Would like to see Herman ask CDC to lower his 12mos salary even more than this new adjustment calls for with the agreement that the additional savings is spread out among his assistant coaches.

(For example set up a pool of $500-600k that could be used to pay each assistant $50-60k over next 12mos to help offset their new adjusted 12mos salaries)

Fyi... Info on regular salaries for TEXAS coaches prior to this new adjustment

Here’s a breakdown of Texas’ assistant coaching annual salaries (and remaining contract years):

  • Mike Yurcich, offensive coordinator, $1.7 million (three - through 2022 season)
  • Chris Ash, defensive coordinator, $800,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Jay Boulware, tight ends coach/special teams coordinator, $700,000 (three - through 2022 season)
  • Herb Hand, offensive line, $700,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Stan Drayton, running backs, $650,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Coleman Hutzler, linebackers, $600,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Mark Hagen, defensive tackles, $550,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Yancy McKnight, strength coach, $510,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Oscar Giles, defensive ends, $400,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Andre Coleman, receivers, $350,000 (year to year)
  • Jay Valai, cornerbacks, $300,000 (two - through 2021 season)

Tom Herman is set to earn $6 million in 2020; $6.25 million in 2021; $6.5 million in 2022; and $6.75 million in 2023.

it sucks when anyone loses their job but its completely the departments fault they are so bloated.  I'm surprised its not more than 35.  the university might want to rethink its financial models for employee pay and pensions moving forward...

It sucks that they're losing their jobs but on the flip side many were employed when they never should have been, some for years.

Because fuck being proactive and fiscally responsible. It's not like anyone could have anticipated this budget crisis four or five months ago, right?

Let's go ahead and lay off as many people as we can as soon as we can rather than wait for better information and try to limit the damage as much as possible because fuck people, right?

No dumbass, let's take necessary steps to mitigate a budget crisis that everyone has seen coming for months. Layoffs could be prevented if those at the top contributed to cost mitigation early one. If CDC, Tom and Shaka agreed to 20% cuts 90 days ago, how many people's jobs who make a tad less than those guys could be saved? So, yes, those guys are saying fuck people our seven figure income is more important.

Like you think they just came up with this plan yesterday?

All total, Alabama assistants will make more than $1.2 million than it did in 2019, according to AL.com.

  • Steve Sarkisian: $850k increase ($2.5 million)
  • Pete Golding: $125k increase ($1.225 million)
  • Jeff Banks: $183k increase ($725k)
  • Holmon Wiggins: $25k increase ($475k)
  • Charles Huff: $25k increase ($550k)
  • Sal Sunseri: $25k increase ($675k)
  • Karl Scott: $25k increase ($550k)

Must not be any $$ issues in Tuscaloosa.

They are just cutting education costs to compensate

All true, but university administrators have to take a bunch of the blame themselves.  Over the past 25 years tuition at all schools have skyrocketed relative to inflation, not just Texas publics.  Other states' publics and privates everywhere.  Why is that???

And, yes, CDC is doing an excellent job overall.

That question can be easily answered with a bottle of bourbon and hours of reading.  I don’t know that I’d use the word “blame” there, but that’s just me and my research.

Regardless, yes, CDC is doing a fantastic job.
