Govna Abbott going to make a “statewide announcement “ this afternoon - rumors are he’s going to end the mask mandate and possibly other COVID restrictions.

I think it would be beyond incompetent to do that now.  Which means he probably will.   Cases are lower but potentially plateauing with the threat of more contagious variants ramping up.  But on the flip side vaccines are also really starting to ramp up.   It we could just limit spread for another month with basic precautions we will be sitting here in April with significantly warmer weather combined with a ton of vaccine supply.   The optics alone of ending the mask mandate the weeks before fucking spring break is the dumbest fucking thing he could do.

You can’t?

Yeah....that's not even a credible position.  Assume the stupidest path imaginable, and then bet everything you have on Americans following it.  You'll be rolling in Scrooge McDuck piles of cash in no time.

I’ll still be wearing a mask for the foreseeable future regardless of the mandate. Until I’m fully vaccinated it is the best protection. I think it’s stupid to be ending it now if that is indeed what is going to happen.

I get that there's finally some optimism in the air, but this should not be repealed statewide.  Herd immunity is not a switch that flicks on everywhere at once.  It's more like a 52-year old water treatment plant lever that nobody really understands.  JNJ/Merck are gonna need at least 60 days to start really getting more vaccines out there, registration and scheduling are still a clusterfuck for the other two, and Spring Break is in two weeks for most of the state.  This is literally the worst possible timing to take our eye off mitigation/slowing community spread.  Plus we still need to convince about 1/3rd of the stupid people to take this thing as well sometime between now and July.

That's a lot of heavy lifting yet to go.  I think it's 4-5 more months to go of simple mitigation efforts.  Nobody's asking to "shut things down", implement quarantines, close down schools.  We do this right, and it's Caligula level debauchery with no protection of any kind by Labor Day.  But we're Texas, we're gonna fuck it up and limp half-assed all the way until Christmas.

Imagine if Texas leaders listened as hard to the "we would enjoy a bit of gas and water for our home this week during this blizzard, please sir...if it's not too much trouble." as they did to the "Muh Fucking Freedoms, I won't wear this muzzle no more dammit!"

Well Abbot is a fucking moron.   Right on the precipice of winding this thing down and he wants to make it as hard as possible and embolden all the fucking morons.    What a god damn fucking idiot.

This timing doesn't make any fucking sense.

IMO the mandates shouldn’t have been relaxed until we can move beyond 1A and 1B for vaccinations. My dad has cancer and still can’t even find an appointment for a shot. Wait until those who are at the highest risk of severe infection are more widely vaccinated before lifting all the restrictions. Yeesh.

He said a few too many reasonable things about the election late last year so now he needs to do a bunch of stupid shit to get his base back, lest he get outflanked to the right by someone more crazy and stupid than he is.

Wanna wear the mask? You still can. Want to make patrons of your business wear a mask? You still can.

I think a lot of people will continue to wear one or require others to wear them at their place of business/home.

I’ve had both shots; why should I continue wearing a mask? Solidarity LOL?

Have u been living under a rock? You can still transmit the disease to others even with vaccination

and no, this mask mandate removal is actually kind of a big deal. Gives people a huge false sense of security when we still need to be hyper vigilant

We are about to land the plane in a typhoon and instead of focusing on the runway and having everyone wear seatbelts, we are jerkin off in the bathroom to zombie porn

So for those of you who are happy that this is happening and are saying that businesses still have the right to make people wear masks, do you also fully support businesses having people who refuse to wear a mask arrested for trespassing when they won't leave? How about suing the people for property damage when we have another round of fit throwing by unstable people like the last time that the state was without a mask mandate?

Way to prolong Lung AIDS, fucking dipshits.

He just tacked on 2-3 months of this fucking thing.  of course the only people who'll care are those of us trying to mitigate this thing in the first place.

I know it's Texas Independence Day and we need to defray that whole thing where the Energy Capital of the World ran out of Energy for a week.  But come the fuck on, that JNJ/Merck tagteam is months away from full deployment...plus they didn't time their fucking announcement because of Texas Independence Day.

Every other Texas has two stories to tell this week.  How bad they got fucked during the storm two weeks ago and some debacle they experienced trying to register to get the vaccine for them or a loved one.  When those are the only two things we have to talk about as a state, that's not codespeak for "Fuck the Masks"

I hope everyone of you fuckers enjoys your Spring Break trips, come back and fuck up school for the last quarter.  Why not.  Selfish fucks.

Honestly at this point, half the people I see out and about aren't wearing masks.  Over half the people at the gym I go to don't wear masks.  People are too self absorbed and only care about themselves.  Shocking, I know.

The mask mandate was just a political play in the first place.  Not everyone abides by it.  Him opening up 100% and ending the mandate is essentially a pat on the back and gives people the false sense of security that this thing is over.  By the end of March, we'll be at 12,000+ new cases per day and in the midst of another crisis in the Med center in Houston.

But hey, we beat the thing!

Can private businesses still mandate a mask, even if the government isn't? For example, can you have like Walmart or Target not allow anti-maskers into their stores on the grounds it's store policy, if they wanted to pick that fight (like a dresscode of sorts, and it's equally applied to all)?

We're at what, maybe 12% of Texas having been vaccinated so far?  I think it's like 9% fully and 3% have the first shot in the arm already?

We're not even hitting Mendoza and this guy's throwing parades?  12 out of 100?  Stephen Hawking slugged better than that, course he was half Lou Gehrig.
