Donald Trump 2020

I think I’d be making plans to move if I had any way to make money somewhere else. Not just because of trump but it has a lot to do with it.

Trump is a symptom. This is the disease:

What we’re fighting against is these long-term trends in which being selfish, being tribal, being divided, and seeing others as an enemy — that has become a stronger impulse in American life,” Obama said.

These are the American ideals. And we are committed to them - at least, enough of us are that they will continue to be the giant turd that makes the punch bowl undrinkable.

Any place that can be accurately described as quoted is a shitty place. If we weren’t so deeply rooted here, and if my livelihood wasn’t so tied to the American legal system, we’d have been looking to move some time ago. And we expect it likely that one or more of our kids will make their lives somewhere else (maybe Germany or Canada), we’ve at least discussed the goal of living half the year there in our retirement.

Things aren’t going to get better here. They’ll only continue to get worse.

As an elec engineer I’m more or less in the same boat, but I did look at some random job postings in the UK and found that salaries were 50-60% of what I’m making now. Maybe I need to look at other places.

and significantly worse starting in about 6 months after Trump is re-elected in a sham and getting 5+ million fewer (actual) votes.  the corruption, gross ineptitude, criminality and cronyism we are seeing now will pale in comparison.

So he doesn’t want people to vote. Got it.

I begin to think that I want the unlikely to happen: Trump tries to hold office after losing the election.

How tame are we? Would we let him stay in power with the Senate backing him up about the election pending his Supreme Court making a ruling? Would we abide by a ruling that says the election must be held again under martial law to protect polling with Trump remaining in power until it's resolved?

How tame are we in defending the values and very existence of the republic as we have always known it?

Will the elected Dems protest and dither?

Would there be a massive turn out of anti-Trumpers to shut down the nation until he goes?

How would the Guard, the Army, the Secret Service, Federal Marshalls, and local police act?

If deposed GOP governors join Trump in a general outcry against an alleged sham election of Dems, what next?

If the Dems protest in the streets, will we see these armed GOP hooligans in their Balaclavas and combat boots waving their assault rifles around?

What would I do? Would I load my mother's .38 and join the march for as far as these shitty knees will carry me? Will I post here and on facebook and feel like I've done my bit.

Maybe the country needs a full on gut check. We're failing miserably at the present gut check. How far does it have to go before public outcry even appears?

I have a feeling we're counting on women to take up the banner. I hope I have the guts to follow if they do.

Thank you President Trump, for inventing the Grocery Store.  We'd shop at them with less fear were it not for your gross incompetence.

Problem solved, no?? I mean, they still have to have all of that meat and dairy processed, which is currently unable to be processed due to some kind of virus. But you know, it’s all fixed now.

I was listening to someone on NPR discuss this about 6 months ago.  As they guy put it, "There is no Praetorian Guard in the U.S."  He'll have to leave or face a march on Washington.

i definitely want this.  in fact, i think it's probable, from a betting perspective.

but how?  does he physically stay in the white house, or is it some smaller group of his administration that he tries to rule by twitter?  i think the most probable outcome is that he physically stays in the white house (he'll be there from early nov until mid jan anyway) and tries to involve lawyers, the supreme court, etc to investigate the "fake" election that he lost.  this is why it's so important that the election is a blowout.  anything close will trigger his supporters.  but they'll disappear real quick if he calls foul on a 100+ pt ec loss.

but what if he doesn't physically leave?

without knowing jurisdiction or protocol, this smells like federal marshals.  if they come to the residence, who stops them from forcibly removing a former president?  the secret service?  not likely.  the head of the secret service doesn't work for him, and their whole thing is being non-partisan.  they would surely stand down if it came to that.

and his tough guy supporters down in sec-sec-sec country would absolutely want it to come to that.  and they'd threaten to show up on the lawn with their long guns to help him hold down the fort.  but none of that will actually happen.  he'll be all talk for 2 months, then slowly slither away.  same with his hardline supporters.  they'll bark on twitter, along with dear leader, then they'll quiet down.

when biden gets sworn in on jan 20th, trump's orders no longer have any authority.  he can't do anything but leave.  and as much as i hope he locks himself in a broom closet, i think it's much more likely he skulks back to florida and continues to pout via twitter, until he inevitably crosses the line, and they ban his account.  then more lawsuits that he can't pay for.  it'll go on for a year or two, and then he'll start in on trump tv (oann) while grooming don jr or ivanka for 2024.

or, god willing, he tries to run again.

It's all the same shit.  He's a fucking bozo of the highest order.  So what he thinks is just as stupid as what he says.  It's actually the only thing that makes sense about the dumbfuck.

Oh we know he’s going to bitch and whine and throw around the words rigged, scam, treason, blah blah blah. I think he’ll leave, but he won’t participate in any of the traditions between POTUS and POTUS-elect. No formal meeting. No assisting of the Biden transition team. He’ll be completely absent from Inauguration Day and will have left still yelling about scams and hoaxes on the White House lawn as he heads to marine one to take him to fly to either mar a lago or Moscow. I bet it’s St. Petersburg.

As a drafter/designer, yes.  But wouldn't that whole licensure thing be a bit of a problem?

I guess much of architecture is such that only "the boss" seals anything?

It is a bit of a conundrum.  Secret Service is Treasury, so Mooch.  Marshals are Justice, so Barr.  Pretty much all LEO are executive agencies with heads that owe their position to Trump.  I think the state entities would be without jurisdiction to act on federal property.

Yeah, I think the issue gets pressed if Biden becomes Commander In Chief.  Then he can order the military or any/all of the various law enforcement agencies to evict or arrest him.

Oh, and "Great news for all!" that his "leadership" has taken the US to a point where it needs "Food Lines & Kitchens".  Bask in the "Great news for all!", these guys:

What could possibly be offered from this administration to assist the Biden transition team?  If I were Biden, I would welcome Trump skulking away in the night with no ceremony - it would give more time to thoroughly disinfect the White House before moving in.

Shit, i never really gave much thought to Trump running again in 2024 after he loses this time around.  Statistically speaking, he'll be dead; but honestly...if he's not...there's a damn good chance he runs again for POTUS.  I know Rex Kramer and lot of folks on here will be a rudderless ship for four years so stands to reason he jumps back in the race.

I'm trying to think of a more important election and can't.  First one (Washington)?  Civil War (Lincoln)?

Either we become America again or it's late Roman Empire/Third Reich for us.

Washington and Lincoln are the greatest presidents we have ever had.

But neither one took part in a more important election, because their opponent in those elections was not an absolute narcissist moronic disgrace such as the likes of donald j trump.

If trump somehow steals yet another term, America is done and over with. It will be all over ‘cept the cryin. There is absolutely no doubt about that fact.

So this election this fall in the year 2020 is kind of important.

Twice this week I had colleagues/clients ask me on a Zoom call - what is wrong with America? Now that question comes at me maybe once a week already, but now it is backed up with videos, data and the constant bleed of a complete dolt blabbering on about nothing. I ask them what answer they want? the 10 thousand foot answer, the 1 thousand foot answer, or the answer? 1) no conflict for too long. no concept of public sacrifice/good, 2) the ideals of capitalism are overheated, 3) the divide is more important than the issue and people are increasingly and artificially fighting instead of cooperating.

hey, pick one. its all the same same

Yes, Trump is the symptom.

we left in early 2019. I wanted to seriously leave the US starting in 2010. I was entering adulthood and a profession around then and these issues became very clear to me. We flirted with Uruguay and other parts of SA but never had the right structure in place. Now I am overseas and of course its a mixed bag - some good, some bad, some ugly. I am happy I am here but I miss the shit out of my friends and family. This pandemic is scary in that I can't see a time when I will see my parents again. And they aren't spring chickens.

On the positive side - one can hope the pandemic will erase out 10% - 20% of the current toxic American individualism. Maybe the kids or teens now will have experiences from this that will make them appreciate some concepts of teamwork and public good.

Nukes not welcome.  Hang in there my man.
