Yeah when I’m thinking about avoiding death, part of that thinking is that I will avoid situations where 1 and a half of every 100 people in that situation die. I already caught the gay and the left handedness so I’m good at being on the wrong side of the odds.

Also as I think about this more, that’s a fucking despicable thing to use as reason to keep this thing in person. If they get the number of people they are expecting, 6000, and that 1.5% is accurate, that means that if COVID spreads at that convention they are killing 90 of their party members to meet in person, and that’s not even taking into account how many of those people will spread it around afterwards.

That’s a group of people who are looking for death.

This board is very left leaning.... For a college football message board for a southern university. It's an important qualifier. This board is center-right, it just isn't fucking texags or tigerdroppings or whatever.

I'd be curious to go check out a Cal board or something but I'm not sure such a thing exists.

BearInsider forums. Pretty decently active.

Haha. There is no such thing as a California college football message board and if one does exist, it’s just a bunch of fake troll accounts and spammers.

Trust me. I lived there for 3 years. The last thing anyone cares about out there is college football.

As I just pointed out, BearInsider is indeed quite an active board. Trust me, I lived there for 6 years (boom!) and did my PhD there.

Namealreadyinuse-----------A gay left-handed dude?  Man, you are so prolific  ;)      You prove my point, there are not gay or straight people and no right-handed or left-handed people (except those with only one arm---god bless 'em), we're all just on a spectrum.  I'm about 15% gay.  And I'm pretty close to ambidextrous, probably 60/40 right handed.

It's cool though that you have that one thing that can one-up everybody at a gay bar, "Oh yeah, well I'm left-handed as well!"  Then the some random in the corner spouts off with, "Oh yeah, well I have AB- blood."  And then we all have to yell, "Shut up Bruce, nobody cares!"

I do not understand this in-person convention idea.  They've already proven their point to their constituents.  Much to Rex Kramer's dismay, I was personally invited by the two state-wide elected officials to attend.  I respectfully declined because you know.....I'm pro-LIFE!   Not the abortion debate label thing, I just enjoy being alive for my two young daughters.

And whoever things this board is too left-leaning...you're out of your mind.  This is very much a Center-Right board overall/macro level.  What happened was you had a group of people educated at good schools who are successful in most metrics of life pause for a minute and turn on their thinking caps and now it sounds like we're whack-job leftists (and we do have those), but in reality we are just pragmatic realists.  I promise you, absolutely 100% PROMISE you, that I outrank you in the Republican Party.  I was asked by the RPT and TRCP and the candidate leaving her city council spot to run in her place for Council (2018) and then four years after that, get their full support to run for Mayor of Austin (2022).  Obviously, I declined and I instead endorsed a great replacement in Paige.  I have access to Cruz, Abbott, Williams, et. al. within 24 hours of a request for an in-person meeting.  I have done deals for the Bush family for a decade and my cousin gave the Eulogy at Nancy Reagan's funeral.  But you lump me in as some far-left fanatic because I pay attention to shit like facts and truth.  Rex Kramer would be happy to know...I am a longstanding and powerful Republican.  And President Trump needs to die yesterday.  Sorry the world hasn't adapted to your stupidity.

How is it possible that so many of these fucking dipshit R's planning their convention have a "medical condition" that prevents their use of a mask? Such horseshit. Jan Duncan, if you have such a condition then perhaps stay the fuck home and respect others, as opposed to all the HEB and other visits you plainly state you're making all the time. My dad has a fucking incurable lung condition of fibrosis, that no one knows why it happened, that impedes his breathing. He only goes to dr. appointments but when he does, he fucking wears a mask. Because you know what would make it even harder for him to breathe? Covid. And death. Because if he gets this shit, it's lights out. But the shitstains in charge of running our state can't be bothered to respect anything but their fucking bullshit fake feelings and rights regarding wearing a piece of gotdamn cloth.

Holy shit, I went to high school with someone on that GOP call.  Had no idea...  Yeah, if they go virtual, there are some great zoom bombs waiting to happen.

Edited to add.... is there not one Lincoln Project or Alumni of 43 for Biden person on the Texas Republican Party to stir some shit?  Or does that get shut down quickly?

Then ask for the in-person meetings and  24 hours from now tell them to quit adopting policies that are killing us - and to go fuck themselves if they don't.

I've always liked your posts, but you essentially just said you were a powerful Nazi with access to the Nazi insiders - but personally your were a good Nazi, and not a meanie at all.

So - congrats, I guess.   But tell me, what have you been doing the last 15 years as the GOP morphed into the party of hate and anti-science?  Did you support any of those fucks in their elections?  Because if you did, then I'm not giving you a God Damn kudo for not being as bad as the worst of them.

I just pulled a Democratic primary run-off ballot.  Again.  Not all GOP members are Nazis.  When you understand this, you'll understand the broader game.  I have to bundle money for Railroad Commissioners, et. al.  It's good for our oil concerns.  As for people like Dan Patrick and Donald Trump, we are wholly opposed to them and always have been.  This board went and decided that anybody who opposed Trump was a Hugo-sock for the socialist left.  And the other side decided that anybody who ever voted once for one Republican for local office (even though the GOP primary is effectively the general for many Texas races) is a Nazi.  The adults in the middle sit and wait and marshal resources.  And we do what's good for business so we can live to fight another day.  The fact of the matter is, and I've beaten this point to death, 120mm American adults didn't vote for Hillary or Trump.  We are awake now and ready to fuck shit up.

I doubt many doctors have proactively told their patients not to wear masks. Now if the patient lies and says that they are unable to breathe when wearing a mask, I’m sure their doctor will advise them to not wear a mask if it causes them to pass out. Which isn’t quite the same thing.

Next thing you know, I'm gonna have to wear a mask when I go SCUBA diving.  How far off the coast do I have to go to get away from your hoax-filled tyranny?  This is bullshit, I am a certified PADI master and I have rights!

After realizing I had only used tight fitting heavy quilter's fabric masks and hadn't used one of those disposable white/blue masks you see everywhere I got some to try it.

I put one on and ran up and back down 6 flights of stairs. Zero impairment. Those are so loose fitting and have big gaps on the sides so there's zero restrictions on breathing. Anyone using that argument is completely full of shit.

Well yeah, you actually didn’t have to run at all to know they were full of shit.

I was comparing it to my tight fitting ones which back in late March I went up 3 flights of stairs and didn't think to take it off. After I got to the top I had to remove it because I was completely winded and took a while to recover. Wanted to see the difference.

Turns out, being mindnumbingly stupid is a medical condition.  The Venn diagram on that condition and active members of the Trump GOP is just a single circle.

So, on the subject with "disability so can't wear mask", I tend to get claustrophobic on planes.  So about every 5 years I get a prescription of about 20 xanex for flying, or if I am going to be somewhere where there are going to be tight crowds. I end up not using most of them - they are there just in case.  (I almost lost my shit at a work function at Disney World many years ago on some ride called "Journey to Mars" or something where you are on a crew in some spaceship -- I'm losing my shit now thinking about it.  Being an Apollo astronaut is not on my fantasy go back in time bucket list.)

Anyhow, I got on the plane two days ago, wearing the mask.  It was SW flight and it was awesome -- all middle seats open.  I was feeling great, and didn't take one.

However, it started getting a bit warm as we sat on the tarmac and even though I could have lifted the mask, I kept it on, and there was  a bit of panic setting in, just thinking about the very very slight extra effort it took to breath through the mask.

I ended up not taking the pill because we took off and it got cooler.

Just mentioning because while the Trumpy "right not to wear a mask" folks are full of shit, if I see someone lose it while wearing a mask, I will give them the slightest benefit of the doubt.

Lobo, you may have doxxed yourself yourself with all the info you threw out.

A Republican in Texas?  Yeah, that really narrows the list.

Oh wait, a person who doesn't like Trump?  Oh yeah, now I get it.  You're right, there's only like seven of us.

There's nobody to know.  Hell, I only went to UT for 2.5 years, not even from Texas.  I'm off the grid man.  I'm a nobody.

Plus, I go by my maiden name.

Question about the gov's order: Does public include when I'm outside? Like if I'm waking my dog and it's 100 degrees outside and no one is around, am i supposed to wearing a mask? I wear one whenever people are around, inside or out. But not if nobody else is around. That still OK?

Yes. Personal exercise outside is totally fine provided you aren’t jumping on top of your “neighbor” in public. Then, you definitely both need a mask.

I believe it's limited to indoors or at least major public spaces/events outdoors, but even if it's not, the neighborhood dog walk you describe is absolutely unenforceable so you have nothing to worry about.

I'd wear one regardless inside. Respiratory droplets can circulate indoors for a little while. Best to limit the quantity emitted.

The only indoor location i don't wear one is my own house

Yes, from the exceptions/exemptions list in Abbott's order:

  • any person while the person is (a) exercising outdoors or engaging in physical activity outdoors, and (b) maintaining a safe distance from other people not in the same household;

Heathers was so subversive and offensive that it wouldn’t get made today.  If anything defines Gen X, it’s that.

A lot of movies back then wouldn’t get made today. Circle of life. In 50-60 years something like it will be made once again.

There is no definitive Gen X movie. Probably the same reasons they couldn’t come up with a better name than Gen X. It’s a nameless generation of latchkey kids. People born in late 60s probably identify more with Breakfast Club, and people in 70s probably identify more with Reality Bites or Singles, while lates 70s, first couple years identify with Mallrats or Clerks.
