Thanks for voting to restore some decency, ethics and morals.

(seriously, I can’t imagine how hard that decision has to be for lifelong party people)

Just for clarification, I am not lifelong party people. That’s Johnny and some others and I never want to find myself in that group. I tend to operate in the middle and usually find an R that aligns with my key beliefs more than a D and always vote that way in primaries. I have voted D in a general election once or twice including the last one. I believe that someone on the fringe either direction is bad news because polarization of topics is what keeps us in a mess. We all seem to forget the importance of “We the people of the United States...”. It’s devolved into trying to own the other side.

Okay then. The GOP just got fucked on the timing then. No way they could win today.  Damn near disenfranchisement then, IMO.

What a weird thing to whine about. Nowhere close to disenfranchisement. Maine citizens had every chance to vote and would have if they felt motivated.

Interesting to see how people cope:

B-T one of his friends needs to do a wellness check or he's black out drunk off the good stuff.

David is expressing his disappointment with a weird dramatization display of repeated sarcasm like a sad middle-schooler.

The duality of Man.

Go Joe Go!

I'm not all that disappointed. I'm not thrilled with Joe Biden, but I'll happily vote for anyone nominated by Democrats in Milwaukee.

Agreed. I actually am watching with a bit of resentment. I didn't vote as a protest for Yang being marginalized by Democrats everywhere.

Ok--so we need to fund refreshment centers at polling places.  that's good to know.

When I voted in Texas long ago, there was always donuts in the morning and cookies in the afternoon, with smiles everywhere.

How long was your line if you voted today?  Curious if there is a pattern in the delays. I presume there is a pattern based on wealth. That is the usual way of depressing the vote.

I don't know.  20 minutes.  It was a neighborhood event.  In a neighborhood that is hugely Democratic.

But I'm very interested in spreading that neighborhood feeling to other places that are hugely Democratic.

Good to know. I remember a time when guys like you were Democratic. They were called yellow-dog Democrats - they would rather vote for a "yellow dog" (scared dog) than a Republican. I doubt they would have voted for Trump (a god-damn New Yorker), but times change.

And shit--I don't know what I have been thinking.  @Brisketexan and I have been thinking about turnout.  We should subsidize food trucks to sit outside of polling places and give out free food to people standing in line.  We'll pay.  Just vote.

Fuck--I might be able to set up a 501(c)(3) and get a tax deduction out of that.

That's great. And great turnout if you had a 20 minute line. That's about perfect. A lot of time to meet your neighbors and get excited. It is cool that Texas matters in 2020. When was the last time - 1976?  Welcome back. As goes California and Colorado, so will go Texas as rule in the near future. It's a good time to be a Texas Democrat. Back on the map where it belongs.

Get involved. I think you are a lawyer, if I recall correctly. There will be a lot of need for lawyers in Texas on Election Day. Volunteer for a campaign - especially the final nominee. We can make voting pleasant for everyone. And encourage early voting for the General. We should have a huge turnout in November.

Excellent.

Keep a few anti-facists by your side to keep out the riff-raff. Joking, not joking.

And in fairness, it was 20 minutes because I let five people go in front of me so that I could stand in line and chat with a friend.

But you're right.  I got to see a friend.  I saw several other friends.  It's a great community affair.  I love voting on Election Day.

So that you know--I was at Party Headquarters two years ago taking calls on the voter-suppression hotline.  I'm happy to do the same this time, too.  We need to be all rowing in the same direction.  Because we have the same vision for the future of this country.

I know that's true.

Let's win this fucking thing in November!

How about fuck off thinking foreigners should monitor OUR god damned elections?

Great post, Kid Rock. Let's see if you can wave that flag hard enough to break the sound barrier.

If y'all think the only reason I am against the closing of minority polling stations in states that used to be monitored by federal courts due to concerns about racist disenfranchisement is that Bernie is losing, you're stupid.

No better word for it, you're just dumb

Bernie will win or lose. He's behind right now and might not recover. I wish that were not the case.

Regardless of outcome, we should not have massive polling closures in minority heavy areas come before people waiting 3+ hours to vote. That is the sign of a broken and racist system.

And I know ChiTown is going to get the cops called on him if he plays Lee Greenwood any louder, so I hate to trigger his jingoism further, but we should have international election monitors come look at what we are doing and give objective, third party reviews.

And at risk of making his beating American heart explode in his chest, I must reveal that we already have that happening to a small extent and you can read the OSCE's report on the 2018 midterms here.

I think we should have free and fair elections. I think no citizen should have to wait 3+ hours to vote.

I am truly unhinged.

...

Why am I handling Bernie's hugely disappointing night better than people who don't even want him to win?

Bizarre evening.

Do you think California should also be harder for Democrats to just win?

Republicans suck out here. This is a huge state with a giant economy. It's vitally important to the US. But I understand your point. California Republicans are cool with the situation or they would run better candidates.

This was funny, even if I ultimately agree with ChiTown.

Kudos for being a mature adult and handling this well. Either you are the rare Bernie Bro or maybe, just maybe Christmas is about so much more  maybe the stereotype has been exaggerated.

You don't think we should have election monitoring?

You and ChiTown are expressing a more jingoistic view than George W Bush's State Department, who started the program on the early 00's.

Congratulations!

Agree - We have to fix the lines and suppression - demand them from courts if necessary. And professionals - from wherever democracy is prized - should be providing guidance if they do it better. That should not be controversial. We need fair elections. Making people wait in lines like that suprreses votes. It acts like a poll tax. For most, time is the most valuable item they possess. And for less privileged voters, they have no time. It's not okay.

All campaigns should work together on that issue. We need to shape the battlefield in voting locations. Needs to start soon.

Yes election monitoring; I don't think international election monitoring is a good path to go further down, to be honest. I just don't trust other countries for that.

Yeah, same here in Oregon. Multnomah county and a few cities have a hold over this state. Ted Wheeler is such a shitty mayor, and would be nice to see a moderate Dem at least since a Republican couldn't win.

So you think a committee of Belgians and Swedes with clioboards is going to... what? Make our elections gay?

What's your concern?

I suppose I'd like to hear what you think the short and medium term looks like and how you expect to cope as well as how you predict the Bernie base/coalition will react.

I'm pretty torn on whether I believe that the Bernie movement has an expiration date that will peak after 8 years and with the waning of the cult personality or if it's a true paradigm shift that has embedded itself into the (young and future) DNA of America. I guess I'm wondering if we see some maturity like you are showing or a grrrl riot in the streets tell me where were you april 29 1992.

No I don't think this. I do think that potentially, at some point in the future, having the precedent of these third party auditors could be a problem and risk for America because sovereign nations have agendas and all geopolitics is, is an infinite power struggle that only ends in fragile peace or vanquish.

Go on social media and you can find all the schadenfreude and Bernie Bro tears you want.

I don't know why you want to, but like I said to the Betohead who loathes me, whatever gets you through the night.

Funny to talk about the maturity of others while describing the movement as a "cult of personality". Might want to find that yourself before searching for it in others.

That's not how Social Security and Medicare work at all. You don't get back what you put in. You pay for the people who are on it now. It's also not how public education works.

All of those programs are socialist in nature.

I didn't mean Cult of Personality as a dig, honestly, but I get this probably isn't the best time to engage with you as this is probably really fresh and raw nervy. Peace.

Nope.  Setting up a 501c3 right now.  This is a preview of November.  I don't care how they vote.  Just that they do so.  And have the ability to do so.

This is GOP vote suppression.  And I am not going to stand for it.  Fuck them.  Let's get these people some snacks.
