There's an episode about the road warriors in a couple weeks.  Hopefully they cover the early part of their career when they were as over as anyone has ever been and not just focus on when Hawk was too far gone to be out there

Of course they had to bring fucking Jesus into this. The first 45 minutes are worth a shit.

I really enjoyed the episode on the Road Warriors but was blown away by listening to Nikita Koloff talk like a regular American dude instead of the Russian raspy voice he used as a pro wrestler.  The Road Warriors were the baddest wrestlers I have ever seen.

I saw them wrestle Doom at the Sam Houston Coliseum back in the day. That was a great match.

Don’t have the first clue who New Jack is, but the guide info sounds fun.
One of the most feared and controversial wrestlers of all time, New Jack's career reads like a criminal rap- sheet. Revealing the man behind the monster and his hardcore legacy.

I'd never heard of him either.  Holy shit about the reverse Rodney King bit and then calling the NAACP home-grown monkeys.

Had never heard of the guy until I saw him drop an elbow from the 2nd tier of Hammerstein Ballroom on a Dudley, IIRC. Only thing I could think is that this Mofo is really crazy. He might kill someone.

Holy shit the Owen Hart episode was a tough watch. Heartbreaking

I remember watching that PPV live when it was all happening. Very heartbreaking situation. I was watching with my son, so the end segment with Oje made it get a bit dusty in the house.

I knew a wrestler fell to his death back in the day, but not all that.

Same. I didn’t realize that 4-5 matches took place afterwards in Owen’s blood. I mean did I see/hear that right? Wouldn’t want to shut it down right after a fatal accident to preserve evidence, bring in some investigators, etc.

You heard that right. I remember when I was watching, even as a 17 year old, thinking "man that's fucked up."

Earlier this week, host and wrestling insider Conrad Thompson sat down with series creators Evan Husney and Jason Eisener for the first episode of VICE TV's Dark Side of the Ring: Confidential. Offering a deep-dive into the most explosive episodes from the first two seasons and featuring never-before-seen moments, unanswered questions, and secrets uncovered), the series kicked off with another look at the mysteries surrounding the death of "Gorgeous" Gino Hernandez. Now, the network is offering the series premiere on YouTube for viewers who haven't checked out either series but were looking to check it out (with two deleted scenes just to sweeten the deal).

And here's what's on tap for Dark Side of the Ring: Confidential moving forward: March 16: "The Montreal Screwjob"; March 23: "The Last of the Von Erichs"; March 30: "The Killing of Bruiser Brody"; April 6: "The Life and Crimes of New Jack"; April 13: "The Last Ride of the Road Warriors"; April 20: "The Final Days of Owen Hart"; and April 27: "Cocaine & Cowboy Boots: The Herb Abrams Story."

"We are putting the finishing touches on season three of 'Dark Side of the Ring'… and the excitement is building – but the fans absolutely demanded more, sooner!" said Morgan Hertzan, Executive Vice President and General Manager, VICE TV. "We wanted 'Dark Side' fans to know we're listening and we've made 'Dark Side of the Ring: Confidential' just for them– as a way to thank them for their incredible loyalty to this hit franchise with new, bonus content to tide them over. Evan Husney and Jason Eisner are masters of their craft and 'Dark Side' superfans will get to sit down with them to get the inside track on everything that's remained behind-the-scenes…until now."

Before the year wrapped, Vice TV announced that two spinoff series would join the third season of Dark Side of the Ring in 2021. Produced by Jailbirds producer 44 Blue Productions, Dark Side of the Football will shine a light on stories that live in the shadows of America's favorite sport. It will explore the sometimes-flawed men behind the masks; the coaches, teams, and leagues who control their fates; and the untold story behind bizarre and tragic off-the-field events — facts often hidden to shield fans from discovering unsettling truths about the game they love.

Produced by America's Top Dog producer Railsplitter Pictures and Battle of the Blades producer Insight Productions, Dark Side of the '90s will look at the most captivating pop-culture moments, trends, and personalities of the decade through interviews with people who studied the time period. Each episode will dissect the nostalgia, uncovering the surprising dark truths underlying the glitz, the glamour, and the headlines.

Already have next week’s Von Erich episode set to record, DirecTV guide info says there are three deleted scenes.

Those last two paragraphs sound interesting too.

I went to this ppv. The WWE claims the house lights were off, but I saw him fall very clearly, I can close my eyes and see it again. I thought it was a dummy/work until we got back to the car afterwards and the radio said he died.

Just watched the “Killing of Bruiser Brody” episode which apparently was the first one they ever did.  Really great episode.  It’s so sad what happened to Brody as it seems pretty obvious he was murdered and the other wrestler got away with it.  It was great seeing so many wrestlers from my youth that I had forgotten about like Tony “Mr. USA” Atlas, Dirty Dutch Mantel and Abdullah the Butcher.  Can’t wait for season 3.

Did you watch the version with the three dudes discussing it? I watched the Von Erich one the other night, that shit was good.

Yes.  I apparently have them all taping from when I DVR’d the regular ones.  Never saw the original one of this episode though.

That was some crazy stuff.  Brody was well liked from what I recall so it was surprising nobody came forward.  Or at least came forward and was heard.

I would recommend watching it as they answer a lot of those questions.  Apparently Tony Atlas came forward but there was a whole cover up by Carlos Colon and the other Puerto Rican wrestlers.

I watch this show also. Last season the Von Erich episode was heart wrenching as they followed Kevin around talking about his brothers

I lived in Denton when most of this stuff was going on and they were staying at their place in Shady Shores. I used to run across various brothers at bars etc. and on local dirt bike trails.

One night after the bars closed we stopped at the 24hr Albertsons and ran into one of the brothers huffing Whipped Cream inside the store. He loaded up about six cans and took them to checkout. He still had whipped cream all over his shirt. I think it was Mike but they all looked alike to me.

The blood thing is not actually true. There were fake blood stains in the area from a "bloodbath" on Sunday Night Heat from The Brood. I LOVE this series, but it was disappointing that they said that when it wasn't true. Watch the opening match of the PPV, you can see the stains and that's before Owen.

I was also at this, we drove from OKC to Kansas City, it was my first ever PPV. The house lights were dimmed, b/c they were playing a promo on the Tron when it happened. It wasn't pitch, so I'm sure if you were at the right angle, you would see it. I was looking at the Tron, and heard a massive ker-thunk, and my first thought was it sounded like Big Show did the thing where he slingshots over the ropes to enter the ring. Can vividly remember standing and watching and not understanding the significance until they started chest compressions and then my knees literally got weak and started shaking, the only time that's ever happened to me. I was standing but leaning back against my chair.

Anyone catch the last 2 Biography shows?

Great behind the scenes look at the rough road these guys take.

You talking about the Stone Cold Steve Austin one?  If so, yes, and I thought it was really great.  Looking forward to Rowdy Roddy that I am recording tonight.

Only problem with these A&E pieces is they really sugar coat over almost all the bad things in these wrestlers lives.  Austin no mention of Debrah and being married to her ever, not wife beating accusations, no porn star he dated after he retired stabbing him, ect.   Heck I don’t even think they mentioned Pipper’s cancer or the drug use.  Pretty much puff pieces and not very in-depth.

Yeah I thought the same...I knew about Austin's issues with Debra and Jeannie,  but hadn't heard about the stabby chick. She's freaking crazy

He seems to of calmed down and be a much better person since his going really hard days though.   His new wife is a vegan former elementary teacher from LA he met at the gym who had no idea who he was when they met and she seems to keep him in check and control the household now.  I use to listen to the early days of his podcast and he seems like a different person from the guy who would do that kind of things now, hopefully.  But I remember the porn star stabbing I was like wtf?  Most he got into it on the podcast was to say he retired and was living hard and living with DDP and would come home messed up all the time and DDP was like wtf are you doing with your life man lol.  So he got into acting and got his own place then and straightened up a bit.  He quit the podcast but long before that it seems him and the guy from Rockport who was his best friend had a falling out, which sucks cause him talking to his buddy from Rockport were the best podcasts he ever had.

I agree they are puff pieces but I am really enjoying re visiting a lot of the history of these wrestlers that I wasn’t aware of or had forgotten.  Especially the in the ring stuff and the development of their characters.  I watched the Piper one last night and thought it was great.  They did mention how he drank too much and basically had substance abuse issues but they just didn’t go into details.  They never mentioned the cancer.  I was more interested in learning how he started in the wrestling business in LA, then Portland, then moving east to team up with Flair in the NWA in Georgia and the Mid Atlantic before heading to the WWF.  I never knew he was stabbed by fans so many times he had that leather jacket of his lined with Kevlar.  His ex wife and kids really went on and on about how important family was and people like Hogan and Flair I think said how he kept his family totally out of the business to protect them.   In the Stone Cold one I thought he pretty much admitted he was a shit father and husband and wrestling was everything to him and how he was selfish so they are not all positives about the wrestler or the wrestling business.  The shows aren’t perfect but I look forward to the rest of them.

I agree I enjoy them for sure I just wish they went deeper and darker lol.   I’m pretty sure that wasn’t his ex wife they were still married when he died I think.  It’s just my deep documentary fan that’s wants to hear the gory details lol.  Pipper was like the king of the coke heads supposedly in the locker room.  Some channel did one on Hogan years back and he talked about after the divorce he basically was getting drunk doing pills and taking a pistol and running it against his teeth and putting it in his mouth then Ali’s daughter calling him and saving his life basically.   That’s the closest to Hogan being human you will ever get though and they caught him at a weak time probably in that interview, his kids seem to have adjusted ok though.   I’m way too much of a nerd on old wrestlers I google and read all the stuff about them and paid attention to news articles over the years, it’s just not the same now days.  I watch mania every year but just turn on the tv shows from time to time and the new guys have no clue how to sell or tell a story.    The taker last ride doc show was pretty good though.

Yeah he seems like a great dude.  I would have liked more from him and less of Hulk spinning everything to be about Hulk.
