Did you cuss them out for taking away the right to pray in public you’ve been tortured for over the centuries? Tell them they don’t know shit about God’s Will and show them a 30 year old medical study about AIDS? I mean, certainly you expresses your outrage, right?

Who would I cuss out. The bishop? Your hate God and religion schtick might have impressed the ladies 30 years ago when you’re in high school but it is pretty lame here.

Still catching up on this thread, but does anyone have any insight on why the UIL decided to suspend events 3/16 instead of sooner?

I ask because my kid's team is in a USSSA baseball tournament this weekend (well, my kid won't be), and evidently that is the rationale for it not being cancelled.  I mean, besides USSSA valuing money over all else.

There are still a lot of people conjecturing about their illnesses in the last few weeks. I have been seeing a viral syndrome likely associated with adenovirus infection. There have been viral confirmations of this both at TDH and with our local system lab. I have not personally seen any of these progress to pneumonia or ARDS so I don’t think we saw Covid 19 prior to March.

Here’s a link to CDC information on the symptoms. They’re going to look really familiar. Now you know why diagnosing mild Covid clinically is such a bitch.

Adenovirus symptoms

  • common cold or flu-like symptoms
  • fever
  • sore throat
  • acute bronchitis (inflammation of the airways of the lungs, sometimes called a “chest cold”)
  • pneumonia (infection of the lungs)
  • pink eye (conjunctivitis)
  • acute gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach or intestines causing diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pain)

Anecdotal n=1, but my mother (61 yo) in northeast Houston developed an acute upper respiratory infection on Dec. 30 accompanied by low grade fever and dry, raspy cough. On Day 6 or 7 she went to Urgent Care and got a neg Flu test, given antibiotics and assigned rest and Tylenol. No improvement, went to her PCP around Jan. 15 and was diagnosed with mild pneumonia, given different meds (maybe antivirals) and a steroid injection. Returned per doc’s request on Jan. 30, “pneumonia” resolved by cough and headache persisted. Got a second steroid shot in the keester. “Recovered” by around Feb. 5.

You forgot the part about walking past the virology lab after he ate the bat and bumping into the Chinese version of Charles Campion as he was sliding under the closing door.

Ole Stu never shoulda turned off those pumps.

Hap, Campion, baby Lavon, Redman and the rest woulda burned up when Campion crash landed in Arnette and there’d be no need for 1200 more pages of unbelievable suspense, wild side characters (ya believe that happy crappy?  Don’t tell me I’ll tell you), and the best villain King ever created...only to be let down by the biggest anticlimax of all time.

...well I guess he infected people along the way but I’m gonna rant here.

IT is the scariest thing I’ve ever read, and I can excuse the whole weird spider/turtle dimension + underage sex bit as King was three sheets 24x7.  The end of The Stand will forever piss me off as lazy, everyone knew Trashy was going to play a part but it just struck me as ‘I’m hungover and my publisher needs this now...Jesus take the wheel/bomb.

/rant over.

Little League is shut down for 3 weeks but USSSA was like, "Yeah just try not to bring as many spectators to the tournament this weekend. We good."

Can't say I was too surprised when I heard that.

So in the mass emails AISD has been blasting out, I saw this little gem.

Quote

Curbside lunch meals will be provided for each child in the car. The meals will be packaged together and provided today March 13 as well as Monday-Friday starting March 23 if schools continue to be closed. Children must be present to receive a meal package. Meals are not available for adults.

And to expand on this, Qom was the epicenter in Iran, and its pop density is ~100 per sq km.  I dont know that population density matters as much as social density.  The big spreader in Daegu was the church where thousands of parishioners all cram together for hours.  The big spreader in Qom was the mosque where sick people come to get healed.  Italy is full of jam packed piazzas, and they church it up pretty hard.  The common factor there is likely age (church is generally full of an older crowd) and a bottleneck of people all in close contact / touching a lot of the same surfaces.

SK pulled off a miracle by keeping it largely out of Seoul through super aggressive testing and social distancing.  Iran went the exact opposite route, initially dismissing the disease, and in Qom's case, thinking the mosque would make things better by flocking to it.  Italy is somewhere in the middle.  They tried to do the bare minimum to reduce impact on day to day life, and it ramped up out of their control quickly.

All good points.  I was just tossing out data points for consideration.

That Americans mostly hate and distrust each other may be our saving grace.

If the Fortnite creators could pump out some more major updates soon, that could help with social distancing here in America.

After watching the White House press conference I am adding Dr. Deborah Birx to my list of trustworthy folks working on this.

She talked about working with Google to create a web site that allows you to answer some questions, describe your symptoms, decided if you need a test or not, and then get directed to a list of drive through sites to be tested.  The Wal-Mart CEO was there saying that many of their sites are going to have drive through testing in their parking lots.

Well, there goes that...

@verge: Update: contrary to Trump’s claim, Google is not building a nationwide coronavirus screening website https://www.theverge.com/2020/3/13/21179118/google-coronavirus-testing-screening-website-drive-thru-covid-19 https://twitter.com/verge/status/1238590841721106433/photo/1

while true, that market has diminished returns and does not welcome noobs (unless they have addressed skilled based matchmaking). on a similar topic, I found this pretty cool:

London (CNN Business)A popular video game has become home to a virtual library where players can lay eyes on censored news articles from around the world.

In a virtual library found in Minecraft -— a game where users can build virtual worlds out of blocks and create their own storylines — users can access the work of journalists who have been killed, jailed or exiled by governments, including articles by Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
The project, launched by Reporters Without Borders, design collective Blockworks, advertising agency DDB Germany and production company MediaMonks, gives users access to articles banned in five countries that rank poorly on the nongovernmental organization's World Press Freedom Index: Egypt, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam"

Maybe the new WikiLeaks

Yes. Everything I've read from Italians on reddit to media reporting indicates there's no problem with keeping the lights on or grocery stores open.

Are you operating under the assumption this virus has not been growing exponentially across the US for some time?

I've been under the impression this virus with it's R0 doubles the numbers of infections every 3 days or so.

So yes, I am under the impression, irregardless of whatever testing is taking place or not, that the number of infections are and have been skyrocketing for some time.

Hopefully the rate of spread slows significantly soon with appropriate social distancing.

But then again Post Malone concerts, Spring Break travel, etc. are still taking place so I am not particularly confident it slows very much.

negged for use of irregardless....which just shows a person's ass.  didn't even consider the rest of the content

They are smart enough to be using bidets.  Some are even using seashells, but probably only two.

I am probably going to regret asking this, but what is it with this 'seashell' reference?

Thanks for answering questions, @Newdoc. Stay healthy.

About a month ago, Kroger had a big sale on pasta and I stocked up. In times of crisis, a good red sauce, spaghetti, and a bottle of wine can make the world disappear for awhile.
