 TEs, usually flexed off the line.  They have a good TE group so they would use them in multiple groupings and as sort of big WRs too in the slot.  They rarely had 1 WR out there unless speciality play.

I think at that point he’s a runner, not a defenseless player. I think they also need to call it both ways...how many times do you see runners lower their crown to initiate contact?

Ha.  everyone needs to be coached to run like Eric Dickerson and practice bearhug tackling.

he was within 2 yards of the tackle and pushed a Ute over the pile, he did exackly what the rule says you can't do.

Truly impressed with Cort Jaquess tonight. The kid had 5 tackles and 1 solo. Was a walk-on that got on scholarship this year. And played some special teams but mostly was a scout teamer. That kid fucking balled out and showed great tackling skills.

I actually came here to post this. He looked really good last night.

No launch or other indicator, no defenseless player, no contact with crown.

This is about as far from targeting as possible.

he did initiate contact, it's like no one here owns a DVR.

A rule that turn 11v11 into 11v10 doesn’t work for me. Just make it so if anyone’s helmet comes off during the play it gets blown dead, like they do when the ball carrier loses his helmet. Then allow replay to look at why the helmet came off and assess penalties as needed.

nope.  Watch the video here, helmet taken off at 24:12, play over at 24:16.  Coburn runs toward the play, but does not initiate any contact unless you want to count the little shove that occurred after the play was over.

i didn't see 3 WRs much, mostly 1 and 2 wides.

Had to miss most of the game.  From what little I saw the defense looked really solid.

What were the main differences?  Looked like we stopped doing delayed blitzes and instead put a lot of pressure on the qb

We played single-high most the game.  That itself pretty much changes everything from two-high.

It took him getting benched again before he started playing well. At the beginning of the game he looked terrible. He only seems to play well when his pissed off. The team captains need to make a habit of ensuring he’s angry before each game.

DKR would agree...

Local Utah fan here. The UT fans were by far the most gracious and welcoming fan base I’ve ever come across. I got lost on the river walk multiple times and was escorted to safety and the stadium by Texas fans.  They offered me food, drinks and after the game were polite and wished us safe travels.  Even though we ran out of time for the comeback, can’t wait to come back to Texas to visit more longhorns.

You should start a thread about your experience

Thanks for posting.  That's how I remembered it.  He was no where near contact in the time his helmet is off although he certainly could have been if the play lasted a couple of more seconds.

I ask, what's the difference between what he did and the other 99.8% of the time a guy loses his helmet and ends up not getting called for a penalty?  Nothing.  I guess you're supposed the lay on the ground and shield your head of wave your hand to signify you give up, but it never happens.  Guys who lose their helmet ALWAY continue is some fashion, pushing, moving to the ball, running.  I don't disagree with the intent of the rule, just that he did nothing to warrant a penalty for something that happens several times per game but doesn't get called.

Anyway, great way to end a disappointing season.  Worked out great, being matched up against a much higher ranked team and dominating.  Hopefully gives guys who are considering the portal and guys not yet signed a glimpse of what the program can be under better leadership/coaching.  So happy to see the defense and especially the DL kill it last night.  I am more than ready to see Texas play fucking defense again.

You forgot to add how you intend to encourage the enchubbettes to apply to aggy for their superior collegiate matriculation.
