If you got an Audi, I think you'll be alright.

Aren't they basically the same car (assuming Audi SUV)?  I had a 14 GTS (loved it) and wife has a 19 turbo.  No problems on the turbo so far other than her hitting every fucking curb imaginable.  Had to take the 14 in twice because it did this weird thing where it would stay in second gear too long.  It was under warranty so not sure of the cost but seemed like an easy fix.  No other issues besides that from 10k miles to 70kish miles.

Saw a rare (around here anyway) Volvo S90.  Pretty stately looking land yacht.

We’re in the market for a new car for my wife and are thinking about a Volvo wagon. Basically just needs to carry 2 kids and their shit and their friends around town. I have a big suv so don’t need a ton of space on this one. Any experience or thoughts on Volvo wagon reliability. She’s pretty utilitarian cars so don’t want something that requires out of the ordinary upkeep and maintenance. Is general rep regarding volvo safety true. Are they markedly safer than comparable wagons? Also thinking about taking a different route giving her my suv and getting an old wagoneer. If you pay for one of the nice refurbished ones from the plaices them up can they last a while and be pretty reliable?

I do have an XC90. It has less than 20K miles so not sure on long term reliability. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about it especially with the turbo/supercharged engine. It has been great so far though. My research showed that the first year, 2016, had several issues. We bought a 2018 that seems to have the kinks worked out. That's pretty common for any brand new model though.

Also it is owned by a private Chinese owner I believe. From all accounts he has stayed out of their business and let the Swedes do their thing.

If you really want a wagon there really aren't many choices. Just the Mercedes E-Class and the Volvo V60/V90 right? Ignoring the RS6 for now. The Jag was one and done...plus it's a Jag. I know the engine in the E350 is solid, but not sure about the rest of the car. Can't imagine the Volvo is much less reliable than anything German.

Oh yeah, I always get Geely and Tata confused in my head.

As the owner of a 2T, also, I am kind of worried, but I think those that don't flog or tune their engines are pretty safe.

One thing I have become aware of is that using 93 octane and the OEM-recommended synthetic oil (Dexos 2 in particular) can prevent a detonation condition that doesn't quite correspond to normal detonation, called Low Speed Pre-Ignition, which likes to munch pistons in hipo turbos.

Normally, I don't get too wound up about fluids, but there's been considerable research on LSPI, notably at SWRI, and top-grade synthetic oil apparently helps.  And even though you may be able to get away with lower octane and lower performance, theres danger of LSPI at the lower octane.

I'm definitely staying on top of maintenance on it. Changing the oil at 5K intervals even though it recommends 10K and using quality full synthetics and filters. I keep my cars for a long time and it's cheap insurance in my mind.

Also need to establish a relationship with the local independent Volvo expert. He gets great reviews.

I don't think you can change oil too often, but synthetic does get spendy.  I don't know if Volvos require suction or weird filters or removal of the manifold.  I had free maintenance with my CTS and I couldn't get the free oil change until 20% or less on the oil life monitor, which wound up being closer to 10k than 5k.  So I just stuck with it.  The oil came out pretty clear even at nearly 10k and it never burned or lost much over that interval up to 95,000 miles.

I'm digging my 2T.  It has plenty of squirt (0 boost mostly) for normal driving and actually reacts when you put your foot in it, which most four bangers just wouldn't do. It's actually stronger than the NA V6 I came out of, which needed to spin up pretty good  It starts to run out of breath around 100, but I rarely have occasion to go that fast.  30+ mpg is niiiice, especially buying premium.

Nothing unusual on the oil change so far. I've also been impressed with the 4 banger even in a decent sized SUV. Sounds shitty, but has plenty of power for a Mom-mobile and blows away the performance of our previous Lexus RX hybrid. Gas mileage is just okay around town, but pretty good on road trips. Opposite of a hybrid.

I think regular maintenance is fine, nothing over the top needed. I've got millions of miles on modern turbo motors in my fleet and nothing crazy has happened.

Wife has had two 2012 Cayenne S and 2015 Turbo.  Between the two we have put 180,000 miles on them with virtually no issues other than basic maintenance.  I think the only real work done on either aside from routine scheduled maintenance was the radio amp on the turbo went out.  it was replaced under warranty at zero cost.  Other than that it's been nothing but lots of awesome hassle free driving.  That turbo is stupid fast.

Photos leaked of the new bronco. 2 door and 4 door model.

Personally, I'm hyped about it. I like the Jeep concept (removable doors/top, etc) but not actual Jeeps. I will definitely be a buyer they offer it with some flavor of EcoBoost v6.92cf1b3a7706a5f7a55d22e43a6abccf.jpg4435a5689197073d1198035604e6edba.jpg

Can you imagine owning a car like that and only driving it 1,400 miles in 4 years? What a waste.

Brings to mind the lyrics from "Cursed Male" by Porno for Pyros:

All the guys
That really have the money
Are too old
To have a good time with it

Too old to turn the women on
Too old to have a fast car and drive it

I'm a buyer with the eco 2.3 turbo 4 that they have in the Ranger. That little truck is a lot of fun with that engine.

Really pumped for the Bronco. I'm glad Ford appears to be doing it correctly. A soft top config would be the tits, hope they offer it.

Drooling.  Even better color than the Miami blue 911 RIP.  They have estimate or a reserve?  Brain still mush in Vegas but I’ll look again.

The price I saw on Reddit is $875,000. Supposedly it was sold by Singer for $500,000.

bronco sport (fwd, unibody, explains why ford mailed it in so badly with the escape) also leaked:

looks like a cheap knock off of a RR Disco with a retro bronco front end.  I was not looking for a re-do of the Bronco II.  I was hoping for a legit full size bronco with a decent engine.  That turbo 4 banger is trash.  had one in a Ford SUV last year and the thing was just pitifully underpowered even in a small SUV.

The first gen Bronco more resembled the Bronco II (not "full-size") than a second gen Bronco built on a half-ton frame.  I think they have always shot for the first gen Bronco this go-round.

Unibody is probably to be expected, if disappointing.  FWD is a fail, especially considering the Explorer has returned to RWD.

It is kind of accurate that it resembles a Disco.  The Explorer resembles an RR.

*Is the "full-size" on-frame and 4WD?  I just realized I was conflating the Sport with the "other."  I guess.  It's all confusing and vapor-wareish.

Yes. The new "full-size" legit Bronco (2 and 4 door models) are built on the Ford Ranger platform and are body-on-frame, RWD with a true low range 4WD system.

The Bronco Sport is a unibody crossover SUV using the Bronco nameplate to grab sales.

Ford also plans to release an updated version of the small Courier truck that will be based on a unibody platform and will likely use the Bronco nameplate.

there's a ranger based model ("bronco") that the internets has taken to calling full size (it's not, it's about wrangler unlimited / 4runner size afaik), and there's a butched fwd/awd escape based model ("bronco sport") to compete with the renegade and compass.

That latter seems like a bit of a mistake.

Probably so.  I have difficulty taking my enthusiast hat off and seeing what the morons buy.

Yeah, I am surprised at the report that the turbo is trash. It must be a wee one. I have a buddy that bought a 2.3L Mustang because it was a steal.  It's scrong to very scrong.

I am pretty pleased with my 2T, but my car only weighs 3600 lbs.

I bought a Ranger as an office runner vehicle late last year (2.3L). It moves with a quickness, has plenty of grunt and out-performs everything in it's class. It's fun to drive.

For a Jeep comp if the Bronco numbers are the same as the Ranger:

Bronco - 2.3L turbo 4:    270 hp @ 5500 rpm / 310 lb-ft torque @ 3000 rpm

Wrangler - 3.6 V6:           285 hp @ 6400 rpm / 260 lb-ft torque @ 4800 rpm

I don't know.  all I know was driving that thing in the hills of aspen I thought it was going to explode any moment.  whatever it was, it was just a woefully shitty, underpowered engine.

High-quality front and rear three-quarter views show off a number of details that weren't apparent in Monday's leak, most notably the removable hardtop. There appear to be seams in the roof marking separate removable panels over the front and back seats, while the top's rear third likely comes off in one piece.

We still don't expect anything bigger than Ford's 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 (making 325 horsepower/400 lb-ft of torque in the F-150) under there at launch, but it sure looks like a V-8 would fit in there. That's pure speculation, of course.

The driveability of the small displacement turbo fours is pretty amazing.  The numbers support it, but it's something to experience.  At least it was for me.

Agree. Regrettably, I left the fanatics community two weeks ago when I was given a strong offer for my 6MT e90 335i. Now I'm in a 2.0T Accord. It's not amazing, but it is better than I expected. It handles my commute well and I like having CarPlay and adaptive cruise. I'm in my mid 30s with a young kid, so I consider it a downpayment on a 911 or AMG in my 40s.

I have the 2019 Edge with the 2.0T. It's way more than adequate for what the car is supposed to do. On the trip last week to Greensboro for the ACC, and back, I averaged 27.8 mpg and that included most of West Virginia and its mountains.

I've been very pleased with the vehicle.

Wow. When we had an edge with the na v6 it got around 18. Maybe 22 on a long highway trip.

I expected the Fiat version to look fanastic...  I don't care for it at all.

No lie. I set the trip computer when I left the house.

I saw on one of the shows on MotorTrend TV, or online an interview with someone from one of the major manufacturers, that right now the 2.0T is the sweet spot as far as power, emissions and mpg. Pretty much everyone has a 2.0T.
