Nobody else sees the death spiral tightening?

The fact that trump is the president means it’s obvious the death spiral is tightened and it’s incumbent on all normal right thinking individuals to do whatever they can to stop that by opposing trump at all costs.

Including you.

And like him!  But as I said- I’m not holding him up as a stand in for Horatio Alger just like I’m not holding Hillary up as the exemplar of the idea that a woman can accomplish whatever she wants independent of a man.
I welcome someone like Harris breaking through that glass ceiling. It’s not sexist. It’s literally the embodiment of the idea that a woman can accomplish whatever she wants in her own right without having to draft off her husbands, fame, notoriety or wealth. It’s awesome. I’d have said the same about Warren. Or Klubacher. Or Carly Fiarina. But not Elizabeth Dole.

First let me point out that on this one point I agree with you. That said, you do not have a grasp of what objective facts are.

Nope. I’m a moron and a chavanist and ridiculous and everyone that sees the objective fact that Hillary’s political career was launched by being married to Bill is carrying water for the dumbest human being (me) on this board.
Also, it’s a world where you cleverly bring up an objection of what about 1,2 and 3 you ever think about that you big dumb dumb, when literally 2 of the 3 were already mentioned and the third was tossed aside (cousin) for a closer familial relationship (son) as being ever so slightly more on point.

I do. I differentiate objective fact from opinion all the time. The fact that Hillary’s political career was launched by her Being Bills husband is objective fact. It’s not arguable.

Opinion: because her husband was Bill Clinton.

No need for him to paraphrase that. If he said it just like that our household would stand as one and applaud.

Willie Brown is trying to stay relevant but the times they are a-changin, even if the GOP wants time to stop at 1950.

Why are you derailing this to being about whether Hillary Clinton is a Horatio Alger?  She has next to nothing to do with the subject of this thread, and you're complaining about Hillary not being a roll model to your daughters.

Sure, it's an objective fact that Hillary's career was launched by her marriage.  But the fact that you feel the need to argue this in a thread about the 2020 election says volumes.  Why do you have more to say about someone who retired from politics than all the privileges the current president (who is actually a subject of this thread), enjoyed from his wealthy family including federal judge sister?  Or discussion of Harris?

I've heard enough blatant misogyny and chauvinism (which I can actually spell, but thank you for calling me a "big dumb dumb") in the past 24 hours to have less than zero patience for it.

It actually started with him praising Harris in contrast to, as an example, Clinton. The derail was prompted by all the white knighting for her.

If you want to say her political life took off after Bill, find I guess. Seems a bit disingenuous to me, but I guess you could make that argument. But to say she underachieved is frankly disgusting and, yes, sexist. She was successful by pretty much any measure, even among Yale law school graduates.  I say all this not even liking her that much. But I sure as shit respect what she accomplished and her dedication to providing legal representation to those that usually can't get it.

Read what I wrote again dude- that wasn’t what you quoted as disagreeing with.
see- this is my issue- I said her political career was launched by being bills spouse and that was objective fact. Which it is.
then you called me dumb and said “because her husband was Bill Clinton” which is literally not at all what I said. Those two statements are completely different. One is objectively, factually true- which is the one I said was objectively factually true, and the other one is opinion that I never said, with invective thrown in for good measure.
tou are being completely and totally intellectually dishonest and you are twisting my words to be something that I didn’t say, then you are ascribing to me a position I didn’t take, and then you are personally insulting me for having this “dumb” opinion that’s not, actually, you know, my opinion at all.

Primary. It's not going well for a Kennedy. Having a name that someone else had is no guarantee. There are no self made humans. Everyone gets some help. Ross Perot got a loan from his secretary. Whee.

The fact that they cannot see that until very, very recently women in America could not get to those heights is not lost on me.

The fact that women currently make up 25% of the Senate and 23% of the House despite being 51% percent of the population is testament to that.

Hell, there have only been 57 women Senators in our nation’s history.

Hillary had to use Bill as a stepladder because there weren’t any other options when she was starting out in the 70s. She was born in 1947, FFS.

She drafted off the Clinton name to blaze a trail so Kamala and AOC and others that came after her didn’t have to. Yet here we are, comparing women of different times in order to put one woman down.

Some of y’all need to learn to check your casual misogyny. Your daughters will learn from you.

Again- read what I wrote. Her political career was launched by being flotus.
Teddy Roosevelt’s political career was launched by his charge up the hill in San Juan. W’s political career was launched by being the Bush last name. Obamas political career (national level) was launched by his 2004 keynote speech. Reagan’s political career was launched by being an actor. Ted Cruz political career was launched by being the Zodiac killer. None of these are at all a controversial statement. Go have another drink and send your impotent rage and invective in some other direction.

Here's what I'll saw about that:

Who is Angela Merkel's husband?

Who is Jacinda Arden's husband?

Who was Benazir Bhutto's husband?

Who was Margaret Thatcher's husband?

Ok--maybe you got those last two.  But only because Denis Thatcher was delightful, and because Asif Ali Zardari was elected President of Pakistan a year after Bhutto's assassination.

The point being that the first women to hold the premierships of Germany, the UK and New Zealand and the presidency of Pakistan did so in their own right.  They didn't get there by Ma Fergusoning that shit.

Sorry, but without being married to Bill, Hillary would never have been a senator representing New York; she never would have been SecState.  She would've been a reasonably successful lawyer in private practice.  Nothing wrong with that.  But it's not POTUS.

Well said.

I am reminded that Hillary was a patent infringement specialist at the Rose Law Firm.  Lmao.  No one at the Rose Law Firm knew a patent from a pair of shiny shoes in the 80s and before.

She's smart, yes, and probably a hard worker, so she might have had a decent legal career, but even her pre-flotus legal career was entirely Bill.

So in other words, you are agreeing with me!  Hey, consensus and a bit of intellectual honesty at last!
I’m happy Harris and the others I mentioned can make their way on their own. I’m happy that I can tell my daughters they now live in a world where such a thing is possible.
I strongly hope (and suspect it will be Harris) that this first woman to make it makes it independently of her marital status.
And for fucks sake I wasn’t even blaming Hillary btw. It was absolutely the world that she lived in that made “marry well” the first and most important rule for how far a woman can advance. And that fucking sucks as someone who loves my daughters. And I’m delighted that they now live in a world where a woman can make it to the highest office without drafting off of her husband. It’s a cause for fucking celebration.
ih wait- no it isn’t. It’s a cause to tell me I’m a moron.

FFS, is there a reason you keep having to bring up a woman "drafting off her husband"?   Can't you just teach your daughters that they live in a world where they can accomplish things and be independent if they want to and make their own ways?  It's possible to teach them those things without denigrating other women, especially a woman old enough to have not enjoyed the opportunities your daughters do.  Why bring up what a woman who came of age at a time when there were very few female lawyers, never mind female Senators, and zero female Secretaries of State, used her marriage as a stepladder?

Edit to add: you can also teach them to vote, and work to vote out the misogynist in the WH who wants to take the world back to a time when women weren't independent, but were apparently "housewives" afraid of "low income housing" and needed a man to protect them from minorities and immigrants.

Wasn't sure where to put this.  Cannot take credit for it, but neither can i provide who wrote it.  Found it on Twitter.

Now that the Democratic President-Vice President ticket is set, and Vice President Biden with Senator Harris are going to be the Democratic ticket on the November ballot, I figured now is a good time to remind everyone that:
1. You're not just voting for President.
2. You're voting to prevent a 7-2 dangerous conservative majority on the Supreme Court.
NOTE: 87 year old Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is single-handedly fighting off all 10 plagues so she can hang on until we get rid of Cheeto Satan. This alone should be enough for historic turnout!
3. You're voting for the next Secretary of Education, Housing Secretary and Attorney General.
4. You are voting for the "down" ballot, as well......to keep the House and to gain majority of the Senate in Congress.
5. You're voting for federal judges.
6. You're voting for the rule of law.
7. You're voting for saving national parks.
8. You're voting for letting kids out of cages.
9. You're voting for clean air and clean water.
10. You're voting for scientists to be allowed to speak and do something to protect us from climate change and pandemics.
11. You're voting for greater transparency and confidence that the President isn't using your tax dollars as a slush fund for his family and friends.
12. You're voting for housing rights.
13. You're voting for former incarcerated persons to be treated with dignity and assisted to be proud and productive members of society when they return.
14. You're voting for everyone to be able to adopt a child without a lot of red tape.
15. You're voting for Dreamers.
16. You're voting so that there will be Social Security and Medicare when you retire...and in your children's future.
17. You're voting for veterans to get the care they deserve.
18. You're voting for rural hospitals.
19. You're voting so that everyone can have access to affordable health insurance.
20. You're voting for teaching to be treated like the noble profession that it is and for teachers to be paid like the heroes they are.
21. You're voting to have a President who doesn't embarrass this country every time he attends an international meeting.
22. And you're voting against allowing the USA to become yet another authoritarian regime.
23. You're voting for sensible gun laws.
24. You're voting for children born to Military Troops overseas to still be counted as US citizens.
25. You’re voting to curb homelessness and find solutions to affordable housing.
26. You’re voting to take measures to end the racial asset and wealth disparities.
27. You're voting to defend women's reproductive rights and a woman's right to make all health related decisions regarding her body.
28. You're voting to acknowledge the humanity and protect the safety of our family and friends in the LGBTQ+ community.
29. You're voting to stop the normalization of white supremacy and dangerous bigotry in the mainstream.
30. You're voting to rebuild a functional CDC to help prevent or eradicate dangerous pandemics like the coronavirus.
I know we can't all agree on everything. Now, this is a two candidate race between Vice President Biden and Cheeto Satan. Those are our only choices. One of them will be our President as a result of this election.
The Biden-Harris ticket isn't perfect. No ticket ever was and no ticket ever will be. Perhaps, for whatever reason, Vice President Biden and/or Senator Harris don't pass your purity test. Just know this, they will be much better than four more years of Cheeto Satan and Piglet. We must do all we can to ensure that the Biden-Harris ticket wins!!

There is that and it is kinda grimy, but it was apparently brief, and it appears that Willie has gently undermined her ever since.

Hillary isn't a terrible role model, but I think there are many better.  Elizabeth Warren, RBG, Ann Richards, Sandra Day O'Connor, Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Dole.  And so on and so forth.

No offense intended. And actually the opposite intended. The interparty sniping is not productive. Those things you are fighting for are also progressive goals. We see more eye to eye than anyone thinks. We settled and made peace with it. This is not the same Party as it was in 2016. The Democratic Party has been far more responsive to the changing progressive tilt this Party has taken. Progressive policies are good for us all. There are no losers with progressive policies. Even Trump voters get a better America with progressive policies that advance humanity. And . . .  it is demographics. because this is where all of humanity is moving as we enter this new age of innovation. A rising tide lifts all boats.

The time is done for Democrats to fight with other Democrats.

It is a big tent. We even have a pet zoo of Country Club Republicans voting Democratic. That is awesome. Their input on matters of state and economics is welcomed counsel.

Quote

But the interparty Democratic Party fights are not their battles.

Policy is not their battle to fight.

They are experts on how one loses a political party to Donald Trump. They know know what deals were proposed and implemented. They fight Trump, not Democratic Party policy.

Some will be back to the Republican Party HQ as soon as we perform pest control as Democrats.

Society already pays for all of the deficiencies created by austerity programs for 50 years. And our austerity programs have put our economic standing at grave risk. The costs of austerity are coming home to roost because of our dismal response to COVID. The virus exposed our weaknesses and they are gaping. And the wealth gap continues to widen - during a pandemic. That is a system out of whack.

Unfortunately - the world sees it and thinks of America as a Potemkin Village surrounding an enormous open pit mine where the vast majority of America resides. They are having a crisis of confidence in our ability to manage the world's reserve currency status. That is a huge deal. Trump does not have a clue how to manage this crisis and his economic advisors are ineffective.

Biden is the obvious choice as a President who will come in and steady the ship over Trump. There is no alternative - to save the nation from economic degradation. Once stabilized in 2022 - he should have assembled the best policies for ensuring the United States remains respected and trusted, there will be an election in 2024. It will probably be Senator Harris as the centrist pick against a center/center left candidate in the primaries. I hope Vice President Harris has the respect of the entire nation if she decides to run. That will have meant the Biden Administration did a fine job in finding equilibrium in the nation.

Senator Harris listened after she stepped out of the race. And she acted on what she heard. Great pick by Biden and his team. Senator Harris has the demeanor and intellect to listen to voters and work on their behalf.

TLDR: Lower your weapons. We are on the same team. You do what you do best to beat Trump. Eyes on the political foe - not the Longhorn or progressive friend next to you. Be like Senator Harris - she assessed the problem, identify areas to improve, put promises into action, and remained a serious political figure in this Country. She should be an inspiration to us all.

Vice President Harris will serve this nation well.

Her political career started before she married Bill, man. So no, you are not stating objective fact. She might never have gotten to the level she did without a detour of her career to marry bill and raise a kid, but she was going into politics either way. Why the fuck are we talking about this?
