I think I've mentioned this before on Surly, but I have a friend who was very close with Eric Trump when they were kids.  Eric would go on trips all the time with my friend's family, as Daddy Trump was never really around.  He was sorta friends with Jr. (aka "Donnie") as well.

He described Eric and Donnie has generally nice guys with understandable douche tendencies. They pretty much had no relationship with their dad, and it wasn't until after they graduated from college when they joined the family business that they actually became closer to Donald. Then they quickly morphed into the dipshits you see now. My friend wasn't close with Eric after high school, but to his surprise was asked to be a groomsmen at Eric's wedding. My buddy returned the favor and Eric was in his wedding as well.

Said friend and his wife are very liberal, and it still infuriates her to see Eric Trump in their wedding photos. Lulz.

Literally said Joe Biden has not stepped foot outside of his house in 4 months, is totally incapable of answering unscripted questions, can't form a cohesive thought, and "does not have the aptitude to debate my father."

I do appreciate them setting the bar essentially on the floor for Biden. Not particularly to hard to clear considering he just finished a perfectly normal 30 minute speech at a factory in PA.

That's a big fucking basement he's hiding in.

He was also at the George Floyd funeral.

I am trying to understand these Donald Trump ads that keep showing videos of civil unrest and chaos as if that's what it would be like under a Biden Presidency. The videos are of civil unrest and chaos happening under the Trump Presidency.

And where are these riots happening? All this violence and civil unrest is happening somewhere apparently 🤷🏽‍♂️

Maybe I should have put the question in the Covid thread but I was thinking about the response across the country and how it might be different from an action/messaging standpoint if the election was soon. Personally, I think it'd be wildly different if the election was near.

Yeah if the election was near then there'd be a lot more election coverage.

We’re getting into territory that Biden actually needs Trump’s fall to temporarily stop. If it continues like this into the convention, trump may face pressure to bring Nikki onto the ticket if not drop out himself, allowing her to run. While I don’t know if that would cause Joe to lose, it’s much better for him to face Trump/Pence.

While reading various financial websites I am starting to see an increase in headlines about "If Biden wins the stock market is going to crash".  Comments are about what you would expect; "Biden is a socialist that will tax us into poverty." blah blah fucking blah.  They scared.

Sorry you dipshits, but the survival of our democracy is a lot more important than our fucking 401k's at this point.  Fix democracy then 401k's will take care of themselves.  It might be a bumpy road as the ultra-wealthy no doubt will throw a shit fit by selling stocks; but there will be a point where they cave in and get aboard.  Should be some better buying opportunities along the way rather than buying in at all time highs with 30% of America missing their housing payments and record unemployment.

Trump switching VPs will not change the outcome of the election.  And there is no way Trump drops out.  So he will either win in a similar but more shocking way than he did in 2016, or he will lose.

The current odds of Biden winning are already priced into the market.  Anyone saying the market will crash is either a fool or a liar.

They're just ginning up the worst of their base with statements like that, the Qanon everything is a huge Democrat funded pedophilia ring bullshit.

Desperation like that will have consequences, and it won't be hurting Biden.

Csb time.  My wife saw a patient yesterday that started ranting about how if the libruhls win the election in November, he's afraid it's going to destroy the country.  As if we are on some skyrocketing trajectory at the moment.  He then went on to tell a story about how he was kicked out of a restaurant in Kyle for spouting trumpkin propaganda out loud and bothering other customers.  The police were called and he went to jail for disturbing the peace, but it wasn't fair because he was just trying to tell people the truth.

These people are not well.

Same here with my family, although it's my dad who will sit this one out while my stepmom will vote for Trump because of socialism (while she accepts bailout money and woman owned business status for her small business).

With Darren Sproles as Secretary of State and Greg Davis as Secretary of Defense?

He was dead silent about it for weeks and I cracked wise about it during that timeframe, but Trump is back to claiming "Obamagate" again as a parenthetical to the Stone/Cohen jailtime news.  I'll give the senile fuckface credit, he rolled back into the same talking points though without skipping a beat, about how they spied on his campaign, it's the biggest political conspiracy ever, would rock the foundation of our Republic, etc.

He needs to further rile his base up.  And he needs to distract from the recent batch of horrible Covid-19 news.  And he needs a legal win in the judiciary realm.

There is absolutely no better way to do that than throw your base/the media/the courts a huge heap of red meat.  Finally tell us, after six months of tip-toeing around it, what evidence you have the Obama-Biden White House spied on your campaign?  What a huge slam dunk for you.  Your base gets to feel like once again that Obama and Hillary were/are the boogeymen.  The Media would talk about it for weeks instead of the pandemic and black lives matter, all attention shifted back to you.  And you'd be able to demonstrate the flaws in our legal system, that men of honor like Stone and Cohen get harassed while

Exactly the question I ask when someone spouts off about socialism. Did you cash your stimulus check?

Wow, as much as that would give erections to several posters on here.  I swore I finished my thought before we all had to run off to a lunch meeting.

well, assume it was something pithy about Stone and Cohen are patriots and Trump just needs to leak like one specific idea about how Obama-Biden were in on the campaign spying.  Just one token assertion.

Man, not sure how to feel about this, but I've noticed that the NYC polling nerd mafia (Enten, Silver, Cohn) are all echoing each other today and seem to be in the early stages of writing Trump's 2020 epitaph.

All of these guys were pretty careful back in 2016 pointing out that Trump was only behind within a normal polling error range and that Dems were being overconfident in the strength of the Blue Wall in MI/WI/PA.

On the contrary, today's posts are basically all "The polling story right now is simple and nearly unanimous. Things are fucked all over and voters give Trump terrible marks for he has handled them. He is in an extremely deep hole..."

Well all but the "Primary Model" guy who is digging in and says that Trump now has a 91 percent chance at being re-elected

He also claims that Trump will win more electoral votes than he did last time.

https://www.newsweek.com/professor-who-accurately-predicted-25-out-27-elections-predicts-trump-2020-win-1516609

One note is that the first link references the May Gallup approval poll where Trump was at 49% but he's now at 38% in the most recent Gallup approval poll. I don't know what numbers the dude is looking at that indicate an increase in approval.

These people are not well.

This might be the most “evangelical” thing about trump supporters - the belief they have an obligation to persuade non-believers.  Does this have a name?  If not, I submit “T-vangelicals” or, depending on the dossiers veracity, “Pee-vangelicals”.

Other interesting nuggets from that poll:

Abbott's approval rating remains high (I expected this), with 55 percent approving or strongly approving vs 32 percent disapproval.

Abbott's COVID approval positive, but less so, at 49-40.

Generic statehouse ballot 52-47... in favor of Democrats (I did not expect this)

Cornyn runs similarly ahead of both Democratic candidates, 42-29 over Hegar and 43-28 over West. 22 & 23 percent undecided. Hegar leads west 35-22 in the runoff poll, 32 percent undecided though. 11 percent other which is pretty interesting given there's not another option, but okay.

Just now, Hank Kingsley said:

If the Biden campaign promises to put in the resources to compete in Texas, the amount of $$ donations that will come in will basically amount to a blank check.

What makes you say that? Hasn’t the consensus thus far been “don’t spend resources chasing Texas?”

I will donate a lot more money if they are willing to spend and compete here. I think many others will feel the same way.
