Truth. He was way more than just a basketball player.

So intelligent, so curious, so thirsty for knowledge. For those who didn't catch this (and it happened just a week or two ago), Kobe introduced himself to Luka Doncic in a classically Kobe manner. Doncic was playing in a game, about to take the ball for an inbounds pass, when he heard someone speaking Slovenian to him from the stands. He turned around and it was Kobe Bryant.

Love him or hate him, he was one of a kind, and those knew him will remember him as so much more than just a basketball player. He was a genuinely special person, flaws, mistakes and all. RIP Kobe.

He famously never really fit in in an NBA locker room. Phil Jackson wrote in his book that he had to basically force Kobe to talk about girls and cars to relate to his teammates, when all he wanted to talk about was art, history, philosophy, etc.

Rick Fox is not dead. The Ex-Laker was not on board the helicopter that killed Kobe Bryant in Calabasas, California, on January 26.

Fox’s daughter confirmed to WEEI’s Courtney Fallon that the Canadian-born former NBA star was alive. NBA TV’s Jared Greenberg also tweeted that he had communicated with Fox via text in the aftermath of the crash that killed Kobe.

It seems as if Gianna has been confirmed on the helicopter at minimum. They were headed to Mamba academy for practice

My best friend works there and has for a few years.  The President of the company may have been on board.

first learned of it when logging onto Surly about 20 mins ago with the red banner.

So sad he won't be able to give a HOF speech.

Lakers next game is at home vs. the Clippers, on TNT.  Pregame is a must see.

He'll be inducted at the very next opportunity - sucks that it will be posthumously.

that tailspin is insane. fuck.......

That’s not a tail spin. What that tweet is saying is that the helicopter was not flying on instruments and instead on visual. Basically they stopped because of weather and circled waiting for it to pass. Once the pilot felt comfortable they continued on, but then crashed.
