Now see what I don't get is why the same thinking isn't applied to businesses. If they aren't expected to operate in such a way that they can handle a few months without income, why in the fuck do we hold individuals with families and children to higher standards?

So....really good fucking question.  Businesses are Gods, to be worshiped at the altar of capitalism....but they can't meet the basic fucking standard of prudence we apply to individuals.  "Corporations are people, my friend."  Then fuck 'em, they should have socked away some money for a rainy day.

Quote

Businesses already got a gargantuan tax cut that doesn't roll back in a couple years and they put every penny into buying back stocks and laying off employees to push stock prices higher and higher. They didn't save responsibly or invest it into something useful for a future emergency. So why do they get massive bailouts but the american people dont?

Because trickle-down is a fucking lie.  It's not slightly off, it's not "well, it isn't perfectly efficient," it's a fucking lie.  Any giveaway or tax break to businesses absolutely MUST be tied to the kind of activities that the trickle-down theory says will happen.  Use $5 million in tax savings to add $5 million in payroll?  Then that tax cut applies, and you can keep it.  And if you receive ANY federal bailout money, do what Mark Cuban says -- you can never do a stock buyback.  EVER (maybe I'd give them a way to do so -- pay back the entire amount of the bailout, with interest).

if i did a drinking game during these daily press conferences, i think i would be dead

My local brewery thinks I'm just supporting them during these tough times. I told them today I'm playing the Trump drinking game during the press conferences & he just laughed & said he might have to ramp up production if everyone's playing along.

You can quit for a variety of reasons and still collect unemployment benefits.

Leaving to care for kids (who are no longer in school) is one.

Any change to your job duties or work hours (sounds like your case) is another.

Facts aren’t welcome here.

Accidentally posted something meant for here in the DT thread.  Hope I don't get my peepee whacked even though I edited it out in like 5 minutes.

post it here. I love the back and forth. Plus bored as shit so the two threads are fun.

I know that, his past posts said he was in food management at a restaurant IIRC.
Why is NYC the epicenter?  Not talking about whether it is or not, I'm interested in why he thinks it has developed into the epicenter if he has any ideas on why it is or has become that.

The answer is obvious, and you're not that stupid, so what are you getting at?

Since Miss Lindsey is the mouthpiece for this new talking point about UI, I checked out South Carolina’s UI eligibility requirements.

Now, there’s wiggle room there with the “good cause” bit but anyone who has ever tried to file for UI - at least in a red state - can probably guess how a claim is going to go under this “I’m gonna quit because I’ll make more at home” scenario.

Claims are usually verified with the last employer so if an employee quits just to collect more money under UI, I don’t see any employer lying to the state government to back up an employee’s story.

And I cannot see any state agency accepting that as a good reason.

It’s a bullshit made up fantasy like Welfare Queens. A very small percentage of workers would try it and tossing out something so beneficial and needed over a rich white man’s idea of how working people might behave is very on brand for the GOP.

Meanwhile, this pandemic is important enough for Paxton to outlaw abortions, but not important enough for DMV employees to stay at home.  According to Paxton, local governmental entities have no authority to prevent state employees from going to work.

First off, he's wrong--home-rule cities have full powers of self-government except as may be limited by the Legislature (not by the AG).  Included in those powers of self-government are police powers to protect the health, safety, and welfare of their citizens.

Second, state workers ought to take this as an opportunity to undertake a #GeneralStrike.  This is bullshit.

Third, the GOP is really, really trying to make clear to everyone that it doesn't give a fuck whether people live or die.  They just care about their power.  And if they govern naught but the ashes, then so be it.

America has the worst food for you in the world, and a whole lot of it. Its why even young people will die here as opposed to other places. Not the very young though thankfully because most of them haven’t been exposed to it long enough. Maybe this will cause that to change.

I alluded to it up thread, after that initial post you quoted.

One specific thing is the pros and cons of public transportation with an insidious virus that is spreadable but not easily detected, asymptomatic, for days before it shows itself.  People on that said public transportation didn't/don't have  a chance or a choice since many don't have/need cars but still need to get to work.  You take the pros and cons when you decide to live in NYC like anywhere else.  I wanted to see if he has come to grips, self acknowledged, with that blessing/curse.

I had the chance to move to the Boston area for work and declined, had the chance to move to San Jose in a different scenario and declined(looking back the San Jose thing might have been really really good.  DFW is fine though.

And the experience even if you survive can be pretty horrible. Like terrifyingly near death experience because you can barely breathe.

There's not nearly enough talk about what happens to people who fall between asymptomatic and those who die. I feel the reporting has been too focused on numbers and statistics without drawing a picture of just how bad this is.

I just googled covid patient description and got this from Propublica quoting a respiratory specialist in Louisiana:

“I have patients in their early 40s and, yeah, I was kind of shocked. I’m seeing people who look relatively healthy with a minimal health history, and they are completely wiped out, like they’ve been hit by a truck. This is knocking out what should be perfectly fit, healthy people. Patients will be on minimal support, on a little bit of oxygen, and then all of a sudden, they go into complete respiratory arrest, shut down and can’t breathe at all.”

“It first struck me how different it was when I saw my first coronavirus patient go bad. I was like, Holy shit, this is not the flu. Watching this relatively young guy, gasping for air, pink frothy secretions coming out of his tube and out of his mouth. The ventilator should have been doing the work of breathing but he was still gasping for air, moving his mouth, moving his body, struggling. We had to restrain him. With all the coronavirus patients, we’ve had to restrain them. They really hyperventilate, really struggle to breathe. When you’re in that mindstate of struggling to breathe and delirious with fever, you don’t know when someone is trying to help you, so you’ll try to rip the breathing tube out because you feel it is choking you, but you are drowning.

“When someone has an infection, I’m used to seeing the normal colors you’d associate with it: greens and yellows. The coronavirus patients with ARDS have been having a lot of secretions that are actually pink because they’re filled with blood cells that are leaking into their airways. They are essentially drowning in their own blood and fluids because their lungs are so full. So we’re constantly having to suction out the secretions every time we go into their rooms.”

I do not want to catch this.

“Before this, we were all joking. It’s grim humor. If you are exposed to the virus and test positive and go on quarantine, you get paid. We were all joking: I want to get the coronavirus because then I get a paid vacation from work. And once I saw these patients with it, I was like, Holy shit, I do not want to catch this and I don’t want Soanyone I know to catch this.

So if Mexico pays for the wall will Alabama be saved from the Coronavirus? Because I think that’s what Trump is trying to tell us.

Oh and the only way we save the country and economy is to test as much as possible so we can have data to you know, actually do something about it. But of course trump thinks that’s ridiculous and apparently won’t allow it. Those South Koreans are just slanted eyed idiots in trump world.

You don’t have to test 350 million people you orange tanned dipshit. You do have to test a significant amount to get a statistically relevant sample so you know where the problem is, you orange tanned dipshit.

Didn’t Manafort and the Russians explain this to you when they told you how they were gonna win (steal) the presidency for you? They probably did. But like everything else you didn’t understand that either. Because you are an orange tanned dipshit.

He's just fucking evil, can we leave it at that?  There's no fucking arguing the point.  American dying in a flood of their own leaking blood cells, doctors can't even get to them all, and Trump is "happy with the job we're doing, that I can tell you."

He's happy with a performance metric of "Americans drowning in their own frothy blood because the pandemic has overwhelmed our hospitals." Fuck that evil piece of shit, and fuck every.  single.  fucker.  who supports him.  Volunteer to die in your own frothy blood, fuckers -- because that's SUCCESS on the Trump scale.

It's so old to say, but he still keeps beating his old marks: Can anyone imagine any president of any party behaving and speaking in this way?

We're so lucky to have him and the evil media wants to distort that truth with fake news.

Every minute this lunatic remains in office is a condemnation of this entire country. All of us bear the shame, particularly the idiots who are proud of this ambulatory POS.
