2020 Poker: Color Up!

R means rebuy, R/A means Rebuy & Add-on.  The rebuys obviously build bigger prize pools.  The optional "Add-on" is done after a certain number of levels have been played, usually 10-15, when the rebuy period ends.  It looks like the daily schedule is being tweaked right now, trying to find the perfect balance, but for the most part this is the standard daily schedule.  There are daily freerolls that aren't on it, and Sunday has a 500 rebuy, 300K gtd.  Tuesday has a 1K, 1 rebuy, no add-on with 250K gtd.

Pulled off my first bluff ever in PLO. Granted, I don't play much PLO, but I've been playing more and more over the last month.

Little .25/.50 R.O.E. game on Pokerrrr2 app. Six handed. Everyone at the table knows me. I have the reputation of "always having it" and wanted to use that to my advantage. The problem is that these donkeys never fold.

I had the A of clubs in the cutoff. Limp, fold, limp, fold, call, check, and four players see the flop. There are two clubs on the flop, it checks to me, and I bet half the pot intending to bluff any club on the turn or river, unless the board pairs. Everyone calls.

Turn was a club. Check, check, and the villain, with whom I have a significant history, donks into me half pot. I pot it, fold, fold, call.

River was clean. He checks and I bet 1/2 pot. He folds and shows K of clubs and Q of clubs.

I wasn't sure whether to bet 1/2 the pot as a bluff or 2/3 pot. I often value bet 1/2 the pot so I went with that.

Was there any virtue of showing the bluff? I didn't.

I remember the High Stakes Poker episode where they were talking about Matusow declaring he was just going to jam anytime he held a top nut flush draw card that would have hit the river even if his second card was another suit. To my novice ear that sounded legit until I tried it in a few sessions

Just a great story. I’ve been following Depaulo for awhile. He used to punt too much but has vastly improved. He’s been getting coached by Bobby “PokerGuru740” Kuhn. Kuhn has a bracelet this series, many deep runs and is leading the WSOP leaderboard. Depaulo is 5th in leaderboard. PokerGuru740 is a great follow on Twitch. He takes bluff spots I never would and it’s insightful.

The Venetian poker room is installing plexiglass dividers to allow eight-handed games.

Ten tables already have dividers, and all 32 tables in the room will be fitted with them in the next two weeks. The poker room’s Twitter account provided the information, and a casino spokeswoman confirmed it was accurate.

Traditional poker tournaments will resume at The Venetian on July 24. The room has been hosting shootout-style tournaments over the past few weeks that require players to defeat their entire table before moving on to the next table. In traditional tournaments, tables are balanced throughout as players are eliminated.

The Venetian’s tables that don’t have plexiglass yet will continue to host five-handed games, per guidelines from the state Gaming Control Board.

Sahara Las Vegas is now hosting seven-handed games after installing plexiglass, poker operations manager Steven Pique said on Twitter. The room will also start hosting shootout-style tournaments July 25.

The Aria, the Bellagio, MGM Grand and The Orleans are hosting six-handed games with plexiglass. Caesars Palace, the Flamingo, the Golden Nugget and the South Point are hosting five-handed games without plexiglass.

So Depalo was on the pokernews podcast.

its a long interview with some of Ryan's crazy humor mixed in but the stunning part is his reveal that he was having all kinds of problems connecting to the WSOP servers.

He had his cell phone next to him if needed to log in if his tablet or laptop kicked off.

When he first started, after like 2 hours, WSOP suddenly said he wasn't in NJ anymore (he hadnt moved) thats what forced him to start looking for a place to play other than his hotel.

then when he found he could park at Whole Foods using their wifi, the wifi system kept  kicking him off the internet on the hour, every hour.  That was probably something related to using the free wifi having a max time being allowed to be logged in.

It caused him to be very wary when he got close to the top of the hour, not slow playing, and being forced several times to just shove his good hand because he couldnt take the chance of losing connection without his whole stack being in there and getting force folded.   each time he got booted caused him to have almost no timebank at all so he was having to make lots of quick decisions.... then the story of what happened once he got to 3 handed on the final table is mind blowing.

you thought Negranau was having issues...

try having the software suddenly think you were playing a limit poker tournament with only 3 players left. Instead of it being no limit.

He could call, fold or do exactly a min-raise.

Oh you are on the small blind with Ax and the button folded, and the BB only has 8 blinds left??  you cant shove, all you can do is raise to 2 BB.

He said that happened for about 10 mins it was driving him nuts.   Although maybe he gained some spots because  it was probably confusing the shit out of his opponents trying to figure out why he was min-raising

I've made some stupid plays and learned some harsh lessons, but I don't think I've ever seen a play like this before.

5-way limped pot, I have 8-8 in the cutoff, and the flop is Q-8-K rainbow. Hijack bets, I raise, BB 3-bets, I 4-bet, and BB 5-bet shoves with K-Q.

5-bet shoving 120 big blinds in a limped pot with top two. This is not a beginner. I've played with this guy for years.

youtube introduced me to this kid out of Boston about a year and half ago.  I watched mostly because he was a 1/3 cash game player that would record his live games and report afterwards. but he .... really wasnt that good.

He wasnt terrible but he has no fold button, hes aggressive as hell and he continuously bets into calling stations when he has nothing talking about fold equity and shit when the guy hes up against really cant fold.

He is making money playing live, he documented a $10k challenge over 2 months, but hes only recently started streaming and playing online.

anyway..... he fucking live streamed almost his entire run in event 26

its a 9 hour video.  its not edited.    maybe he releases an edited version

the final table starts around hour 7.    dude ends up getting in a 3 way all in early on the final table, hes badly behind almost completely misses the flop, and needs runner runner to have a chance....  it happens.

then when it gets down to 6 handed he starts leaning heavily on the table as the chip leader (which is what he needs to do), but he ends up in a dream spot where he has 60% of the chips in play with 4 players left,  where he covers the  2 players that are effectively tied for 2nd by 4X, and the 4th player has half the chips as those 2.  So he just keeps shoving. and chips the fuck up until its heads up where he holds 65% of the chips.      But he makes what I think is a terrible call  when he calls a 27XBB  3bet shove with only 44..... but it holds somehow,  bracelet winner along with $160K.... and I dont think he sold much if any action. I think its pretty much all his

Ethics question:

You make it to heads up in a tourney. You have the full intention of offering a deal and are on the button for the 1st hand of heads up. But before you offer the deal and purely out of instinct you look at your cards and see AA. Is it unethical to play the hand and not offer a deal?
Does your answer change whether it’s online or live? Home game vs. casino?
We had it happen in our online home tourney and the guy pushed all in, doubled up his short stack and then a hand later wanted a deal. It didn’t go over well.

Deals are made between hands. Once cards are dealt the hands are played.

Imo, there’s no issue with not wanting a deal and then a few hands later wanting one. Deciding if your in/out based off your position/stack is entirely reasonable, just as it is for your opponent to change their mind as well.

Above is for live. I don’t know about online where cards are always in the air

Here's an ethics question.

I was heads-up in a MTT on the Pokerrrr2 app. That app lets you do voice messages or you can type them.

Guy types "deal 50/50?" or something like that.

I don't like to type and play my hand, so I respond with something short like "Let's play it out." My subjective intention is to say, "yes, I'll do a deal, but let's finish playing because I love heads-up."

He responds "Lol okay no deal then."

In the meantime I've won a few pots and change my mind. I win about ten hands later.

Did I do something unethical?

For me, if you want to talk deal talk deal before we start playing the first hand heads up or we play the whole thing.  Don't stop at some arbitrary time when the chip count is in your favor.   It's not an ethics thing - it's a courtesy/respect type of thing in my mind.

Not at all.

I think I should always be willing to reevaluate my situation to make the most advantageous decision for me. Therefor, I’m willing to let the others have that same opportunity.

Aria $125 daily maybe 5 years ago. Guy gets super wasted around bubble. For several hours makes a complete ass of himself, enduring several time outs in the process, but keeps building stacks. He makes it to final 5 and declares he won’t chop with any of us assholes when we ask. At some point he got cut off and started sobering up by the time we get down to three way. Now, suddenly he wants to chop. Had he not been a dick, I totally would have, because sober he was a pretty good player. However, fuck that guy, so I said no and knocked him out about 30 mins later. Then me and other guy happily chopped.

This is a great answer. Thank you. It’s a little weird for us because we play on “play” money tables and there isn’t an option to pause. So you both have to sit out at the same time. And even then you get dealt cards.

Definitely not unethical but definitely confusing. You have to type “yes let’s make a deal but play the heads up out for fun”.
“let’s play it out” will 100% be interpreted as meaning playing the rest out for money.

Since we're doing ethics questions.

I hosted a cash game last night on the Pokerrrr2 app. 99% of the time I let the games go on until they naturally wind down.

Last night I announce the game will terminate in 30 minutes. At that point there were only four of us, and one of the players, who was obviously drunk, goes full tilt. I extend the game for another hour, which massively compounded his losses.

The way I see it, if there's a guy giving away his money, I owe it to the table to keep the game up.

Nothing wrong there. This isn’t the military. End times are flexible.

I was in an interesting spot yesterday. Say the villain hates you, and you often stack him, including last session, but you've never noticed him targeting you.

The villain was up big and says to me "I'm coming for your chips."

20-30 minutes later, villain limps in the cutoff, I get KK on the button, raise 4x, and get three callers including the villain.

Flop was 5-8-10 rainbow. Checks to me, I bet half pot, SB calls, BB folds, and the villain raises 5x. I call.

Turn is a 3. There are two diamonds now. Villain shoves for 170% of pot. I'm the effective stack, so it's for all of my chips.

I've played with this guy for years and if he's ever made a bluff like this I'm not aware of it. He has a set, 6-7, or 9-J.

Spoiler

I ended up calling and he had 5-5. I hit a K on the river lol.

I’ve bluffed with the nut-blocker in position three times now and it’s worked all three times. Had to triple-barrel shove to get it through last night. In my excitement I showed the bluff.

Man, I really miss live poker. For two years I put in at least 30 hrs week if not 50, and played at least one good tourney a month.

Cold turkey sucks.

Not trying to start a whole Covid BS discussion but why are you not playing live if you want to? Are they not open in Jacksonville? (I think that is where you are living).

I thought about the risks, but I really have a bigger chance of getting something through my work (prehospital healthcare) than cards, so I have been playing live (ATX) a couple times a week for at least a couple months now. And at different card houses with no issues. Wear a mask (sucks), wash your hands often, and use hand sanitizer.

My crew at work have both tested positive (at different times May and July) and I was quarantined (taken off work) both times also even though with negative tests (really sucks having that done) for me. I've been tested 3x now as I just had some surgery (been on hold for 6 months) this last week.

If you are really missing live and have a club or casino open near you, I would contact them and discuss their sanitary procedures.

Good Luck Lurch.
