On behalf of Robertson, probably coined phrase "go in dry for your salvation"..?

Anyway, we should get optimus to fight this pandemic, it would be over soon...

I have a co worker in rural Arkansas. His county has zero test kits. He’s on lock down because of an outage in Kansas running with zero precautions. They had at least 12 workers leave sick. Zero follow up if they tested positive

Did you watch the video, from yesterday on the link?  If the map of traveling >2 miles is correct, out yesterday from google data IIRC,  then the NYC area is not traveling much beyond 2 miles.  Is it unreasonable to walk <2 miles to stay off the subway?

Seems like the city, county, state,  the hospitals, the vacant hotels, etc should find a way to get the few thousand necessary hospital workers to work and shut down the mass transit.  Or run  more trains with better distancing and other ways to make it safe.  Same/same not thinking outside the box is not working.  Look at the numbers.

Yep, an idiot.  Is NYC one of the shining beacons of health during this crisis?  Making excuses to keep it open, doing same/same when it is clearly not working seems like idiocy to me.

Quote

A plane has five passengers on board: Donald Trump, the Pope, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Hillary Clinton, and a ten year old school girl. The plane is about to crash and there is only four parachutes.
Dr Fauci, said “I need one, I have to help develop a cure for the global health crisis that is COVID19!” He straps on a parachute and jumps.
The pope said “I need one, I have to help spiritually guide people through the global health crisis that is COVID19!” He takes one and jumps.
Hillary said ‘‘I need one, I’m the smartest woman in the United States.” she takes one and jumps.
President Trump pauses for a moment and then turns to the 10-year-old. After a deep sigh, he says tenderly, "You can have the last parachute. I've lived my life, yours is only starting". The child replies, "Don’t worry, there are two parachutes left. The smartest woman in the United States took my school backpack.

I saw this in the Fox News comments section for the Bill Gates story. These Trumpkins live in a fantasy world. Let me rewrite it to be a closer to how I feel about these folks.

A plane has five passengers on board: Donald Trump, the Pope, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Hillary Clinton, and a ten year old school girl. The plane is about to crash and there is only four parachutes.

Hillary reacts first and goes for a parachute. Trump shoves her aside and says "I know these parachutes better than anyone" and selects the one he considers the best for him and hands Fauci, The pope and the little girl a parachute to make sure Hillary does not get one. The little girl confused knows that Trump just handed her her backpack. Fauci states that there may be a danger of getting shredded in the jet engine if they jump. Trump pushes the Pope and Fauci out of the plane first to make sure it is safe to jump since he is being tender and does not want to push the little girl out too, then he jumps. Hillary tells the girl ‘‘I need one, I’m the smartest woman in the United States.” she takes the backpack and jumps. The girl comely puts on the remaining parachute and says. "No wonder my parents hated the last election both choices sucked" then she jumps.

Cool.
So, how are the health care workers there supposed to get to work?

HOA Karen gonna have a fit in the burbs if the trash don't get picked up, but the folks that rely on mass transit in a city of over 300 square miles of land (not including outlying areas where it's more affordable) made "poor decisions to live and work there".

That being said, NYC metro agencies really need to get on people on the subway if they aren't at least attempting to physically distance themselves as much as possible. That poor bus driver in (Chicago?) that died after complaining about sick people not covering their faces when out in public had a very real complaint.

Now wait a minute zork, I thought your problem was that the trains were running at all. Isn't that what your posts have been about? How exactly do we both stop the trains AND run more trains? Or is it just these particular trains that you a problem with? Maybe post better if you want people to not think you an idiot.

I put you on ignore after you said you put me there.  I still read some of the ignored posts.

Why is NYC an outlier?  Doesn't it seem obvious one of the reasons is the very little actual change in their mass transit strategy?  Listen to the lady who is running MTA.  Not hearing much about extra cleaning, distancing, or anything new, etc.  Why?

The councilman on your video suggested asking retired drivers to return to service or run more trains, but the interim President (the lady) said that was difficult because of people being out sick right now. It's what is going on in a lot of places right now with police and fire fighters as well. They are attempting to use PR she was saying, and as far as the cleaning, that would be something for a different segment--this one was on overcrowding. She did say that it was isolated and they were urging people to wait for the next bus or train. If their bosses don't fire them for being late, then perhaps that could work. This is a difficult situation, but I suspect that you and I both are Dunning-Krugering it and there are things we don't know. Or at least I know I don't know. Are you an urban mass transit specialist? I apologize if you are and I am being insulting to your expertise.

Which comment included the fact that I am most disturbed by the inaction regarding materiel, which has little to do with the course of the disease.  I don't think the full impact of that has hit yet.  And we may get lucky.

He also called out pelosi and de Blasio for trying to downplay it for their own personal benefit in the early stages.

That's an old joke (Not kidding: I first hear this as Henry Kissinger being the Smartest Man in the World) and a little too tedious.  Having said that, it surprises me (or maybe it doesn't) that the girl wasn't Greta Thunberg.  Could dragged her in there, too.

Sometimes lost in the conversation around Trump being unprepared for this is the fact that there is still no plan to get us out of this nightmare.

The simple answer is Trump spends his time thinking of ways to not be blamed, not to helping anyone.

Hire more people to stand at the doors and limit the amount of people per train.  Hire all the bartenders, restaurant workers, whomever laid off, to help keep people distanced.  Clean the trains every hour, again with people hired up from those laid off.

No way the US government allows peaceful secession. But thanks for presenting Russian strategic wet dreams as a reasonable option.

The Russian campaign has been an outright success.   45% of the population is never going to support a functioning federal government.  Damage is done. You can't put the shit back in the horse.

Russia will also have it worse in the end.  It will have 4 or 5 formerly US entities doing mostly the same things that the old US did. 2 or 3 of those entities will be even more integrated with Western Europe and Canada.  It won't work out well for Russia.

The US gov't won't have much choice if states representing more than half the population want out.  You think soldiers are going to take up arms against their home states?  You also forget the South has always wanted out, and Texas has off an on feelings about independence too. Nobody is going to fight it. States will drop out like dominoes once the first one does. This ain't a new civil war.  Its the end of the last one. States rights won in the end. At least the North hung on long enough to end slavery for good.

Probably not on this pendulum swing, but on the next, they will want out, just like the last.

Still fat and happy too. Just wait. Great Depression 2.0 hasn't even really gotten started yet. Poor people don't revolt. Hungry people do.

Here is how you contact Ms. Feinberg, the woman in the video.

I still disagree with you about the people living there making a poor decision. I believe I understand your line of thought, but I disagree. There are trade-offs with our choices in life and sure, during this pandemic, it is hitting them pretty hard for a variety of reasons. However, life has a lot of unintended consequences and most people just do the best they can. I'm sure there was a fellow working in a pizza parlor in NYC during the Harvey flooding that was thinking likewise of the folks here. It didn't help then and it isn't very helpful now.

Again, who do you think is going to do the fighting?  States with strong economic ties with one another will stay together. So lets say NY/NJ/CT/RI/MA decide they are done. Who is the US going to send in?  What if its CA/OR/WA?

Most of the middle of the country don't even consider the coasts "real" America. And even Trumpists in NY state want nothing to do with the Deep South. Nobody really wants to keep it together. Some, like you, just haven't figured that out yet.

The GOP platform, other than abortion, is practically state independence and zero FIT.  So the other option is to just let them end the federal income tax and federal social welfare programs, pack the scotus enough to allow restrictions on travel between the states, and you have de facto dissolution.

Zork is just mad he didn't move to San Diego out of fear.  Now he's "just fine" in DFW.  He doesn't even like his lifestyle.  Other people don't make lifelong choices to bunker because a 100 year event may or may not happen.

And we’ll deserve it. We’re getting what’s coming to us. The wages of sin is death. We’ve chosen to worship at the altar of individualism at the expense of everything else, and on that altar we placed a golden (Orange) idol. This is EXACTLY how that approach to life ends.

I'm/We're doing ok so far.  WFH and kids SFH.  One of the Renters coming due is apparently going to move out as expected at the end of the month.  Might sell one of the properties since values are going nuts all around here.

DFW IS fine.  Fine is fine to me.  BTW, it was San Jose, not San Diego.  From what I understand you don't want to move from DFW to San Jose unless they can guarantee a yuge increase in pay/benefits to equal the differences in COL.  We never got that far into the negotiations as lots of family are from around here and it would have meant getting licenses in CA that were already in place in Texas.

Have used the DFW, sometimes connecting through AUS or Houston to get to the San Jose and SF airports to jump out there to see Yosemite, the Redwoods all over NorCal, and Monterray/Carmel/Hearst Castle over the years.  Great place to visit.
