So with cases going up if deaths don’t go up significantly is that proof that we are dealing with a weaker strain of Covid?   And if it is weakening doesn’t that change how we will treat this pandemic going forward?

There are a lot of shitty outcomes between “asymptomatic” and “dead”.

Also, I’m not sure “weaker strain” is what you actually mean, but I’m no scientist. Are you saying that the virus has mutated or what?

Yes,  it seems to have mutated to a weaker strain therefore less deadly according to a medical journal out of Jerusalem.  People are living in fantasy land if they didn’t think a total shitload of people weren’t going to get Covid.  Question is is it still as deadly?

I mean if it’s not deadly you should just go ahead and catch it, right?

That’s what I thought, and then I started reading this guys twitter and he sounds smart

He thinks that the US will bottom out in deaths on Sunday and begin to rise again next week. The death lag was 7 days early on in the pandemic and now it’s 27 days according to him. Guess we’ll see, something to look at in this saga

No because there’s plenty of evidence it should get stronger in the fall.  So maybe that’s a yes for the short term in places like Chicago and the NE - but in places like Texas it sure as shit isn’t time to relax even further.  You guys have your hands pretty full.  There’s still capacity in ICU’s but the trend is moving the wrong way...

We simply don't know yet. No one does. It may well have mutated to something less severe. It may be primarily hitting younger people now for whom it's not so fatal. The heat might be causing lower viral loads floating in the air. No one can say with any confidence.

What we do know is that the increase in cases among a younger cohort is still resulting in a higher number of people being admitted to the hospital and also a higher number in ICU beds. We also know that there is some evidence, in at least one study, that even some asymptomatic cases show signs of ground glass, which puts into question the issue of permanent lung damage. Finally, we have some indications that the benefits of antibodies against the virus might well be a fleetingly temporary status.

There are still a fuckton of questions about this thing. Go ahead and knock yourself out to see what your personal experiences are, but also know you have zero right to fuck over other people with your infested breath and finger germs.

Good point.  No one should relax but it is interesting where this is headed and I don’t think anyone really knows anything for sure at this point.

I agree with most of your post.  I don’t think anyone should be fucking other people over by not wearing masks, etc.  I keep hearing possible lung damage but the experts thought asymptomatic Pts were just as infectious as other that displayed symptoms but that has changed so no one knows shit.  Like you said we still don’t know anything about where this is headed.

What is his reason for 27 days?

So I guess I don't really need to bother with Dave Blake, PhD's other tweets....have to admire his attempt to push out the "stay tuned for more details" to 27 days in case the death spike doesn't come.  the guy should get into marketing.

Explain. I have zero idea what your post is referring to.

He posted something saying to type in any three digit number followed by new cases into Google. I took the bait and tried various random numbers and all came back as a new case count in some location on some date throughout the world. I don't know what the probability of that is, but it seems unlikely to me. Then again it's a big world with a lot of people so maybe it's legit. Pretty much everything he posts is easily debunked so that's why I assume it's just bullshit.

There are tens of thousands of cities, states and countries in the world. We've been in Covid times for about 100 days. So there are a million plus reporting days on record by now. You're asking if it's a conspiracy that out of those million reporting days we've covered most of the numbers between 100 and 999?

So, what? Our hospital staff is too slammed to keep up with the dashboard data?

anyone have a good link to the number of Hospital beds and ICU capacity in Travis County? Best I can find says 4,817 beds.
https://www.austinchamber.com/economic-development/austin-profile/quality-of-life/healthcare

Nothing on ICU capacity
I don't know about Travis in particular, but DHHS lists the number of available ICU beds in the Austin TSA as 93. Total staffed beds at 3,195 with 742 available. 205 confirmed COVID patients in hospital. I'd imagine the majority of all of those are on Travis County, vast majority in Travis/Williamson/Hays.

Houston TSA is... yikes.

Deaths were updated but the other data seems that way

chickensandwich's update for yesterday:

Deaths 112

6/22: Hp - 173, ICU - 64, Vent - 27

As of right now on the Travis County website:

Deaths: 112

HP-181; ICU-86; Vent-32

So it looks like it's now been updated, and the trend continues the wrong way

Texas numbers weren’t exploding at the time either. Based on your passion for haircuts, as noted above, I was a little surprised by you calling out others for the same “need”. I’m not sure your location would have mattered.

Hmm.. as the epicenter of protests, Minnesota’s numbers have all gone noticeably downward: Deaths, cases, hospitalizations, icu, positivity rate

Testing has gone up some days, as seen after the unrest event. This is from yesterday

so there's no correlation between opening up and positive rate? What's the takeaway here? Did they "open up" differently than Texas, or is it just random whether cases increase or not?

We weren’t as open as Texas was. Hell June 1 was our first day of out door seating at restaurants.. 2 weeks ago we finally opened up indoor restaurants, bars, gyms etc with capacity restrictions .

Texas kinda went full throttle reopen in early May didn’t they?

This obviously means that all the protestors came from out of state and then returned home.
