CR: COVID-19 --Political Talk

Just received the Covid 19 vaccine requirement notification yesterday. Took a little under 5 minutes to upload my vaccine card and verify that I am vaccinated.

On a staff call this morning, one person located in DFW asked about the notification and the meaning of disciplinary action if they refuse to take any action because the governor of Texas said they didn't need to abide by the mandate.

I reread the notice and said "well, there is a medical and religious exemption form you can apply for if you are unable to get the vaccine and you have a little over a month to fill it out."

DFW person "what if I refuse to do anything with the mandate? Will there be disciplinary action?"

Me, in a diplomatic way "Well you can fuck around and find out or just fill out the forms."

I would have added "Remember, Texas is a "right to work" state (which actually means "right to get fired for no actual provided reason"), so you should keep that little nugget of information tucked away in the back of your head.

Just got my 5 year old twins scheduled for the vaccine for next Saturday, Nov 6th

Halloween night, lots of parents discussing how nice it was to do Halloween again, while asking each other if they heard about any places with available vaccine dates.  Felt like we were all talking about drugs.

And of course, Qanon sis-in-law came by to see the kids' costumes, and asked if they were getting vaccinated, and both kids yelled out "YES" and sis-in-law lost her shit on our front lawn and was in tears that we were "harming her nieces and nephews".

kind of interested in seeing their response to the list of vaccines...

He avoided the question & his parroting idiot friends rolled back to "It should still be the parent's choice" (which was nothing I had even said was in dispute).

The next (someone else from our high school) guy threw out some gibberish from the bible about a "Millstone", which [again] was not relevant.

Same here.  Our company is a government contractor so vaccines mandated.  We had a U.S. wide call regarding it a few Mondays ago (after a couple of months of electronic information).

U. S. Employees have until December 8 to upload vaccine proof.  If it isn't done by then, violator automatically goes on unpaid leave.  If it isn't done by December 22; terminated.

The ONLY objectors I know of are in Texas, Florida and Oklahoma.  Oh well....FAFO.

We have a new guy here at work and at lunch yesterday I told the group that I had gotten the Moderna booster because I initially got the J&J vaccine. The moderna booster gives me a better shot at producing more antibodies. I then make the remark that our company should just make it mandatory and stop pussy footing around. He tells us that's ridiculous, that he's never gotten a flu vaccine and he doesn't want this vaccine either. I asked him so what happens when you keep getting Covid and it finally happens while you have a cold or the flu at the same time and you get pneumonia, then you fucking lay in a hospital bed wasting away until you die? He said that's my choice. We changed the subject pretty fast but his entire problem with this whole ordeal is somebody telling him what to do or making it mandatory. Those vaccines for children that have virtually wiped out all sorts of terrible shit are proof that fucking vaccines work. Why are people so god damn stupid?

Yes, this is really about being told what to do. People like freedom, and they don't really care if that freedom kills a lot of people and creates a lot of misery.

But at the same time, when a private company puts in rules to provide a safe work environment, they bitch and complain, because they realize they don't have as much sovereignty as they'd like to have.

I hope you understand that there's a non-zero chance she might try to kidnap your kids.

Wife and I have had that conversation.

Thankfully said in-law (mostly) lives a few doors down from another niece and nephew (she's living in her dad and stepmom's backyard and a sibling is a few doors down) and that sibling is even more in her face about vaccines and not fucking around.  He has made it clear to her that his kids are getting vaccinated.  He does not allow her to be around his kids without a mask.  He does not allow his kids in the yard unless he or his wife are there, because he's concerned that she might do something stupid.

I'm honestly surprised more Qanon types aren't trying to kidnap the children of their relatives.  Every accusation is a confession and all.

There's a bad moon on the rise.

https://www.cpr.org/2021/11/03/colorado-hospital-capacity-covid-hospitalizations-patient-transfer/

There are now more than 1,200 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Colorado. That’s the most since December, as the highly contagious delta variant continues to spread aggressively through the state’s unvaccinated population. For weeks, roughly 80 percent of those hospitalized with coronavirus have been unvaccinated, and nearly 40 percent of hospitals anticipate being short-staffed during the next week.

The CHTC was re-activated in August as COVID-19 hospitalizations were starting to grow again in Colorado – a trend that has continued, putting what the CHA calls “monumental strain” on the state’s health care system.

Physicians working in that system said the move is not unexpected.

“I'm not surprised,” said Dr. Don Stader, an emergency medicine doctor at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood. He said those working in hospitals have been watching as conditions have been deteriorating for months, especially due to high levels of coronavirus patients.

“It's been extremely difficult working in emergency departments of hospitals over the last several months. I think while most people believe that the COVID pandemic is coming to an end, or at least at a status quo, I'll say in hospitals, we're experiencing a significant acceleration of the amount of sick people we're seeing from COVID along with just increasing numbers of other medical diseases.”

Making matters more precarious, a severe staffing pinch.

“We're dealing with a staff crunch where many physicians, especially nurses and others have left the field just because of the pressures and that burnout associated with what the last few years have been like,” Stader said.

Stader said finding a hospital to take a patient has become harder than ever.

“I've heard horror stories, and I've been a part of some of these where you have a patient that is critically ill and needs to be admitted to the hospital,” he said. “You're just trying to find a hospital that has the capability and the skills to care for the patient. And oftentimes you're calling 10 different hospitals just to try to get them on a bed and to get an accepting facility because all the facilities are full.”

Tad-y said transfers from the CHTC are done through a “data-driven process.” That ensures patients can get access to the necessary level of care, while hospitals make the most efficient use of the health care system and protect access to care for as many people as possible.

She added a busy flu season could complicate the picture considerably.

“We are on the cusp of the flu season as well. And that will only add additional pressure to our health systems that we're facing,” Tad-y said.

Please, please, please tell me a majority of this is in Tits and Guns district...

Looks like it's in the general Denver area.   But if it's blowing up there it's only a matter of time before it moves to places like Rifle where Lauren can explain away why the hospitals are overrun.

Texas GOP chair Allen West involved in physical altercation at Dallas airport over mask, campaign says

Republican Party of Texas chairman and 2022 gubernatorial hopeful Allen West was involved in a physical altercation at the Dallas Fort-Worth International Airport Wednesday. The incident allegedly stemmed from West's refusal to wear a mask on the premises, according to a press release from his campaign.

The statement alleges the GOP candidate was approached by a man who yelled at him for not wearing a mask. West allegedly responded by "flicking" the man's mask off. The man responded by raising his fists at West, per the statement. West took to Twitter afterward to provide his own account of the incident, saying the man called him an "idiot." West said he pulled down the man's mask and said "see, nothing happened."

"This morning at the airport a man starts yelling at me and tells me to put my mask on and calls me an idiot," West tweeted. "I walked over to him and asked if he called me an idiot, he continued to yell at me. I pulled down his mask and said see nothing happened."

West continued, saying "He put up his fists and I walked away. I did call him a stupid man. I have spoken to DFW PD. Theres' no mask law, nothing has ever passed in the US House and Senate making wearing a mask law."

Airport police have filed a report on the incident, according to the press release. DFW Airport Department of Public Safety Headquarters offered no comment and calls to their media requests division went unanswered as of this writing.

The Transportation Security Administration currently has a federal requirement stipulating travelers wear masks across all transportation networks in the U.S., including commercial flights, buses and trains through Jan. 18, 2022. The Centers for Disease Control has also recommended unvaccinated individuals wear masks indoor in public spaces to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

West, who is unvaccinated, was hospitalized for COVID-related pneumonia last month. He has pushed the use of unproven therapies for the virus, including hydroxycholoroquine and ivermectin — which are used to treat roundworm infections and other parasites. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has strongly cautioned against the use of both treatments after finding they have no benefit for decreasing the likelihood of death or speeding recovery from COVID-19, and can be misused to dangerous effect.
