I got a similar text from a student at Alabama.

It was a way to ask for donations to the alumni association. Those students usually work hours on those kinds of projects for class credit.

It could also be students trying to complete a class project where they need a certain number of survey participants for marketing or communications majors.

Be nice to them and don’t be gross - they’re just trying to get their work done.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer, I mean they could be cam girls looking for sugar daddies, so keep hope alive!

i keep seeing these info about the swabs being terrible but they are the same length as a rapid flu test as far as i know?

so if you have gone to an urgent care center in the last few years that is what they do?

Here was my post about the test. It was nothing like the flu test I'd gotten a day or so earlier

Just got back from there. Couple things...make sure you fill out the form online and talk to a nurse beforehand. They won’t test you if they haven’t approved it ahead of time. Be prepared to wait. Took about an hour and there were only 6 or 7 cars ahead of me when I got there. It hurts. It’s not like a flu test where they stick a little swab up your nose. It’s a full fucking qtip on a sturdy stick. Jammed it hard up into my nostrils, and literally made my head rock back. An hour later and it still feels like somebody poked me in the eyeballs. Maybe the nurse was just a dick, but there’s only one doing the tests so you’ll get her also. 48 hour turn time is what they told me to expect. I’d hit up a minute clinic first to get a flu and strep test before going to the BSW drive thru

Yeah she claimed to get my number from some UT database.

The VIP database has all your info you’ve ever entered in any Ut system. Whether student info or tickets to PAC, athletics applications for any tickets, parent info entered for any student applications, tickets bought through UIL for events on campus, and much more. we got it all and now we’re sending the bots to ask for your money.

Very forward thinking by Fenves and DelConte. They know a shortfall is coming. Start monetizing that data

No one will sign a long term contract since his mask costs about 10 cents to make in the US, but can be made in China for 2 cents. We get what we deserve.

Hit a paywall. Does the article mention why he hasn't just ramped up production and started contacting all the hospitals currently begging for supplies?

If only there was some national defense production piece of legislation that could be utilized in times like these to compel companies to ramp up production of critical materials for a common public good

Yes, as soon as the pandemic is over, US hospitals will go back to using Chinese producers for the bottom line. After ramping up for H1N1, he had to lay off 150 workers and provide for unemployment. They treated him as though he was just expendable.

why does his customer have to sign a long term contract?  If the customer wants x number in y days at z price he can just tell them I can do it but they are NCNR. He could even say pay in advance.

sure its not a long term contract but its revenue/sales.

You can fund the GRHorn Memorial Gambling Casino for the Insane. They probably already have the spot picked out.

Because he doesn't want to gear up for this pandemic, and then have to fire everyone when it's over, as he was forced to do after H1N1.

Tell me more about the death threat.

Ok. It's deathwishing, really. You melted down on this thread last Wednesday. First you showed up and declared 50,000 people would be dead in the US ahead of 4/15, got condescending quickly when others offered other possibilities due to the measures being taken around the country, namecalling and predictable back and forth with "no, I'm right and you suck!" with "no, you suck, and your prediction shit is all retarded!", etc.

You left the thread for awhile a bit later that day. Then you come back below in the evening, probably after getting a pretty mean drunk on.

Now Jimmy, that’s a harsh, emotional thing to say to someone who has been your comrade on the boards for so long. I’m hurt. You all but slapped with your silk gloves with this last post.

That said, don’t sweat it. I’ll keep the count up daily through the 15th and we’ll see how close you get to your target. Like I said, you’re off to a rip-roaring start. You’re just going to need some carnage somewhere else besides the tri-state area in order to get close, so I’m sure you and yours will be rooting hard for Louisiana, Michigan, and Illinois to continue with their flare-ups.

Then you wrote this:

"4/1/2020 at 8:42 PM, jimmyjazz said:

Well, tell me where you live and I'll tell you where I'm rooting for a flare-up."

Which I quoted in a response mentioning that, at least now, we've seen your true character.

Now, here today, you've attempted to act as though I made it up, because you sobered up at some point, and I guess embarrassed, deleted the original post. Nothing you can do about me having quoted it ahead of that though. So you wish death on someone, then sneak back and delete it, and then show back up to deny it and play stupid about it. That's who you are.

These requests should specifically be for the student emergency relief fund for covid related expenses. The presidents office already lined up some big matching donations. I believe we also secured some laptops from Dell to give to any student who had inadequate computing for distance learning. Something like 1100 students submitted requests. It was quite the emergency purchase order and was prioritized by dell which was nice. The response from the longhorn alumni and friend network has been incredible overall.

I didn't delete anything,  you pathological stain.  If the post isn't there, then blame the mods.

Regardless, it's not a threat -- this might come as a shock to you, but I don't have the power to direct coronavirus flareups.

The rest of your spew is worth exactly what I paid for it.  Do the math.  Oh wait, you're not very good at math.  LMAO.

he'd have to gear up regardless as I am assuming his factory is running 95+% efficiency for an 8 hour work day 7 days a week.  he could ask workers if they want to work overtime and build that into his price. sure he couldnt go 24/7 without hiring.   look I am no fan of china and buying chinese but his company isn't built to adjust for a pandemic response and not have to lay people off after.

The hospitals must not be that desperate or there must be other ways of getting the masks.

can he hire people on contract?

Hi GRHorn. My name is Sarah and I'm a student at UT Austin. I've moved back home since classes moved online and am doing remote learning.  Its been a real adjustment but I'm still glad to be connected to my classmates and faculty. Can I share how Longhorns are helping UT students impacted by the COVID-19 crisis?

what’s the scam angle here?

I’m open to letting her make $14 the hard way

I'm not claiming there aren't ways he might be able to make it work.

Just quoting the article-- he doesn't want to.  He doesn't want to go to the effort without guarantees of long-term contracts.  That's his choice to make.

If the hospitals and other customers want the product, he's told them how to get it.  If they don't want to sign long-term contracts, then presumably they have other avenues to purchase these products.

Maybe. The guy's been negging me for weeks without offering his own comments here, so I went to his profile and negged him for 5 minutes. Seeing him whine about it now is refreshing. Petty? Sure. Mentally ill? I don't think so, but let's check back after a few months of lockdown. At some point, we'll all go crazy.

Yeah, but I did have two co-workers come back from China in February after having the 'flu" while they were there.

Why not?  Does he not like money?

There are so many people out of work now that would be happy with a temporary gig.  And when things go back to normal they can go back to their old jobs.

Is it still hard to get tested? I know someone who just got sick and does not have coronavirus symptoms (weakness but maybe no fever). I told her to go get tested for the flu and to stay away from ibuprofen and her friends and family (and some other basic stuff). I assume she won't qualify for testing, but wasn't sure if I am correct.

Apparently to make surgical masks run the machinery, and keep the workplace as clean as possible actually takes several weeks of training to become efficient. It's amazing to think that just any old peasant that can fog a mirror can come right in and pick it up in the first 10 minutes. It isn't exactly ditch digging. Believe it or not some business owners really give a shit, and shitcanning employees really weighs on them mentally. Especially Mom and Pop type operations where you deal with each employee on a regular basis. You get to know them, hear about their families, sometimes you even develop a friendship. I've had to do it, and it was agonizing. All parties involved were shedding tears over the situation.
