Yeah the osu game was rough, 4 errors with 2 by freshman pitchers.  Just for once it’d be nice to start the season hot, but...

Our preseason PoY pitcher had some real shaky moments to open that let them gain momentum, not sure why we threw him to the fire as GCU had a wild packed home crowd and are contenders in their league.  On top of that our catcher was not impressive, at all, so I’m hoping Josh saw something in the off-season because otherwise he was a mess.  Also the GCU starter looked pretty good and was settled in immediately, unlike our freshman who couldn’t get control and a catcher not on the same page.

Our approach at the plate looked a lot better, there were four or five times the cover was knocked off the ball just directly at the defenders, whereas GCU had 2-3 key hits drop perfectly in no mans land with RISP.  They came to play, we didn’t...not even gonna complain that the umps strike zone moved around a lot the first two innings.

Holliday teams start slow as he experiments, I thought throwing a frosh P out there in a hostile atmosphere night opener wasn’t smart...but the lights tend to come on when it really counts and I was impressed at our plate approach the first 1/3 and last 1/3 of the game.  Here’s hoping we take the next two but I won’t be surprised if it’s another wild ride in noncon until the team gels.

Tech beats Houston Baptist, 5-1

And now I know that Houston Baptist has a baseball team

they've been DI for 12 years.  Southland Conference; but yes, this was the first time they and Tech have ever played; which is pretty surprising given their location and Tuesday scheduling and whatnot.

losing records in the Big XII the past 2 seasons really bear that out, eh?

Not saying they suck, but wholly fuck that post is untrue/ certainly not proven.

Amended  original post - imo.

TCU recently beset by injuries and recruiting to a private school,  but really like Schloss,  Saarloos, and Moisello.   Check their bios - imo,  edges out the Tech staff.

So does Tech have the best staff in the B12 in your opinion? If not, who does? And why?

I do believe the results support saying Tech has the best staff currently in the Big XII, yes.

18 MLB draftees in the past 2 seasons and CWS appearances in 2 of the past 3 campaigns( 3 of the past 5, ) and 3 of the past 4 Big XII Reg Season titles going to Lubbock somewhat cement that notion, wouldn't ya say?

I make an effort not to reply to everything "Tech this" or "Tech that," but you asked.  To clarify, I also did not say Schlossnagle & CO were not good.  The statement by the other poster just screamed for a comment, however.

Touting Polls is for losers.  They are discussion/ click drivers and that's it.  Being #1 or #24 in the polls matters not, especially in freaking February.

Play the schedule and win the games.  This ain't D-1 football.

Yeah I feel like every year I watch preseason ranking and/or expectations get tempered as Josh messes with the lineup, Walton throws freshmen to the fire, our hitting is terrible, and we strikeout at a maddening pace.  Then most years things settle in nicely by conference play and peaking heading into postseason...it seems to work often enough and there’s a lot of new faces this year.

Suits me as I think college baseball has the best playoff system in sports.
