University of Dayton shutting down their campus including student housing, and the students are revolting.

So they play the games without fans? How long is this going to go on? Rest of March, through the summer, rest of the year? Vaccine is about a year away even with it being expedited.

I guess these guys play plenty of practice without crowds, but it'll be surreal for the fans to watch these games without crowds. Will it be easier to hear cuss words and other stuff that goes on during plays? Will the players have less emotion without a crowd to pump up? Will a big game winning shot be subdued without a huge cheer afterwards? If nothing else, it will be an interesting reason to watch.

Yeah, the Champions League games without fans have been really eerie.

They still have the goal music and all that but it's far from the same. Poor Josip Ilicic broke the away goalscoring record and no one was there to cheer.

TV studios solved this problem in the 70's, grasshopper.  Just add a laugh track.

what are the odds that we get no tourney this year?

After announcements today by Houston and the states of Washington and Ohio, I’d say it’s approaching 50/50

I doubt they straight up cancel it. I'm guessing they will play the whole thing without spectators.

If that’s the case, then may as well play the games in a high school gym or really small college arena. No need to play games in a cavernous and empty 20,000 seat arena. Might actually be cool to see games played in a 1,000 seat gym.

Not going to be cancelled.  But It's becoming more and more likely that the games will be played with empty seats.

Well 100% for sure the First Four and the Cleveland subregional.  Not far off from the South Regional in Houston being empty.

Spokane and Sacramento subregionals and the West Regional in Los Angeles are in danger.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-03-11/covid-19-risk-healthy-young-person

What’s the risk of COVID-19 for a healthy young person?

Basically low, but some healthy young persons do die.  The article just recycles the Chinese stats, where the death risk for everyone under age 40 is 0.2%.  So adjusting for smoking, underlying pre-existing health issues, etc., the death rate for athletes would likely be less than 1 in 1000 for those infected.

But say 1 in 1000 athletes under 40 die from it, at a 60% infection rate the math says to expect a couple of deaths among the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB rosters in the next year (excluding minor league players.)

Well sure.

Without fans: Coaches, support staff, refs, tv crews, announcers, facility persons.  With fans: Concessions persons, fans, janitors, ticket checkers.

Well there's that... and then there's the spreading it around the country and to any elderly people/people with lung problems in their families.

“We’re going to caucus.”

I hope IA St didn't organize this.

Kansas wins the Big 12 tournament popular vote, but Baylor got enough state-delegate equivalents to get the auto bid.

Hahahaha so dumb. This isn’t sars that had a death rate of over 50%. But panic is in the air.

LOL, it's not dumb at all.  Point is completely healthy looking people can carry it all over.  That's not the case with SARS.  Why don't you leave this one to the pros?

Then Texas will have an advantage if they should get in the tourney since that’s what a home game is like.
