nba playoff pool

did this for years at the other site, gonna bring it here.  it's pretty straight forward, $25 entry fee and winner take all.  as soon as the playoff matchups are cemented on wednesday, simply post your picks on this thread before tip off of the first game on saturday.  this year should actually be pretty interesting as there is a lot of opportunity for people to make different picks from each other.

scoring rules:

1st round series - 10 points, 2nd round - 20 points, conference finals - 30 points, nba finals - 40 points.  there is a 5 point per series bonus if you get the number of games the series goes correct (after the first round, you must have both teams playing in the series correct in order to be eligible for the bonus).

anyway, that's it.  just wanted to get this thread up and running so this can be on people's minds for almost a week before the playoffs actually begin.

aren't  you one of the people i'm gonna owe fantasy basketball winnings to here in a few days?  you could always just "reinvest" $25 of it.

i also had an idea for a playoff eliminator pool for something like $10/person where you pick 1 team every day of the playoffs.  maybe that's a different thread though.

Yeah I guess for me you can use $25 of what I’m owed for the league, which I believe leaves me at $150 (I’m going to finish runner-up). Feel free to send me that a couple of days early.

Yes I am.  And yes I will just reinvest $25 of it so count me in.

Has this been the rule in the past? I can't remember.

And I'm definitely in.

it definitely was last year and i think maybe the year before.  but there have been years in the past where it wasn't.  just feels like you should have the entire series correct in order to get the bonus.

Ok so how does this work? Do we just post our predictions on this thread?

correct.  anytime after the playoff matchups are official tomorrow night and tip off of the first game.  i'll keep up with the scoring on this thread as well.

for anyone who isn't reinvesting fantasy basketball money with me, you can paypal/venmo your $25 entry to cade747@gmail.com.  just make sure it's in by tip off of playoff game 1.

  • 2 weeks later...

just realized i never updated this after the end of philly/boston (only 1 person had celtics over philly).  so here is the official leader board post round 2:

  1. bigorange - 135
  2. immortal/derka/hornonthebayou/rex wilson - 130
  3. joey covers/derka's friend - 120

If I did my math right,

If Golden State wins in 5 games, Rex Wilson and I split.
Anything else, Rex Wilson wins outright.

Did I do that right?

your math appears to be right.

post conference finals standings:

  1. rex wilson - 195
  2. hornonthebayou - 190
  3. derka/immortal/bigorange - 165
  4. derka's friend - 155
  5. joey covers - 120

so the 2 most active loudmouth basketball nerds can't win at their own game.  not even land 2nd place. have to fight over the bronze prize.

that's gold!
