I heard a great point yesterday and I’d like to hear the board’s opinion.

If you believe what Pelosi et al said, Dems rushed to impeach Trump before the election kicked off because he needed to be removed immediately. He’s an existential threat to the Republic. If he makes it to re election there will be election interference again. It cannot be allowed to happen.

If all these things are true, why does Pelosi even invite Trump to deliver the SOTU address? He got to essentially deliver a nationally televised election kickoff address, that had many centrist elements, and was designed to showcase Dems inability to support some very simple things just because he mentions them. It was very well done, on script.

There’s really only two options in my mind.
1-They’re dumb af.
2-They don’t really believe all that stuff above.

Because she is not a hateful vindictive person who treats her political opponents like a third world autocrat. Guess that never crossed your Trump mind.

Because the 3rd option: that the optics for doing such a thing (no SOTU) would give the Trump Party and its followers so much dialogue for their Deep State conspiracy theories that the memes and interviews on Fox Propaganda would be endless. This SOTU has been done traditionally for something like a hundred years so you don't think it would cause some kind of an uproar and drive the partisanship further and much worse than it already is?

Fuck the optics.

This is a battle for the future of our country?

Pelosi postponed SOTU 2019 because of the government shutdown, so I'm pretty sure she would have been happy not to invite Trump to the chambers for SOTU 2020 had she thought it politically expedient.  Clearly, she felt the fact that Trump can't go 5 minutes without stepping on his tiny dick as more valuable than appearing petty.

The fact that GRHorn and other Trumpkins saw that abortion as some sort of centrist political triumph just underscores their lunacy and unabashed authoritarian fantasies.

In the fantasy land where Trump can stay on script, his approval rating is >60% and he’s cruising to re-election. There’s people on the Left that can acknowledge that it was a strong speech.

If Nancy thought it would be a dud, looks like it was a miscalculation.

Article II Section 3 of the Constitution requires the President to update Congress on the "State of the Union." For over 100 years now, POTUS has done this in a formal personal presentation. Do you really think she should have broken that stretch of history and help Trump bring this country further away from the norms of its functioning?

She could always say, just submit a written SOTU. That’s how it’s been done in the past.

I have a good friend from my Air Force days in Wichita Falls who loves Trump. And HATES Rose. This tweet may kill him!

I cant wait to watch him gradually come around to supporting Rose getting into the HoF. It's going to be glorious!

She solemnly and prayerfully ripped up the speech. Because we must follow norms.

Not in over 100 years. If her tearing up her copy of Trump's speech was seen as lacking "decorum" just imagine the shit storm that would've been created by her telling this President he was even welcome on the floor of the House. That's not a realistic option.

Those people are wrong.  Trump's speech was full of lies -- that right there disqualifies "strong".  I couldn't care less what a Trumpkin or a leftist with a Jones for being contrarian says.

Is ripping up a piece of paper the same as treating political opponents like a third world autocrat or is that just more feeble rationalizing you've invented to make this shitshow palatable?

I disagree. Just get all the media on the talking points supporting her decision and it would’ve been accepted. And a strong move. She gave the dangerous authoritarian his biggest pulpit.

Stupid, or she’s not really as concerned as she’s letting on.

Yeah, it's pretty amusing. Decorum is only something Democrats have to adhere to. He's normalized that Republicans can behave as terribly as they wish and it's only worth getting your dander up if a Democrat responds in kind. Again, the son of the President can call a Senator a pussy and no one bats an eye nor is it even widely reported. And that coattail rider will eventually be a candidate for President.

Imagine for a moment, Trump listening to a speech, and after it's over quietly ripping up his copy. It would be the most normal thing he's done in the last five years.

"Did you see Trump quietly ripping those pieces of paper? He's really starting to become presidential now!".

Well, see, GRHorn thinks that “all the media” takes direct commands from Pelosi like Fox does from Trump. This may come as a bit of a shock, but the rest of the country doesn’t do things like Trump and Fox do. Not even fucking close.
This whole discussion is one of GR’s dumbest fucking trolls, and that’s saying a lot. Fuck off, troll.

What an interesting fantasy world you live in. One where our saintly media is above using talking points provided by politicians and their organizations. Remember the walls are closing in? Or John Harwood asking Podesta for approval/input? Podesta’s gone though so I’m sure that whole apparatus was dismantled. 🙄 I could go on

Distributing talking points through media outlets is part of the game. Both sides do it. Saying it doesn’t happen on your side makes you look like a delusional person.

Except one side doesn’t do that. One side actually takes their talking points, and forms policy decisions based on what their foreign-owned media outlet tells them.

But it does matter, doesn't it? Otherwise why would the Republicans who were on the HIC knowingly say that they weren't represented during the depositions or allowed to ask questions when the transcripts showed that they were there and speaking to the testifiers? Why would Republicans who were on the House Intelligence Committee have their colleagues storm into the meetings in an effort to create that impression? Why would Devin Nunes not mention that he was in contact with Lev Parnas while he was conducting his Ranking Member position on the HIC unless it was to avoid bad optics?

You really thought that was a great point? Really? All it really indicates to me is that whoever made that point and you must believe that every official decision and tradition should be bent to political aims. You project that belief onto what you think the Dem's actions portend.

The option that you don't name is that the Pelosi didn't see any point to politicizing the speech anymore than Trump intended to do himself. She decided to allow his lies to speak for themselves. She extended a hand before the speech because she evidently believes that government must still go on.

This is really poor reasoning even by your blindered standard.

It's a shame that Trumpists are so irony deaf. You just decried talking points by publishing talking points based in anecdotal evidence.

Rush balances out CNN. The news media is in bed with the Dems. They're all coming to get us with hidden agendas and narratives. Grow the fuck up.

Nude pictures of the President, Devin? It's Sunday, why aren't you in church instead of preaching president porn?

I think is Nunes pulling a reverse-psychology Jimmy Wah move from "Good Morning Vietnam" with the Walter Brennan photos.

Nunes, "Hey house Democrats, any word on the naked pictures of President Trump?"

House Leadership, "Nah Devin...and it doesn't look good."

Nunes, "He look good to me..."

House Leadership, "You're a very sick man, Devin."

Nunes, "Sank you very much"

What are you talking about? I just pointed out that distributing talking points is commonplace. I said literally nothing in your second paragraph that you ascribe to me.

By ignoring all the answers to this question and merely asking it again, you have convinced me that the point you heard was actually brilliant as was the way you so vividly portrayed all available options of what we were to conclude from Pelosi's decision not to cancel the SOTU address.

Thanks for the enlightenment. Godspeed.
