SurlyHorns Coronavirus contingency plan

Shit's gettin' real, yo. Traffic in Bada Bing is getting brisk, with the Coronavirus and stock market threads running particularly hot.

Can this board handle the girth? So many of us use SurlyHorns for all of our news and life advice. Would be a shame if this board crashed when we need it most.

If only there were some way to host a site on virtually infinitely scalable infrastructure...

It's got copies on all the major cloud providers. A VPC and we are signed already on a second datacenter in Dallas, however we were installing hardware next weekend.

Surly will be able to take the thick girth of the coronavirus and the length as well.

Furk yeah, what's the failover pattern? Or is it all active/active/active with replication?

no DNS is managed by google, in the event that we needed to go to the cloud I can have a DB restored and running with a full stack in less than 10 minutes - TTL on DNS is 15 minutes IIRC so by the time DNS flips site would be good to go :)

if DC dies I don't have anything auto-managing the DNS, but that's mainly on purpose as split brain would be a super pain in the ass with the site and not worth it vs just taking 5-10 min of downtime.

Checking in to say, "thank you" to the board mods. We made it through the worst and no crash. Got some "thread fragmentation" going in Bada Bing, but it's hardly a problem.

Also props to the non-CR posters. With a few exceptions the discourse has been informative and uplifting. And often irreverent.
