That's the "joke". In posting a pic of receiving the stimulus, the screenshot reveals that the poster wastes money on porn. It's a Photoshop/fake bank account app that's been circulating for a few weeks.

Yeah, like this one that is clearly fake due to the date.  Had the date been for this week, it would have been accurate for a lot of people.

Damn, there’s a lot more poors on this site than I would have ever believed.

The median household income in this country is something around $50k.

Half the houses in the country make less than  that.  People are supporting families on what I was making as a single kidless college graduate.

Curious if this is prioritized based off of income, filing date, last name or what.

Didnt file my most recent return due to I would have to pay in about 1100 and would rather wait till July and keep the cash on hand just in case. Last years my AGI was literally 149k, so right under the max for filling married, so I am really curious where I am in the line for this.

I'd say nice humblebrag but obviously you're surly poor.

My online banking login is having technical difficulties. Errbody looking for that trump money. I already bought a Thermoworks BBQ thermometer and a nice bottle of whiskey. When it officially hits I'll need to find one of those drive-thru strip joints.

Same.  I got a text notification telling me of a deposit.  So I tried to login on my bank app, but no can do.  It's "Temporarily Unavailable".

Whiskey just because Whiskey or are there some COVID19 related whisky deals that I must be immediately informed of to utilize my government make it rain fund. That per kid money WAS intended for parental alcohol needs right?

I've already torn through half my Ardbeg and Bushmills since this started.

Gotcha. Thanks!

Edit: I was confused (not the first time) about who was buying a boat. I shouldn’t have responded to MNLonghorn.

If you live in the Fargo area and want to fish, go with an OB. It will extend your boating season by weeks or possibly months. Unless you have it stored in a heated garage, your IO will have to be winterized after your last outing, which could be forced to an late September/early October in the ND/MN border region.

I live in an area that has probably 4 weeks (2 weeks on each end of the season) longer IO season than your area. That translates to a mid-October winterizing...at $250 YAY!

One year, I had my IO boat in unheated storage and forgot to winterize it before we left for a trip to Austin for an October game. I saw the temps back home when the front hit, and I worried the entire time I was in Texas. When we got back, I immediately took it in for winterizing, but it was too late. That was a $4,000 mistake.

A few years later, my SIL convinced me to let him and his dad winterize it. He said they had done it before. That was another $4,000 mistake.

There is open water where I live for all or parts of every month, and there are warm weekends in Dec-Feb when all the OB guys can hit the water to fish. If I do that, I have to get it winterized on Monday to the tune of $250.

If you are getting it strictly for wakeboarding, tubing, or skiing, the IO has definite advantages.

I’m confused. Winterizing may not even be a factor.

Now I have a serious question.  One of my kids filed taxes for both 2018 and 2019, then moved and changed bank accounts.  The old bank advised coming in to open a new account into which they would "try" to redirect the deposit. That can't be done today because of time and distance.  Doing this tomorrow will only decrease the odds of success.  Does anyone here know what will happen to the funds if the electronic deposit fails?  Does it go back to the IRS for issuance of a paper check which won't happen until May 4 - who knows when?

Scammers already out angling for stimulus money. Just got a call from a heavily accented man claiming to be calling from "government program"

I didn't let him get into his spiel but I'm sure it's along the lines of getting old clueless people to "verify" their accounts regarding the stimulus and then cleaning them out.

I think it’ll revert to paper check. You can update your direct deposit info from 2018 but not 2019. It reverts to the most recent information.

You still pick up calls from phone numbers that aren't in your phonebook?

Dunno how ours is coming to us, as we don’t do direct deposit for income tax returns. (Usually have to pay in).

However our Social Security annuities are direct deposited.

Don’t care either way because we will give most - if not all - of it to grandkids who work for restaurants..... or used to.

I'm a teacher. During this closure stuff I have to use Google to make calls to parents so they don't see my real number. Then when they call me back it's weird numbers. So, yeah. For now I'm answering the phone.

Same. Using a Google voice number to call parents and I'd say I'm batting less than .500 on making contact. Had a mom tell me yesterday to "stop fucking bothering me" and hanging up.

Was talking to a coworker whose daughter is a physical education teacher. Kind of hard to teach that online, i suppose. Her school district posted suggested physical activities for the kids online, the equivalent of a lesson plan. The kids are supposed to do them and report back online. This chick basically just grades the kids based on whether they report back that they did the exercise. Basically fully paid vacation, as it takes her 10 minutes a day.

More information required. Apparently owing money and paying direct out of the bank account doesn’t count for having my direct deposit info.

Yep.  Idiotic.   They take my auto-debit every month for my pay-in, but they can’t use that same info to give me the payment.  Lol

Yeah this “status unavailable” BS sucks. Pretty sure I read there’s going to be another portal for people just needing to update their direct deposit info. Haven’t talked to one person today that has had the new portal work. People have received moneys though.... blasted.

Mine is at this and I know they have my bank info, because they take 100$ out every month from owing last year. I thought I read, that wouldn't matter if you owed for something else. Anyone know abouts all that?

Same. I haven’t filed 19 yet as I owe. I owed in 18 too, but my agi was enough to get a payment. So I held off filing, especially with the extension. Been trying the portal all day with no success.

I didn't realize the govt was giving people on unemployment an extra $600/wk on top of the state benefits. That's $4.5k a month in Texas + the Trump bucks. I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the people who got laid off/furloughed are getting a pay raise. Lulz

I’m banking on this other “portal” opening by the end of this week. My fiancé got in a hurry to file her taxes today to feel like she would become eligible even though she filed in 18. That led her to finding out that she owes the same amount as the stim check would be. Except...she doesn’t have that check yet. Yeah, not a happy moment.

My money was deposited today. Conveniently, the shower in my master bath is leaking and has to be gutted and redone. The quote was in the neighborhood of $2000. Fucking hell.
This is how it always works. I came into unexpected money twice in the past year and both times were immediately followed by unexpected major expenses.

In Texas, he weekly maximum benefit + $600, works out to $28.025 an hour, $1,121, and $4,484.00 a month. Retail, tourism, and restaurant/hospitality employees probably won't qualify for the max benefit. Perhaps some airline employees will. It would be a pay cut for most oil and gas jobs.

I'd agree that yes in some states, yes it's a significant raise for minimum wage employees. For career types in Texas it will certainly help, but it probably won't be a raise.
