Very interesting thread on a mask grift/scam that took place in Texas.

I couldn't complete this. It's too mortifying. The penalty for this should be archipelago severe, which, come to think of it, isn't really that much different than one of our other national shames, our prison system.

I assume much of this was made possible by the White House turning supply over to Jared "Let 'Em Die" Kushner instead of a simple government system that was likely already in place to prevent this wickedness.

We're like a banana republic populated by hypnotized diabetics being run by the Russian Mob.

Well after what happened with the Dallas hair salon and refusing to close and getting away with it, what’s to stop bars from doing the same?

She only got away with it because Abbott purported to preempt local regulations.

Because this is coming from Abbott, that won't be an issue this time.

Which is not to say that any fuckos emboldened by Abbott's prior stupidity are going to obey.

Abbott could not have fucked this up any worse had it been his intention to do so.  However, I'll believe it when I see it when it comes to him paying a price for this disaster.

It does seem like all of his decisions are a week or two after they should have been made.

Abbott is the type that if there was a fire in an enclosed room, he would want to peek in to see if the lack of oxygen had killed the flames yet. Just open the door real quick.

The economy has to factor into decisions but his rapid opening has lead to cases that wouldn't have occurred, which creates more cases and more deaths. There is no doubt that a slower reopening would have kept the numbers down. No doubt.

From perusing the Houston news networks' FB posts regarding this new closure, most of the lumpens appear to believe it is not Abbot's fault and instead we have failed him by not wearing masks and social distancing. lmao.

Yea, we all let him down by not displaying the personal responsibility to figure out what to do by picking which mixed message to follow.

I'm sure his strategy as captain of the ship will work just great.

"Captain, we have two gashes in the hull taking in water!"

"Quickly, men! Repair one of them!"

So it's settled then, no masks!

honestly, the disconnect between opening up and the wearing of masks being politicized is the most frustrating thing about abbott's approach. you stupid fuckstick, listen to the science, make masks mandatory and then open up.

I love judge hidalgo our if Harris county. At first I was sad when judge ed lost, but she has proven to be an amazing replacement.   Smart, articulate, and comes off as legitimately caring.

she has a bright future.  It a shame she was born in Colombia. No chance at being president.

I'm sure his EO sounded like a good idea politically when he issued it.  But he's really backed himself in the corner.  Without it, he could blame others for the decisions that need to be made.   With it, he owns this thing.  So now he's "damned if you do, damned if you don't" fucked.

And what sucks for all of us is that this--like so many other important things in our lives--has been politicized into tribalism.  And we can't seem to work together or agree upon facts related to science, all of our livelihoods, or our health.  It's a "you bad, me good" thing.  And it fucking sucks.

We're weak as fuck as a country right now, and boy does it show.

He's gonna go about this completely backwards.  Shut down the bars and gyms, slow down testing, allow local leaders to modify orders, make masks mandatory, ramp up testing, make masks optional, go back to statewide mandates, open the bars and gyms.

I cannot for the life of me understand why he gives so much of a shit about appeasing the Trump block.  He's indicated he's not seeking re-election in 2022.  Shit, maybe he is now.  Gonna have a tough time touting this Covid record though.

This.  It's just so fucking pointless.  I mean, there is no fucking reason for it, no gain by it.  It's fucking nihilist death cult bullshit, but they are fully committed, Thelma and Louise style, and don't you dare tell them they're wrong, you communistsocialistpussylibtard!

The entire country isn’t weak as fuck.  There’s a deplorable 30% bringing us down but we can rise above that bullshit.  We are lucky this hit in an election year.  People forget shit too fast.  The bodies will barely be cool by November.  Then we can stick our collective boot up Trump’s ass.

Some really love to play with the numbers to confuse their audience. The numbers from TMC indicate there are many more non-COVID patients in the ICU. And those patients are not there to take a nap. They're there because their health demands it and they're not going away just because of COVID.

And yes, the ICU rate is lower in this wave than the first but the great increase in COVID hospitalizations has overwhelmed the ICUs. Patrick needs to go.

Well, Pence just admitted ICU admits are way up in those 16 hot states because of Covid19 spikes.  Unless Dan is jealous that Pence gets to spend so much more time near Trump's balls?  So he's looking to differentiate himself from Pence to curry more favor with the President.  I guess we'll know by how Dan greats him at Love Field next week.

ABILENE, Texas — The City of Abilene said it will not enforce Governor Greg Abbott's executive order to shut down bars and limit outdoor gatherings of more than 100 people. Instead, City Manager Robert Hanna is encouraging "all business owners and citizens to use common sense."

Reminder, you can vote by mail in Texas. You can print out the application here.

https://webservices.sos.state.tx.us/forms/5-15f.pdf

Election administrators cannot look into disability/sickness, can’t ask for proof, and you do not have to list what your sickness or disability is e.g.allergies, chronic back, foot, knee pain. If you think it will get worse by standing in line, apply for a mail in ballot.

This is not surprising at all from that shithole of a city.

Maybe Greg will get his BFF Don to send in the National Guard to maintain law and order?

These fucking people against mail in voting.  It is actually chess in a trump checkers game.

We can all sensibly and safely vote in person if we are under 50.  Majority of people under 50 are gonna break for Biden.  People over 65 are gonna break for Trump and can already vote by mail. 50-65 is still vulnerable to virus, can’t vote by mail, and will probably be split between the two candidates.  I think we can all agree this is all more or less true.

Here’s why you block mail in voting expansion.  Volunteers.  Over half of Texas polling places, according to Secretary of State, are staffed by people over 65.  They’re not gonna go pull 14 days of volunteer duty and risk their health dealing with thousands of people everyday in red counties that won’t be wearing masks.  So we shut down polling locations that can’t be adequately staffed.  I bet 20% of polling locations are shut down completely and nearly half will have reduced hours.

when push comes to shove, Biden/anti trump voters will mask and glove up and go vote in person and forget about mail in bullshit.  But what if your polling location isn’t available because Doris and Conrad got cold feet about coming into work that week at the outset of flu season?

That’s where this is going.  The blocking of mail in is just to prevent  people from having a proactive way to vote in the inevitability their polling location is truncated.

This needs to be repeated again and again and again.  Download the form from your local district clerk.  Fill it out.  Check "Disability" and get a mail-in ballot.  It's that simple.

Seems like a waste of time.  We’ll just have to change it to re-re-opening in a week or two no matter what the data says.

Things have to be very bad to convince the dipshits in charge to reverse course.  Unfortunately for them, just because you half ass reverse course doesn't mean the giant avalanche is going to reverse course.  You can forget about re-opening more things over the next month or so.  The fact they backed off tells you exactly how bad it is.  Even politicians who can't see past their nose have bought in.  There's only one political 'leader' dumb enough to look this in the eye and keep opening up more shit and mocking masks...sadly that guy is the President.

I can't remember if I posted here or in the other COVID thread, but update on my granddad:

Not COVID, started feeling a lot better yesterday and is up walking around today, so he's headed home as I type this. Obviously that's a big relief and I sincerely want to thank everyone for their well wishes.

Wife's friend that got tested last Thursday still hasn't gotten her results yet, but is still very sick and basically doesn't have the energy to even get out of bed right now -- it seems likely the results will be positive whenever they eventually come in.

I did HEB curbside this morning in Leander and saw a significant improvement in people wearing masks compared to just earlier in the week, so hopefully the people that let their guard down or weren't taking it seriously before are getting on board.

Please clarify this for me: I could have sworn that the TX supremes said that election administrators or other officials are not REQUIRED to inquire about disability.... not that they are in fact prohibited from doing so. This is the one thing that gives me pause.
