Already got one. Colin Powell just both rebuked Trump and endorsed Biden.

Since we get to include 'not gonna happen' I'll go ahead and end the list with the most important two:

Rush Limbaugh

Tucker Calrson

ok, for shits and giggles I'll throw in a third:

Kim Kardashian

Paul Ryan, Condi Rice, and Marco Rubio have, at different times, also rebuked Trump, but I’d like to see them come out against his current rhetoric/stances.  And in Ryan’s and Rice’s cases, possibly endorse Biden.  Tillerson has clashed with Trump as well so it’s no stretch to imagine him joining Mattis and Kelly in a public rebuke.

I should probably Re-order.  A public rebuke and Biden endorsement from George W Bush would still be the most powerful statement in terms of giving folks who voted for Trump in 2016 a reason to jump ship.  The next would be Marco Rubio; even though he’s obviously spineless and it would be easy to see it as opportunism, I still think it would be pretty powerful for him to rebuke Trump publicly, and while it’s a longshot, I think it’s possible.  I won’t hold out any hope for Haley, but as one of the few people frequently cited as “the future of the party” I think it would be pretty damaging to Trump in 2020 if Haley rejected him.

Rush and Carlson would be such a dramatic 180 that a rebuke from them would be literally unbelievable.  Same for Sarah Huckabee, Mitch McConnell, Mike Pence, and Kellyanne Conway.

Tweet will read Colin Powell was a loser who got us into a war with fake news. He was never a great general.

It really doesn't matter if people come out against Trump. He will always have some quick Twitter response to negate what the people say. What they need to do is say it's time for him to resign. Repeat it over and over. He'll just say it's deep state but those opposed to him need to lay out why he's a threat to our country.

This is how you concern troll.  That’s just troll art right there.

The proposal you are talking about was made a month ago,  when we were in the depths of COVID,  and it was an idea for temporary UBI until the pandemic had eased.  It was actually $2000 a month per person. It was never actually introduced as legislation,  but an idea floated back when the Senate GOP was still interested in doing pandemic relief.

Defunding police departments is a grab bag phrase that can cover a lot of serious proposals: stopping the purchase of military equipment, abolishing and recreating local PDs in a manner like Camden, NJ, or getting tough with the Union in exchange for real policing reform and accountability.  Nobody is talking about just wiping out your local PD and going to the honor system.
But I appreciate your concern that formally GOP suburban voters who have likely already voted Democrat I’m 2018 or are strongly Democrat curious are going to hear some sort of vague socialist bogeyman language and immediately run back into the nurturing arms of Donald Trump.

Go fuck yourself. It was genuine question. I don’t troll and your accusation of trolling just makes you look like a closed minded liberal idiot who is clueless about how the optics of some democrat proposals scare away voters.

It’s because of people like you that I’m constantly having to defend the Democrats against the swing voters who ultimately decide your fate. In fact your stupid well rehearsed line that anyone who ever dares to question a Democrat proposal is someone who only votes Republican is about as stupid a viewpoint as any I’ve seen. There are millions of swing voters, as evidenced by the election of Obama, for example.

I just spent two hours yesterday patiently trying to fend off all of the stupid shit that has been proposed by the far left that has truly scared people who can’t stand Trump, are ready to vote differently, but constantly read about the next radical idea.

And most of the time, it’s not because the idea is completely bad, it’s because the Party does such a terrifically bad job of communicating to the American public. You want to re-allocate city resources from police protection to mental health services? Great. Not a bad idea. But calling it Defund the Police is a real winner marketing strategy.

Just think of yourself as one of several who may be partially responsible for getting the moron re-elected.

Settle down, Francis.

Thats litearally the only news outlet Describing it that way. Not even Fox described it that way. And it’s CNBC, which nights as well be Fox Business Light.  That’s Larry Kudlow’s old shop. The fact your in here talking up a story that never was and never will be as a game changer is just ridiculous.

I didn’t call it defund the police,  that’s what conservative outlets call it. To scare the olds that liberuls are gonna leave them in some sort of lawless wasteland.   Most serious people refer to it as policing reform. And there’s a lot of serious conversation going on about it right now in DC, on both sides.

Joe Biden could run Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign word for word and we will still be hearing about how his socialist agenda is going to destroy America and scare suburban voters back to the GOP.

Also: If resorting to ad hominem attacks makes you feel better about yourself,  don’t let me stand in your way.

Just when the Democratic Party has a huge chunk of moderate voters ready to vote against Trump and possibly even Republicans senators, stories come out about defunding the police departments and Kamela Harris/Bernie Sanders proposing up to $10k per month in payments to Americans. I haven’t read the details of these proposals. What am I missing? They sound like bad, radical ideas that definitely would scare away moderate voters.

10k per month?  Why not 20k?  Or 100k?  If we are talking about terrible idea which would never happen why bother setting a basic income at $120k a year when we could just as easily set it at $1,000,000 a year.

Point Number 1 You Made - Only One New Outlet: WRONG

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/kamala-harris-monthly-income-boost-coronavirus-crisis/

There are at least another 3 news outlets carrying the story.  Now are you going to call CBS News shills for the Republicans? Given your ridiculous post I"m guessing that's likely.

Point Number 2 You Made - CNBC is Fox News Light: WRONG

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/cnbc/

I'm sure next you'll try to argue that mediabiascheck isn't credible.  Fine. Go look at the five other sources that rate it left-oriented. A potential Vice PResident candidate is touting this and yet you believe no one is taking it seriously. The nonsense of your comment doesn't even require a further response.

Point Number 3 You Made - Only Conservative Outlets are Calling It Defunding the Police: WRONG

I guess you might want to turn on the national news right now where protesters AND the Mineapolis CIty Counciel is demanding that the police department be abolished. RIGHT NOW.

Point Number 4 You Made - Joe Biden Could Use Romney Talking Points and Still Get Branded a Socialist: COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT

So what. That's politics and has NOTHING to do with the post I made.

You look foolish and your post was foolish.

Fuck Paul Ryan forever. No way that spineless drip isn't voting for Trump.

Paul Ryan reminds me of a story I've told a few times on here and Shaggy. Right after Ken Paxton won the AG race I was at a party with some big money Dallas Republicans who had supported Dan Branch during the primaries and they were all out of sorts about the fact that our new state AG was an actual, no-bullshit crook.
So I said something like - are you guys saying you supported the democrat? And there’s this long pause and these cats sort of all look at their shoes and finally one of the Republicans says “No, but I only gave Paxton $100.”

I got busy and didn't respond to you earlier, but you are correct regarding the "Defund the Police." It is more than just one outlet and it has crossed both the left and the right leaning social media quite a bit. While some folks like to push short three word sentences because they "stick," I agree that this particular phrase is problematic. Partly because for some it results in "And?" It leaves them with the 'and then what?' question wherein they are going to supply their own answer which may be favorable "We get it right." or "Chaos and anarchy." You get the picture. On the conservative leaning forums that I view, there is a dim view of this. Since I lurk on those sites mainly because they are very heavily moderated and also subject to a lot of abuse vs. discussion, I haven't had the courage to ask, if one is for small government then why is one so in favor of spending outrageous sums of money to law enforcement? Wouldn't preventative proactive community work be cheaper in the long run or conversely, why are the police applying punishment in the form of brutality when the law is supposed to be where the case is adjudicated? Seems a bit deep state to let the police get to decide who is punishable and who is not.

In short, it isn't up to me to decide what phrase to use. I'm not the one being subject to the brutality, the abuse, the profiling (yet) but I do hope that whatever is decided on, the problems that you proposed are considered regardless of whether or not they are eventually acted upon.

He can't even fake empathy. Y'all know what it looks like when he stays on script. It's awful. He doesn't agree with any of it. It convinces none of the undecided. If there are in fact any undecided voters. It certainly won't do much to undo the massive damage he's done. It might dishearten some magats. Maybe. I don't know exactly who he thinks it will reach. Claw back some in Michigan or Minnesota?

He's almost certain to start riffing on his own after the prepared statement. He has to revert to form. It is all he knows. Being empathetic and conciliatory is not in him. At all.

I don’t do back and forth with ideologues who get hard on thinking they are scoring points by spewing electrons.

You’re original assertion is that centrist and right leaning moderates may be scared away from Biden by news that left wing democrat proposals:

1) one involves a UBI proposal by Kamala Harris you mischaracaterized. Your CBS article actually contradicts your point by confirm it was a UBI proposal for $2000 (NOT $10000) for households below $120,000. Which is what I tried to tell you.

2) The Minneapolis proposal is exactly what I said: disbanding and reforming the police department in a new model (aka, Camden, NJ). The only preople hyperventilating about are right wing news (it’s the top of the FOX chryon right now).

3) how is any of this discussion revolve around pushing liberal appalled former GOP voters back to Trump, as was your original thesis?

i get how concerned you are about Joe Biden. I think we all understand how your care for his candidacy is forcing you to raise this issues in a thread full of former GOP voters. That’s my point about Mitt Romney in 2012.

I look forward to expletive laden reply and a quick follow up by another of the boards concern trolls.

Regarding point #3, I can't imagine why former GOP voters would return to Trump. He seems a little like the BSC ex-girlfriend that even you jaded fellows know better than to dial up and say, "hey baby." If they feel inclined to go in that direction, their feet were already turned that way anyway and this is rationalization. My neighbor has been somewhat honest about a growing realization that he is not good for our country and has decided she will vote in the other races and sit out the presidential vote so she doesn't feel conflicted about voting for Biden. As to whether she is being honest about not casting that vote, I cannot say. That part is her call alone.

One of the things that has shocked me about Trump is the complete absence of the emergence of any small stories of any humanity or grace.  Not an appropriate comparison, but five years ago when Hannity hate was pretty universal, you'd hear stories that he was a really great boss and there were stories of his generosity.    Have I just missed any such stories about Trump?  The help to the caddy with the sick child?  Being nice to a puppy.  Any kind of gesture of kindness?

I might be blocking it, but I just can't think of anything.  Is there even a Rosebud?

Sleepy Joe vs Mormon Mitt?

This is just from a guy I know on the Internet but it seems extremely plausible.

Quote

1. There will not be an in-person RNC this year. Some places like Dallas will be polite and say it is due to COVID concerns. It is actually because they know the protests will make this week’s action pale in comparison, as they will be focused all in 1 city the entire time. 2. They will replace Trump with Romney as candidate.

This will result in limited but containable protests from DT’s hard core supporters. It is also the only way the Republican Party can save itself from total collapse in the Fall. In this scenario, no matter what, DT won’t be in office 7 months from now. The Rs will partner with Democrats to remove him regardless of who wins the election. We have no guarantee of that if it is DT vs Biden.

Too crazy? Maybe, but seeing Romney marching today certainly opened that up as a possibility.

How would #2 go down? Right now that's sort of the ???? before the "profit."

The Republican Party is a private organization. It could scrap its nomination rules tomorrow if it wanted to.

I think it's about as likely as the two cent shares for Hillary Clinton on predict it. The GOP has made its bed.

Convincing Trump to step down is impossible.

Besides, it would be like excising a tumor but leaving the malignancy. No. What's needed are several rounds of chemo in the form of a mauling at the hands of American voters.

It's a silly prediction.

Frustrating to see people concoct these fantasies, as it seems some still naively believe that the GOP has some sense of morality or responsibility coursing through their veins. Republican politicians lost their way decades ago, and the last 3.5 years have proven they are basically traitors to this country.

For the 50th time, Trump is now the GOP. He owns them.

Plausible? I don't think so. That sounds like an idea floated by Senators afraid of losing. I can't feature it happening. But, the scriptwriters this year are stone crazy so I suppose it's a viable option.

He's finished. We've already seen some of the rats jump ship (Murkowski, Collins). The Tom Cottons of the world  will posture to curry favor with their base, but there is literally no single politician on either side of the aisle ('cept maybe Matt Gaetz and Mike Pence) who doesn't want him gone.

Romney gives the GOP a real chance at winning. Trump does not. Now that the Pentagon has told him to get fucked, he knows he can't call shenanigans on the election results. If I were him I'd be calling in chits with the Saudis in hopes of getting a palace with a nice ocean view. Putin will double cross his ass too...

Y'all, I told y'all on the old site that there would be a military coup before this presidency was out. I said at the time that tanks would not be rolling down Pennsylvania Ave. In fact I described something like what just happened on Monday. The Pentagon has pretty much declared Trump a domestic enemy of the Constitution and told him he's on his own.
