Well done.  I didn't realize Mike Moffitt worked for the Trump campaign.  Probably got the job through Kramer.

I look forward to all the awkward conversations in the next few months with Trumpers who still need it explained to them that Jamaica is in North America.  Most people from there are descended from Africa.  David Ortiz explained all of this, and most white people seem to like him.  He's a proud Dominican, that's his country, his nationality.  But his race is African American.  Harris' nationality is U.S. Citizen or American for shorthand.  "Jamaican" is not an ethnicity or race.  It's an island nation.  That she doesn't live in.

If it’s going to be close, Wisconsin is going to decide the election.  Trumps best path is to focus all of his energy on the key areas of WI and FL.  This thing is FAR from decided.

Counterpoint:  Cocaine Mitch and the boys will focus on Senate races in Arizona, Texas, Colorado, Iowa, and maybe Maine (although Collins may be a lost cause). Donny not going to get much help.

30% chance is still too high. Get the fuck out and vote.

Absolutely agree, but we can take solace in the explanation given by Silver:

If these numbers give you a sense of deja vu, it may be because they’re very similar to our final forecast in 2016 … when Trump also had a 29 percent chance of winning! (And Hillary Clinton had a 71 percent chance.) So if you’re not taking a 29 percent chance as a serious possibility, I’m not sure there’s much we can say at this point, although there’s a Zoom poker game that I’d be happy to invite you to.

One last parallel to 2016 — when some models gave Clinton as high as a 99 percent chance of winning — is that FiveThirtyEight’s forecast tends to be more conservative than others. (For a more complete description of our model, including how it is handling some complications related to COVID-19, please see our methodology guide.)

With that said, one shouldn’t get too carried away with the comparisons to four years ago. In 2016, the reason Trump had a pretty decent chance in our final forecast was mostly just because the polls were fairly close (despite the media narrative to the contrary), close enough that even a modest-sized polling error in the right group of states could be enough to give Trump a victory in the Electoral College.

The uncertainty in our current 2020 forecast, conversely, stems mostly from the fact that there’s still a long way to go until the election. Take what happens if we lie to our model and tell it that the election is going to be held today. It spits out that Biden has a 93 percent chance of winning. In other words, a Trump victory would require a much bigger polling error than what we saw in 2016.

So yeah, it's still not time to get complacent. We shouldn't feel comfortable until Biden takes the oath of office.

@HenryJamesWelp, he's going for the trifecta by pulling in the Booker reference. Interdasting as Booker is a genuinely likable fellow.

Projecting, projecting, projecting. Bad karma to invoke the MIA phrase when you're a bone spurs dodger dude.

Yes, Bill looks terribly exhausted and weak. 100 million, stake in the Mets, cool friends, weed, no kids... the man is truly hating life.

You'd have to phrase the question a very certain precise way or it plays right into his bullshit, always promising big things next week that never happen. If you asked "Why don't you do something?" he immediately responds "Oh we're doing big things and you'll hear about them all very soon. Bigly."

Well, you could just phrase it in the form of a statement.  "Mr. President, with your extraordinary power, you could easily have done something by now.  You are full of shit, so stop lying to America and admit you are a giant pussy."

I am going to vote in person. Early vote is my go to anyway so all I will do this time is take steps to go prepared and suited up and if necessary carrying a can of pepper spray to any person trying to make a political point by getting in my face, although I may just borrow my teenager's Axe bottle and douse myself with it.

Pornhub begs to differ.

So how are his constituents going to wrap their brains around wanting a 'Law & Order' president vs. the narrative that Biden supported the 1994 Crime Bill and Kamala Harris' aggressive efforts as a state Attorney General? Oh wait, they won't have to put in that kind of effort.

(not saying that the crime bill or Harris' political ambitions were morally justified)

Side note lazy crime derail question...

Shouldn't all the people that have the signs and door mats that say, "We don't call 911" with the picture of a gun pointed support de-funding (reducing police budgets to save tax payer dollars)?  Seems logical

you should get your absentee ballot and drop it off in person at a polling location. The main problem with in person voting is the queue and having to fill out the entire ballot while you are there. If you can fill the ballot out at home and just "drop it off" that will substantially reduce the amount of exposure you get to the general public at a polling location.

Can you expand on how it works to drop off your ballot at a Texas polling location? I think they're required to validate your ID, and I doubt you can jump the queue so are you forced to wait in line? Is the process the same for every county?

Personally I think it's a great idea to have drop-off locations whether they're polling locations or even more preferably separate locations to not interfere with those voting in person.

The really ragey part is the same types of voters who look at Chicago and the recent episode with destruction and never note nor care that the area where the vandalism occurred was the gentrified location of former housing projects and although the displaced residents often received housing vouchers, many had nowhere to go. America has a slumlord for President who blames the renters for the rats in their walls.

Tried to do a little digging about the removal of machines allegation and came across a couple of items.

First, Snopes has a lengthy entry about the alleged slowing down of service to disrupt voting by mail. They state the claims remain "unproven" but they show substantial documentation of how fucked up things have gotten: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/usps-slowing-mail-trump/

That entry, however, is dated August 6th.

More recently, a local postal union president from Iowa told NPR in an interview

Quote

KING: Are you feeling these changes that are being made in Iowa?

KAROL: Yes, we are beginning to see those changes and how it is impacting the mail. Mail is beginning to pile up in our offices, and we're seeing equipment being removed. So we are beginning to see the impact of those changes.

KING: Curious - I hadn't heard about this one - equipment being removed. What equipment?

KAROL: The sorting equipment that we use to process mail for delivery. In Iowa, we are losing machines. And they already in Waterloo were losing one of those machines. So that also hinders our ability to process mail in the way that we had in the past.

<snip>

KING: Is the Postal Service equipped to handle this this upcoming election?

KAROL: Yes. Keep in mind the Postal Service has been in place for 200 years. We have a history of being able to process mail. And we've been developing and perfecting our methods for all that time. So although the postmaster general is taking actions that are starting to impact that, by having the preparation in advance of these elections, we still have the system that will do that.

Trump really is going right up to the line to scare white suburban women that Blacks or Hispanics are about to move-in next door.  And I actually I agree that probably women that self-identify as housewives will most likely vote for him. I also doubt many women refer to themselves as a housewife. I hear stay-at-home mom, but not housewife.

Worse than that. Donald Trump-nightmare landlord

https://money.cnn.com/2016/03/28/news/trump-apartment-tenants/

It only escalated the legal battle. By 1986, Trump had spent more than $1 million fighting the tenants, according to his attorneys at the time. By comparison, he'd spent $160,000 in repairs over four years, according to statements filed by his legal team.

I'm voting in person on election day. Luckily I live in a rural area and work overnights. I'll get to the poll when it opens. Never had to wait there.

Conversely, the last time I early voted it was at 1 of 2 places in the county and it took nearly an hour. I remember when GWB was running, they set up early voting at Walmart and grocery stores around the county. If they want to make it easy to vote, they can make it easy to vote.

I live in a small town (Taylor), I get mail every day.  Mostly junk, flyers, "we'll buy your house", insurance quotes, etc.  Tuesday is junk mail day, heb ads, coupons, etc.  This week, Monday and Tuesday - zip, nada, empty mailbox.  Finally got our junk mail today, a day late.  I'll be monitoring it for a while but does seem something might be up, we'll see if it's a glitch or not...
