From Voldemort's link. "There is no real path forward to reelection for Trump without winning Florida."

I hadn't really thought of the map that way, so I played around with the numbers some, giving Florida to Biden. If you then give Trump Ohio, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania.... Biden still wins.

RoxAk.png

Here's 270towin's scenarios for a Trump win. If he loses Florida, then he loses the election (as of right now): https://www.270towin.com/road-to-270-combinations/?mapstr=22201311106162122221135522202251351621012226431102216202&party=R

Keep in mind that doesn't mean whomever wins Florida wins the election - Biden can lose Florida and still has several combinations that lead to a win.

See I don't get this.  I'm in my prime earning years right now, and under the current tax plan, I've gone from being pretty close to not having to write a check on tax day to $6k last year and $9k this year.  I'm trying to figure out how this isn't murdering his support.

I know a bunch of mid-high earners (probably low 1-2%, say 200k plus, but under 500k), and a bunch of low earners (retirees) well enough to talk about their taxes.  I don't know anyone whose taxes have gone down.  Most of the mid-highs got murdered by the property tax deduction removal.

But, it's like everything else Trump does.  Little of it helps and much of it hurts his base.  They vote against their interest, but not in an altruistic way.

Are you actually paying more taxes or are your numbers for the amount withheld from your paycheck wrong? I know a lot of people got a surprise when they filed taxes thinking they were paying more when in fact they just didn't adjust their withholding to account for the new law. Lots of people needed to submit a new W4. I know my taxes went down and I actually got money back where I haven't in the past, but I also switched jobs and had to do a new W4 and the allowances were different this time.

I mean I could change my allowance to 0 I guess, but that seems wrong since I'm married filing jointly.  My taxes have gone up pretty substantially.

As I finish up my 2019 taxes, that's exactly how I am.  The cap on the state- and local-tax deduction has hammered me.

Few people actually understand the tax code nor how or why they may pay more or less taxes as prime earning years are rarely static (Tuition, moving homes, buying property, cashing out RSU's, escalating comp, etc, etc), so there's always an excuse built in.  What people do understand and what the GOP has exploited is nobody likes paying taxes.  Some may understand it's need or accepted the need of it, but nobody likes to, especially when you consider how wasteful the government machine is and then sprinkle a good ole bit of public corruption and sentiment is less taxes for small government is better.  Now, most of us understand this sentiment is naive and silly in association with these (and most of the GOP tax cuts in the last 2 decades +) specific tax cuts but people are typically simple, even the folks making 200k - 1m annually in gross income.  Paying taxes sucks is ingrained in the psyche of Americans so when they hear tax cuts and then they see their 401ks continue to grow, they are content.  It may be LCD thinking but it's worked for 40 years.

Yeah I'm figuring out that its the non federal tax deduction limitations that have so completely changed my tax outlook.  My accountant has already also provided me with my quarterly estimated tax payment requirements which I've never had to do before.  Looks like I'm going to have to pay $10k in September and $3k in January, so yeah whatever has changed, I'm getting fucked.

Exactly. Trump's base of non-educated whites don't realize that he's truly screwing them over. They just hear "you can be racist" and vote for the guy. As a comedian said recently (Trevor Noah, maybe?) Trump despises the vast majority of the people that vote for him. He'd never be caught dead with any of them in person, allow them in his clubs, or allow them on his properties.

As a property tax ‘expert’ I’ve tried explaining that the trump tax plan is actually a total nut kick for upper middle class Texans and above.

If you are paying more than the max deduction for property taxes in Texas then it's highly unlikely that you are middle class.

Bullshit. I get emails like this daily from his top people:

President Trump LOVES America, and he isn’t ashamed of it.

While the Radical Left TERRORIZES our communities, OUR President took bold and decisive action to PROTECT our great Nation’s monuments and statues by swiftly signing an Executive Order that is in FULL FORCE AND EFFECT.

Rest assured, Un-American THUGS who choose to illegally destroy our America’s history will be prosecuted to the FULLEST extent of the law.

As a REAL Patriot and as one of our TOP supporters, we need YOU to step up and show the Left that you support your President 100%.

Do you stand with President Trump right now, Friend?

We're sending him a list of every Patriot who proudly signs their name to support the President's Executive Order, and we know he's expecting to see your name on there.

Yes, I actually got this today. You have to be really low iq or in a nursing home to believe this shit. He knows his base well though.

Yeah, I get those as well.  Mostly to see (from both sides) what buzzwords they are pushing to get a rise.  The DNC or some group similar has been throwing up the "USPS in peril!" stuff.

The "Trump list - get on it" last week was all about "we're giving President Trump a list of names just before he goes on stage at Mount Rushmore - will your name be on it?" hilarity.

It's incredibly discouraging to see so many people (including political pundits!) taking Kanye seriously.

I give it as much credence as this guy's Presidential run:

Trump’s approval rating will be in the 30s by next month. At that point you will see Republican leaders trying to distance themselves from him just to save their own asses. There is a greater than zero chance (in the parlance of our resident ledge sitters) that he doesn’t even stand for reelection.

Already seeing it as even Lady G has started to try and separate himself from the Trump wagon.  As for Trump leading some type of coup if he loses, some of you greatly underestimate the cowardice of the average Republican politician in Washington.  These geriatrics are not the least bit interested in taking to the streets.  A few deranged cultists will shoot up a couple of places believing they are starting the boogaloo.  Some will cosplay their way to the grave.  Some will sit in prison for a few decades.  None will accomplish anything of historical note.  There will be election shenanigans, but those most apt to do the dirty are already deep in Trump territory.  The GOP has managed to polarize themselves into a corner.  There is no growth opportunity for their current brand.

Just vote.

Would enjoy seeing some strict “law and order” on trumps base. I’m talking about the fucking morons who will riot with AK-47’s after their orange god loses.

Did my part today answering a DMN/UT Tyler poll.  Told them I was a Conservative voting for Biden with very strong disapproval of Trump.

They asked me if I thought the Pandemic would lead to civil unrest.  I said no, it didn't in Europe or Asia, the difference is Trump's lack of leadership and bad advice, that is what could lead to civil unrest.

They also asked me about Dan Patrick's statement about finding God will lead to a cure or something like that.

The lack of thought that must have been present to say this is truly astounding.

Umm, quick question if I may Liz...How exactly does changing the word men to the word people = socialism?  I'll hang up and listen.

So in a race in which they're desperately trying to win back some of their losses among suburban women, this is the hill on which they have decided to die?

yes, it's odd.

basically their one strategy, if you can call it that, is to suggest biden as someone who's been co-opted by the ultra-woke extreme radical left.  so any progressive thought, plan, or maneuver will be painted by that brush.

I get that.  But the irony is that in trying to portray Biden as far-left, they actually succeed only in showing themselves to be far-right.

What a bizarre situation we're in where Biden clearly has Trump and his team shook and on the ropes and he needs to just go ahead and finish them off. And finishing them off looks like him continuing to do absolutely nothing.

It's got to be maddening for Team Trump to not have any easy low hanging fruit to attack Biden with and give him a cutesy label ala "Crooked Hillary", and watching Joe just sit back and do nothing and give them nothing to work with. I don't know if this was his master plan or if it's just that as an old white man that's "likeable" he's just as teflon as Trump, but he's got Trump in quicksand. It's awesome to watch them flail. Fuck them.

Let's play some advance chess here - who are the REAL contenders for the Biden VP selection & what will Trump's kindergarten name or attempted slur be?

We already know Warren is "Pocohontas"...

 - Duckworth:  Tammy "No Record to Stand On"
 - Kamala Harris:
 - Val Demings: "Mickey Mouse Cop"

It's going to be something cop related in order to try to peel some of the black vote back (won't work), and or "crazy" related because he considers women to be hormonal and stupid.
