Duterte extended the most extreme quarantine zones to May 15 in some areas including Metro Manila and Central Luzon which includes Angeles City where I live. Angeles city, which has over 400,000 people has 11 confirmed cases so far with 2 deaths and 7 current. Some how that equals a high risk zone in the Philippines. The other parts of the Philippines are also quarantine zones but with less restrictions. They are still limiting travel between Barangays unfortunately. My Ex GFs apartment is in a different Barangay, but her ID says she lives with me so she cannot even go home to her apartment.  So I am stuck for at least 3 more weeks before they will hopefully relax things a little.

Are you going to start pushing theories that Clorox major competition was colluding with the Chinese to create the virus? ‘Cause that would be on brand for you chief.

How are you both feeling these days, any more ailments?

Hope when the worst passes, your beneficiaries of your generosity are able to get back on their economic feet.

the only thing worse about the politics in this thread is the people complaining they can't talk about politics.

ban hammer is coming out and I'm about to start swinging it like a tard with a baseball bat.

This thread is for news and current events.

No one gives a shit about your opinions of who is at fault or what you think someone should have done.

There are threads to discuss politics, and if you want to discuss the moderation of this thread feel free to start a thread about it in the appropriate forum.

Not now, Bob.

Were you triggered when @Johnny Sack shared his opinion on our governments’ response?

No.  Didn't read it.  Saw dumb ass post from CR jack ass and posted.  Happened to be one of the first posts I read tonight.

If you've tripped into CR you know where dumb ass comes from.  Stand by my post.  If you want to do anything about it I'll be outside.  I'm a lot drunker than you so it should be a fair fight.

Mindless musings on a Friday night in quarantine. I was just thinking that sex workers are taking a huge hit with the pandemic. Made me think of something that happened when the economy tanked in 2001.

When I got laid off during the burst of the Dot Com bubble I had lunch with a coworker several weeks after we got RIF'ed.

Me: How is your job search going?

Him: Still looking but I am pretty busy with my temporary job.

Me: Oh, what are you doing some coding work part time?

Him: No, I am an escort manager.

Me: A what? What kind of work is that?

Him: I organize and oversee the scheduling and payments for some girls that work as escorts for a percentage of their fee.

Me: That sounds like you are a pimp.

Him: Yeah.

Not sure what thread to put this...

Is anyone else getting too used to everything already? Seeing people out in public in masks, staying inside a bunch, only getting takeout, the sneezeguards/social distancing at stores, none of it feels weird at all to me anymore. Not sure if that’s a good thing or scary.

Come down to NB if you wanna see the public acting like normal without the masks. Buncha dumbfucks around here.

Stopped in the Lowes in Sonora this morning and no one in store was wearing a mask, employees were wearing gloves. Last I heard there were no cases in Sutton county. But my buddy went to Del Rio a couple weeks ago and you got yelled at if you didn't have a mask going in a convenience store.

I mean, that is certainly a good thing in an overall sense. The doubling time decreased starting in early April, most likely due to all our shutdowns. But, as a general estimate when we were dealing with a lot of unknowns (and still are), it isn't that far off. Just a strange thing to mock/celebrate in my opinion. The disease is still very serious and the numbers will escalate quickly again if we start re-opening without proper controls.

We are already there. The CDC numbers just aren't up-to-date (as they themselves admit*). Other sources are all past 50k.

*"Data during recent weeks are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes."

1point3 is at 52,478 but 5,365 of those are maybes.  we aren't at 50K confirmed yet.    will likely pass it Sunday.

I'm totally fucking around.  I find all the shit flinging amusing.  I have no idea wtf anything posted the last 3 pages means and have barely looked to be honest.  It's Friday man. I have my first weekend off in a while.  I'm gonna start drinking soon.  I'll post some updates that are 'both sides' appropriate so nobody gets their panties in a wad.

Hope you got some decompression time. I know I did.

According to the Tracking Project’s figures, nearly one in five people who get tested for the coronavirus in the United States is found to have it. In other words, the country has what is called a “test-positivity rate” of nearly 20 percent.

Anybody seeing the latest on this statistic?

nevermind found it, seems to be about 22% now

Record high of new cases today, so states must be ramping up their testing.

lol this antibody number is going to be huge

No it’s not. Unfortunately. If you go by the California and N.Y. studies that have already been put out it’s bad. Hotspots running at 20% positive antibody isn’t good. Rest of NY excluding the hotspots at 4% or whatever it was is very bad. And it seems we can’t really trust the accuracy of these tests yet anyway.

I should have  some interesting antibody numbers in a few days, from San Antonio in a zip code that has a much higher positive rate than the rest of the city. I’m putting my guess on 5ish percent. I could entertain 10. Their cases are looking like they mostly came from spring break trips to Colorado and the spread from the people that brought it back from there. The new death rate being touted from the antibody tests while nowhere near the 3% level thrown around at the beginning of this, is still really bad if this is as infectious as thought.

i mean I get you are a dumbfuck from Minnesota but I don’t think you understand the math or virology.

Now, I’m now firmly in the camp of open this bitch up, because we completely lack the first tool to do that - testing and contact tracing. So does every country in this world outside of  2 or 3 and because of our size, culture, etc it’s not going to happen here. Our next tools are obviously treatment and then vaccine.

in the meantime I will hope the warm weather helps and I will stay (mostly) home while continuing to practice safe habits. I’m not going to go places with crowds and I’m not going to be hugging and shaking hands with people and I’m going to dry my hands out by washing them 19times a day and I promise I will stop touching my face even though I can’t.

so not to go all @Brisketexan here but since I expect mostly the worst of people, I will rely on what I can do and not what other people do or what I am told to do by some county judge or mayor or governor or president.

What we certainly can do is stay the fuck home if we are sick or come into contact with someone who is sick. Since this covid bitch doesn’t show symptoms immediately and can also be asymptotic that’s easier said than done. But let’s blame our neighbor or president or China.

It’s ok to touch your face if your hands are clean.

Never understood why they keep saying face specifically. Don’t they really mean mouth or eyes?   If I touch a contaminated surface, and then scratch my cheek, is it supposed to seep through my skin? Or crawl to my mouth/nose?

It seems like people in Austin are sensing the end of the quarantine is near.  I ran the Town Lake trail yesterday morning and there were groups of runners gathered close together with no masks, in front of an APD car no less, and nobody was giving a fuck. On my neighborhood walks I’m seeing more people gathered for happy hour on front porches who clearly aren’t roommates quarantining together. And I’m noticing a general uptick in traffic on MoPac and across Austin I’m general.
