People see he literally wants them to risk their lives to come to his stupid rallies and they’re like nah. The veto proof majority in the senate on the defense bill is the beginning of the end of his presidency. The rats are fleeing the SS Trump

Yep and people could debate endlessly about whether leadership is effective or this move or the other move was the right move.

But they seem to know pretty well when there's no leadership at all.

i think most people can agree that the coronavirus "is not trump's fault".  he didn't invent it.  he didn't import it.  but the "this isn't my fault" defense is a lot more palatable when you've done everything you can to protect your citizens.  or at the very least seemed sympathetic about the havoc it's caused.

nah, i'll just complain in the bunker and play golf and blame the media and democrat governors.

Which raises an interesting point.  The bill requires, apparently, the change of names, but doesn't actually accomplish it.

Which means someone is going to have to put forward the bills that actually change the names.  And then that bill is going to be assigned to Inhofe's committee, which is probably going to bury it, at least until committee assignments change.

@Bateshorn may be able to tell us how that's going to work.

Well, fuck, now I gotta go read the language,  now I’m doing work for you fools.  My retainer is $20k a month (it’s not, I work for a non profit, I got shit ass bosses the same as you.)

I’ll see if I can flip open my lap top and surf the NDAA this weekend.

Like many of us, my parents turned from reasonable, thoughtful, caring, educated people to getting their opinions from Tucker. They didn’t go full cult and start flying Trump flags, but they had a Trump sign during election time and started ranting about all the socialists. It was surprising at the time, but Fox is insidious.

My family is somewhat scattered across the country, so my parents haven’t played with their grandchildren in about 6 months. Visits were canceled due to our new world. It sucks for everyone.

They’ve essentially been locked in their house and yard. They stopped going to church since no one will wear a mask because America. Unwelcome at church due to Christian hospitality. Unwillingness to be mildly inconvenienced for our brothers has become a Christian identity.

My dad emailed me recently expressing some disdain for his worthless R governor failing to allow them some sort of outside life with universal mask wearing. No widespread mask usage means endless lockdown. I commiserated complaining about my even worse R governor and of course the absence of national leadership.

They’re stuck waiting on a vaccine since that’s our last hope.

A mentor of mine that my parents knew well died of it. That really opened their eyes. My dad knew my mentor’s dad well when I was younger. Seeing your friend lose his son can shake you. Parents shouldn’t have to bury their children.

This stuff has stolen what should have been a wonderful time from my parents and it’s getting hard to ignore. Most of the issues we get worked up over are theoretical to most of us, even the ones that really deeply matter. This isn’t theoretical and it’s damaged all of us.

I don’t know how they plan to vote this fall, but I suspect that losing time with their grandchildren, losing their church community, losing their golden years, and seeing so much suffering might make that old Trump sign look pretty unappealing.

Yeah, but imagine the lawless hellscape if Biden gets elected! Haven't you seen the commercials?

Crazy eh?

Everyone and anyone not polluted with this idiotic culture war could have told you this was the case. That this is what would happen if he and his "team of yes minstels" actually had to lead.

Every day we aren't nuked is a fucking blessing. Its hahaha i am funny hahaha no, serious happy to still be alive today.

A team of yes men parading around in complete and utter isolation from the truth is ALARMING. flat out scary as shit.

It was scary November 2016 and is every fucking day since.

Ya'll homies be good now. I made it to Saturday and so can you.

I think the other thing is that his failed attempts to blame the Democrat Party and the lamestream media and his various lies about the pandemic have actually damaged his credibility among a fair number who had previously gone along with these fables.  They're like "oh shit, maybe it wasn't the do nothing democrats and media, maybe he's been completely full of shit about everything all along."
I'll believe it when I see it. I see way too many Trump flags in my travels. No one likes to admit they fucked up. They double down.

I know of one Trump supporter that turned on him due to Covid. They are not going to vote for Biden but said they will just sit out of the election.
The pandemic has been a beating for everyone and most people realize that there is a big problem with our response and that Facui isn't the cause for our poor response plan.
Bullshit
They will get a good dose of propaganda and vote against socialism.

Exactamundo.
The American people may be dumb, hell I am sometimes, but we’re not that dumb.
Even the dumbest here is likely smarter than 80% of the gen pop. We dumb. Trump just needs to give away 2 cases of White Claw to each house and he's a lock in November.
I shouldn't have said that/

Eh, I am not talking about the die-hards but the Republicans who just vote out of habit. Trim off some of the straight ticket voters and he is done.

True independent voters are unicorns, and that’s more the case every day that passes.
People who vote 90% for one party aren’t “independent.” They’re Dems/Republican who occasionally cross over.

Well, prompted by Pig, I rooted around and it appears that base naming is the responsibility of an Assistant Secretary of the Army.

What I don't know is whether congress can order a major minion in an executive department to do anything.  That would go for both the NDAA as well as Inhofe and the Armed Services Comittee.

As I’ve said a few times on this board, my Dad is one of the biggest trump supporters around. He’s a Ron Paul type Republican who actually hates the Texas Republican Party like Abbot and Perry, but he loves him some trump. Go figure.

So when COVID hit he’s sheltered in place since then. He is also adamant that my mom, who is extremely sociable, not risk herself by seeing much of anyone, unless its walking outdoors. It’s because he loves her so much that he will not let her incur any risk on it, which I believe he believes in. Deep down I now he knows the risks of the virus, especially since they are approaching their 80s.

I haven’t asked him if his views on trump have changed yet because I am frankly worried about what his answer will be. He’s gotten old and doesn’t always think straight. Before all this happened he was the type that would deny trump said something because CNN doctored the video. I will eventually. For now I’m just glad he’s taking this thing seriously.

I’ve thought about how to point out what’s been stolen from us - very precious family time - without being cruel. Maybe with real leadership we still might not have been able to visit this summer, but it sure would have improved the odds.

At some point prior to November, I think it will be good to explicitly point out the obvious,  but it’s delicate due to the personal nature of having their life shut down.  The lonely and painful death of this thing is a pretty terrifying prospect.

That's who I'm talking about. The entire state outside a few blue areas will still vote straight R. They say they won't until October shenanigans force the issue. And they will all vote. I'd be happy to be wrong, but Texas gonna Texas.

Does anyone really expect the deep red states like Texas to swing blue? It's the swing states that matter; Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, maybe Arizona.

A loss of the reliable straight ticket voters can easily flip the swing states. They just need to stay home during the election.

Things will get worse in the fall, unfortunately. Thousands of people will die. Flu season will make it hard to determine who has what and the hospitals will be overwhelmed. The election will be a rout.

Agree, there is a reason Trump suddenly found religion when it comes to masks.

And even his supporters wont believe it. It’s all a democratic hoax. And will be until they die from it, then on their deathbed they might, maybe, believe it.

The republicans politicized this. Don’t ever forget that.

That’s the point - leading on an issue like this is so easy most any moron can do it.
But apparently not a malignant narcissist moron.

Sure, there would be some tough decisions to be made, but all you have to say is “this is a new disease. We don’t always understand exactly what we’re facing or exactly what it will do. But we’ll make the best decisions we can. And when the evidence tells us to change what we’re doing, we’ll make the next decision. But I can promise you one thing - we will always try to do what’s best for the American people.”

Again, a fucking 4th grader could write and deliver this shit.
It's literally about being honest and humble, which he is completely incapable of.

I don't think the flu will be that big of a deal if we're already wearing masks and maintaining social distancing to fight the coronavirus.

Maybe he’s tired of losing and has decided since facts don’t matter, he can pick and choose his wins after the rulings. You know, the hindsight thingy. He should be able to win 100% of the time with this logic while not caring about the issues. Nah, he’s batshit.

It was less believable when it was something happening to someone else. I keep telling my fam how many different ways do they have to tell you they don’t care about you? They’ve asked you to sacrifice the elderly and now children for the economy. But it didn’t matter until it was affecting them.

Trump is almost past the point of no return on suppressing the virus before the election. Without some kind of national lockdown/stay at home order over the next month, we’re not going to be able to quickly “flatten the curve” within 100 days.

Thanks to his intransigence that horse is out of the barn. Had he done that back in late March and opened up around Memorial Day with a mask order we would be back to some semblance of normal by now. People know

I’m telling you covid has opened a lot of eyes. Needless suffering and death hitting close to home while this fuckstick preens with no mask while everyone around him is tested and positives are quarantined. He’s done

He’s a very devout guy, but he also understands science. He was the quintessential one issue voter: abortion. But then his FiL got sick and he has to literally clean up his shit. Then insurance became the primary motivation after he realized no one around him was getting abortions, but they were getting sick. The coronavirus debacle added to his certainty Trump is terrible. But really it was that the daily cascade of dotard’s fuckups became overwhelming.
