Someone said it very succinctly up thread or in the CV thread:  Trump is not focused on national disaster affecting us.  He is focused on a reelection disaster affecting him.

Trump, Fox , OANN and his propaganda machine are laying the groundwork to loosen things up next week.  It is going to take corporate America and the state and local governments to say "No."  Good luck.

Governments are already saying it--schools are out, universities are out, agencies are teleworking and showing that work can be done remotely. The total infected increasing are going to make them look foolish if they even try and since people still have to be elected, why would politicians create their own self destruct ads?    Vote for me--I'll get you to work without healthcare, even when you're potentially terminally ill and a threat to your families.

My only hope is that this was a trial balloon today by the Trump team.  They'll get a massive backlash from the Republican governors and others in the party, then he'll show up tomorrow or Wednesday saying it was never his idea to loosen things up and we were misconstruing his words.  One can hope.

This, it's easier for Trump to sweep away a million plus deaths than for the local mayor or judge to minimize 100 deaths locally that could have been prevented.  They are smart enough to see this.  I think there will be more than enough to defy trump when the time comes.

Reagan's courting of the "religious" right.

This. He gave the religious nuts a voice. Palin was a symptom of that. McCain wanted Democrat Joe Lieberman as his running mate but if you want to win as a Republican then you've got to appeal to the evangelicals. Thats how we got Palin. That's how we got Pence. That's also how we got George W. Bush. And if you said Palin then you must have slept through his shitshow of a presidency.

Nixon’s “Southern Strategy”.

It’s almost like the modern GOP has ALWAYS been a haven for racist stupid dickfaces!

That was a big turning point too. And laid the groundwork for the GOP becoming the party of the Confederates. Nixon was a corrupt, paranoid, megalomaniacal demagogue. But at least he still respected science and education and ran a secular administration. Part of what has hurt the GOP is all the people who thought Nixon got a raw deal, people like Dick Cheney. People who want to continue to expand presidential powers (as long as it's a Republican president).

I still give the award to the "Reagan Revolution." That's when they abandoned science and education in favor of magical thought. They could've recovered from Nixon. They didn't. And once they brought the religious nuts in it was all over.

Interesting, so where are we supposed to get the masks?

Same place where everyone gets tested as soon as they get off the plane, or maybe aboard one of those ships they're bringing to a port near you.  Or just go and get tested at one of the hospitals and centers that are so prevalent and available to every American.

I find it shocking that olds like Trump, Patrick, et al don't see the threat to their own health.

Well they don't have to worry about an overwhelmed health care system not being able to care for them or put them on a vent, like the rest of us do.

They know that no matter what, they will be fine. They will be taken care of medically if it happens to them, they will be taken care of financially after it goes to shit. The only thing they have to do is keep the grift going.

No. If he had any capacity to do that, they never would have followed him in the first place. You've gotta brainwash them from birth to get them to even pretend to like Jesus's message one day each week.

What you have to remember is that people wanted to be called African-American, gay people were afforded equal protection under the law, brown people walked around speaking different, and women complained about stuff.

Damn, that may be the greatest gif ever. How quick witted is the drummer? Good work, kid.

The smallpox blankets above: just pure evil. Or, as Stephen Miller puts it, “The feel good story of the winter!”

I caught a bit of Trump’s briefing today, and he echoed the “let’s not bash Asian Americans” concept he trial ballooned in a tweet. OK, we won’t do what you started and fueled. And I wonder what finally happened to get him to change his tune?

You’re talking about people who’ve never faced any consequences in their entire lives. Why would they suddenly expect that to change?

Come on man.  Trump barebacks pornstars and stares right into a solar eclipse.  He literally thinks exercise is bad for you.  And you’re shocked?  Pass some of that shit over this way.

If you told me 15 years ago that I would vote straight D in the 2016 election, I would have asked you what year do I suffer my traumatic brain injury.

But alas...

I will go back to the Republican Party if and when they exterminate every last Tea Party / Palinite / Trumpkin anti-intellectual from their rolls.

The introduction of Sarah Palin gave me grave concern about the future of the party. The introduction of DJT confirmed it.

I was a pretty solid Republican until Sarah Palin came along. It was the reason I didn't vote for McCain.

And they use old people's medicine for fuel.

What we need is a national discussion about robot insurance.  For when the metal ones come for you.  And they will.

There is absolutely going to be a resurgence of Central American hordes in October, this time all coming with COVID-19, intent on infecting any Texans that survive Dotard and DP's initial purge.  BE AFRAID!

This right here.  If Vegas would let me gamble on a caravan coming to invade us from the south occurring in October/November I would bet everything I own on it.

I would say "Darwin smiles" but being in their 60s, they are past reproductive age, and are already effectively out of the gene pool.

I would donate a month's salary to the reporter who had the sack to ask DoTArd if he takes responsibility for their deaths.

It’s survival of the species. Homo Sapiens are pack animals. If the pack benefits from reckless behavior of the elderly, then the packs with reckless elderly could have their progeny thrive. You’d see traits of that pack carried on.

You're smarter than that.  They'll be on their deathbeds calling it a Dem hoax.

I see a LOT of old people.  And I’ve never heard more say ‘they kind of dropped the ball on this one huh?’

This was the first time I saw cracks.  Not saying it means much but it is the first time any critique of Trump or his admin by more than 1-2 olds I deal with.

Under normal circumstance, you may be correct.  The pack might benefit-- two less idiots sucking up medicare.

Under current circumstance, maybe not-- two hospital beds in a time of need being taken up by two imbeciles.

Imagine you are a doctor, currently being overwhelmed with sick patients who are covid positive through no fault of their own, and you have to spend a significant portion of your time treating these two magats. Who were probably doing just fine until dOtARd opened his fat orange mouth.

I’m curious about your physician brethren. I work with hundreds here in Texas, and lounges are still tuned to Fox News. They bitch about stupid, non-compliant poors dragging down the system, and the government is fucking everyone on reimbursements, thanks Obama! Go, Cheeto!

I presume Chicagoland may be a bit more reasoned, but I’m guessing there are still colleagues of yours who lean red. Assuming my theory is correct, are you seeing any cracks there?
