Dumbass Shit on Nextdoor

it really is astonishing to me that so many people lose their shit at the idea of someone ringing their doorbell or knocking on their door.

just 20 years ago that was a normal event.

If you dont like travelling salesmen, or mormons, or baptists evangelizing on your door.........dont answer the door.

But if you bold enough to dare and walk to that front door and open it, you lost the right to freak out because you think these folks are "canvasing the neighborhood?"

come the fuck on.

I might have told this story before, sorry in advance.

I used to have jehovas witness or maybe LDS people swing by on Sunday way more often than anyone ever would need. The exchange always went the same and I always tried to kindly shoo them off and convince them to never come again, I was unsuccessful until one special Sunday.  My first child was a very difficult baby and very difficult to get to sleep. The weekend had been brutal with not enough sleep and we had finally got the kid to actually sleep. I went outside to work on a project and that is when it happened. All I heard was the wife's yappy dog start barking, then a baby screaming. The wife comes outside and angrily tells me someone is knocking on our front door despite the sign clearly stating "Do not disturb, baby sleeping."  I instantly lost my shit, stomped around to the front of the house and starting yelling at the idiot before I could even see who it was. Well it was two young kids dressed in their LDS outfits, maybe 14-15 years old and they were visibly terrified of me. That was when I realized, I was still holding the pick axe I had been using to dig in the backyard. They ended up running away before I really realized how crazy I looked. They have never returned and I am pretty sure they never will.

Back in ancient times when I still got the paper I'd often get it in my boxers. I checked the peep hole and no one was around so I headed out to get it. Got  the paper and started heading back in and coming up the sidewalk that led from my driveway to the front door and out of the view of my peep hole are 4 old lady jehovas in their sunday best. So we stood there for a second just kinda staring at each other, then I tell them I'm not sure what you're hear to talk about but I'm good, and head inside.

Way back in the day we used to get them door-to-door in my apartment building. This was basically your typical cheap-ish complex full of early-to-mid 20s kids. I was on the bottom floor and the natural first door they'd knock on. One Sunday afternoon I had just gotten back from watching football with my perma-high 3rd floor neighbors, and knew the state of their apartment when I'd left. The Mormons knocked on my door and I told them that the guys in apartment 305 wanted to chat with them. Took my dog to the greenbelt behind our building which had a sightline to the third floor, so I could take in the scene. When my buddies opened the door it looked something like this:

rich-kay-photo.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&

Never saw them again. I think they just wrote off our entire building.

The mormons used to canvass a neighborhood I lived in every damn sunday. One day I could see them walking down the back street from my patio. So I go inside, strip to my briefs, grab a beer, turn porn on the big screen, which is visible from the front door, and wait.

Doorbell rings, I throw the door wide open, and the terror in their eyes was enough to give me an erection

They never came again, but I did.

I assume you were using that pick ax to dig a grave for the yappy dog.

My folks live on 3 acres and the house is dead center and not visible from the road.  Just a mailbox and gravel drive weaving through the woods.  It takes a pretty brave soul to walk down there uninvited.  On day my Dad hears their red healer Buster going ape shit.  He looks out in the driveway and sees 3 Mormons standing back to back while Buster circles them with his hackles up and looking like he'll murder them at any moment.

He laughed for a while and then opened the front door and said "When I call him you have 10 seconds to be gone".  They were and he's never been visited since.  That was about 20 years ago.  He thinks he's on a list somewhere.

Update: My dog and I were bullied and Nextdoor doesn't care!

Rex (my Dachshund) and I recently posted about him being bullied and shamed regarding his weight/build by a group of teenagers. The discussion was lively and energized. All of the comments helped with recovering from the traumatic event. Then - Nextdoor removed the post with no explanation or warning. NOW I FEEL BULLIED! I thought this was a place of love and community? Please help.

I neighbor posts a video of a snake a couple weeks ago.  Unquestionably a harmless water snake for anyone who knows anything about snakes.  OP not concerned about the snake, picks up the snake and takes pictures, etc.  10 days later, this:

That appears to be a Sidewinder. I'm no expert. Surprised to see in a grassy area, be careful. Venomous, triangular head. Lookup "Sidewider snake".. https://snake-facts.weebly.com/sidewinder.html Thanks for the video.

I guess this is the best place to put this.  Need a surly opinion.

Read a post recently about someone getting pissed because they got an HOA citation because they leave their trash can on th side of their house and apparently there is a rule about trashcans being out of view from the street.  The person claimed it was hidden by an AC unit.  Whatever, but the weird thing to me we multiple people saying putting the trash in their garage was simply NOT an option, because it smells.  Well I've gone all my adult life with my trashcan IN my garage.  It's never really been a problem with smells unless maybe it's the day before trash day and my kids were still in diapers.

So, am I a Savage for keeping my cans in the garage are are my neighbors just creating stinker than normal trash.

Let me tell you something, pendejo. You pull any of your crazy shit with us, you flash a piece out on the lanes, I'll take it away from you, and stick it up your ass and pull the fucking trigger 'til it goes "click."

The Ring Doorbell is the best.  It's like caller ID for the front door.  "Ding Dong"- whip out phone, take a look, blow them off, or tell them to fuck off and you'll start shooting in 20 seconds.

I’d agree with you back when we had biweekly (or even triweekly) pickup.  But with only once a week pickup when you have kids in diapers and are cooking a lot (especially with raw meats like chicken or seafood) and the temp is over 90 the fucking garage smells like shit after a few days, so yeah mine now resides in the side yard.

Heh, I remember a travelling salesman showing up about 35 years ago.  My dad and I were out in the shop trying to get our old piece of shit JD 2010 tractor running and it wasn't going well.  It was July and about 110 degrees under that tin roof, we were both dripping with sweat and mightily pissed off.  Some asshole pulls up and the dogs go nuts, clamoring about his car.  He rolls his window down just enough that one of the Catahoulas or Yellow Curs can't get their snout in and get at him and yells at us.  The old man comes out, bleeding pretty well from barking a knuckle on the frame of that piece of shit John Deere when a nut finally broke, and in my learned estimation in a highly pissed off mood.  The guy yells are these dogs safe for me to get out?  Pop asks him what do you want, and he says he wants to talk to us about dictionaries or some shit.  Sure, come on out, Pop says.  He pops the door and jumps out, and ol' Buck, the alpha male of our dogs, bites him right in the ass.  He screams and leaps back in the car, yelling I thought you said to come on out.  My old man said, "I did, but I never promised you wouldn't get your ass bit.  Now get the fuck out of here."

Coronavirus

I don’t wanna alarm anyone but the coronavirus will soon spread easily from person to person. The first means of contamination is money. Please handle all money with gloves and place in a Ziploc bag and then put in an envelope, seal the envelope and mail it to me and I will make sure it’s destroyed. I am doing this for the good of public health so please don’t call me a hero, I’m just doing my part in the community! Seriously, you can just send it to me!!

Not Neighbor but the FB community watch page..

So the local ministerial alliance put up a cross in the town square like they do every year, no biggie, (this is in Taylor BTW, hi @Armybrat), there's been nativity scenes there before, etc.   This year somebody made a big TOMB to place alongside the cross (by somebody, it looks like the local drama club, not exactly daVinci quality here...).  Well, apparently you need a permit for that and they didn't get one, so bye bye TOMB.  Holy hell, did that bring out the "Christians" (of which I am one, but I'm more the live and let live type).  Gonna overthrow the whole city council, it was all the usual suspects (you know who got blamed, trying to keep this non-CR).  Not so much lulz but it does let me know who the idiots are in my little burg...

ETA: pretty amazing to know some stone cutter during the Crucifixion knew what the state of Texas was going to look like someday...
