Why the negative reaction? Unless I'm missing something, it seems as if the hate vote is on the side of good this time around.

‘Seems’

People are clearly getting comfortable with the ‘Trump has no chance’ narrative.

It goes without saying that the third party vote was extremely strong in 2016. Roughly 8% of the overall vote was 3rd party? That’s close to 10%.

third party candidates won’t receive nearly as much vote share this time. Bernie supporters aren’t nearly as mad as they were 4 years ago because Bernie got beat fair and square in the primary this year. What happened to Bernie in 2016 was pretty shady. Bernie voters “protest” voted and the smart ones saw where that got them....... A president they’re going to hate even more than Clinton.

i think a lot of that vote will go Biden’s way for the sole reason that he’s not trump and I’m totally ok with that. I also think a lot of people realize that this is their one and only chance to get rid of trump. Lots of independents are probably not happy with the extremely toxic political atmosphere in this country and the vast majority of the toxicity can be traced back to the president, a guy who oddly enough seems to be in campaign mode more than he actually works.

No.  It really was an outlier.  Other polls from that time showed it a 5-8 point lead for Biden.  So it was a head-scratcher at the time, and is even more so now.

Hugo's right.  It's an outlier probably caused by some problem with the sample.  At this point, it really should just be ignored.

I remember digging into the numbers at the time.  It was the highest percentage of Republicans compared to any of their previous polls.  And, even at that, Biden did better on likability.

Minnesota will becomes a GOP state I think, sooner than later. It happened in a hurry in Iowa. I don’t think this is likely the cycle but if the GOP nominates someone decent in 24 I’d be worried about Minn, WI and Michigan if I were a Democrat

Of course, that’s mostly offset by AZ being a dead lock for Dems and Georgia and NC moving that way.

Trumps been paying attention to MN and that’s smart. It won’t help him but I bet it helps out in the future.

Look at the numbers in the upper Midwest in 2018 compared to 2016 and it can help calm some nerves. HRC was hilariously bad. In Minnesota specifically, there were 3 candidates who pulled in more votes in a midterm year than HRC got in a presidential election (that she won the state). That’s terrible, yet all 4 are more than Trumps total.

HRC in 2016- 1,367,716

Klobs (SEN)- 1,566,174

Tina Smith (SEN)-  1,370,540

Tim Walz (GOV)- 1,393,096

In Michigan, Whitmer was elected Governor in 2018 with 2K less votes than HRC received in 2016. Pathetic.

7 out of the last 8 statewide elections since 2016 have gone Democrats favor in Wisconsin.Tammy Baldwin got more votes in her Senate race than Hilldawg. SAD.

HRC in 2016- 1,382,536

Baldwin- 1,472,914 (also beats what Trump received in 2016)

That idiot comey re-opening the investigation against Clinton and Clinton’s campaign committing several unforced errors like not campaigning at all in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa really did hurt her. Not to mention Clinton wanting to let 1000’s of Syrians into our country and even democrats were vehemently against it.

Biden’s campaign won’t make the same mistakes she did.

2020 should show people just how terrible of a candidate Clinton was. It’s already been proven in the democratic primary. The socialists won states like Kansas and Oklahoma in 2016 because Hilary was on the ballot. Biden destroyed Bernie in those states just 4 years later.

2020 will show how bad of a candidate Clinton is. Democratic turnout will definitely be better.

Iowa doesn't have the twin cities, which is the most dynamic metro in the Midwest. As long as the divide is urban/rural, educated/noneducated, etc. MN will be a blue state. The rest of the state cannot out vote MSP. Maybe in future cycles if suburban whites go home to the GOP.

What is going to drive Minnesota to converting to Republican?

It would actually be poetic justice / karma. He’s spent his entire life viewing every relationship as transactional and stabbing everyone in the back who showed him any loyalty.  If he loses and runs again, he would finally get to experience the other side of that in 2024 when the GOP voters and his primary opponents treat him like loser trash.

”Even George W managed to get re-elected!  You couldn’t even do that much.  There are only two people alive who were one term loser Presidents - you and Jimmy Carter! Go build houses with him and let winners pick a nominee!”

”We have lib judges trying to take our guns because of you!  This country has gone to socialist hell in a hand basket the last 4 years because you let the Democrats take charge. Why should we listen to you?  You lost like a dog - sad!”

”It always bothered me that he did [insert something that this person defended him for doing throughout his entire presidency].  If he hadn’t been so stupid, maybe we wouldn’t be ruled by communists right now! We need someone better who can win!”

These are all nice dreams, but cult members don't turn on the leader.  They will bend what is left of their brains into pretzels in whatever way necessary to re-assign blame elsewhere.

Trump 44

Biden 41

In Utah.

Imagine Trumps meltdown if Romney campaigns for Biden there...

Self back pattage, but I said this might happen in January.

You've got a group of people that actually practice their religion instead of the religiontheater that is popular throughout the rest of the country and a senator that is leading them in following his conscience.

The spread between the two polling firms is dramatic. One of them is wrong.

there was a set of tweets a while back, maybe someone can find them, where it showed each state and registration changes or new signups since 2018 (or maybe 16). ohio was one of the few getting redder. most states were static or going blue.

not holding my breath over here.

Ohio is a lost cause. Focus those resources on FL and PA.

Damn straight. They're a Superfund site masquerading as a state and their chili sucks. They have the worst collection of professional sports teams in the nation, including the Bungles and the Browns who couldn't fucking wait to bolt for Baltimore, that's right Baltimore! Their baseball teams were either owned by racists (Schott) or are the most offensive mascot in sports. They won the lottery with LeBron being born there and even he couldn't fucking wait to bail, twice.  Their "premier" university's fans are fucking jorts wearing goons who can't even cheat properly. Their players had to hock memorabilia to pay for, not cars, drugs, or girls, but tattoos.

They make Florida and Oklahoma look good by comparison.

We should have let the Cuyahoga burn the entire state to the ground.

Fuck Ohio. They're what Kentucky and West Virginia would be if they had access to the Great Lakes.

To me the blue wall has to be Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Arizona.

If Biden gets those, he doesn’t need Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, or North Carolina.

I think he gets the last 3 on your list as well as I don’t think this is particularly close, but yeah- if Biden wins a nail biter that’s what it looks like without a doubt in my mind. Trump has to win one of those four states you identified as a blue wall (and all the rest) and I just don’t see any of them that he has any chance at.

Absent Biden just shooting himself repeatedly in the dick, and honestly I don’t even think that would matter.

Pulled a ballot?  Does that mean that 425 Dems switched to Rs?  I find that hard to believe.
Uneducated whites were big for Bernie in 2016 as an outsider. Crushed Clinton in that demographic. A nontrivial amount of them went for Trump in the general. That's probably the kind of voter you're looking at there.

I could so see trump resigning in September or October if numbers continue to look this bad. He’s a pussy that can’t handle losing. He’ll cry about it being totally rigged with mail in ballots and with twitter and the lamestream media and that he’s just going to resign. The deep state this, the deep state that. Pence pardons him and he continues his assault as a regular citizen. We’re still a divided nation but at least with competency in governance beginning to return in January 2021.

Sure, but it doesn’t take that many guys with deep pockets to correct a bad line. Especially when it’s been up for months. Betting markets are much more sophisticated than they used to be when the cowboys would always be bad value because all the fools would dump money on them no matter what.

So does Trump's war on the 1st Amendment help or hurt him?

From what I see, most of his knuckle dragging mouth breathers dont understand that the 1st is about protecting individuals from government proscribed speech limits.  Not individuals or companies limiting other people.

Helps him with his base, hurts him with everyone else. Just like everything else that has happened the past 3.5 years

I'd bet (damn I'm clever amirite) at least two thirds of people betting on politics will vote for Donald Trump. The line is set as a equilibrium to get action. Biden has to be a really, really good value to get someone to bet against their own desire. Especially when you consider that at this point, this country has two sets of political "reality," I use that term loosely but I don't know what else to call it.

What kind of line would it take for you to bet OU over Texas?* Same thing.

*If the answer to that question isn't "no such line can exist bc OU sucks" then fuck you, btw.
