Things you really just don't get...

Recommended Posts

Reason #37 to not fuss with traditional rental car services anymore.  Try Silvercar.  All you need is a smartphone to operate the car.  you can keep the fob buried in the car the whole time with the right cheat-code.

I have a buddy who has to travel all over the northeast for work and the two fobs tied off on that metallic ring made him insane.  So whenever he gets that setup, he takes a small multi-tool out of his checked bag, cuts the metallic wire and just keeps the one key on him and the other in his hotel room or carry-on bag.  Vast majority of the time, the agent feels bad that it frayed and broke on him and even apologizes.    Every now and again, he'll get a $10 or $25 replacement charge, but it's worth avoiding the annoyance factor.

Went to one of those at the beginning of August. However, the couple didn't make a big deal out of it, just wanted people to bring booze, burgers and barbecue as it was a cookout.

My best friend had one back in 2014. A year before his wedding. I had to go since I was going to be in the wedding.

If you're in the wedding, that's the only time when it's acceptable.

What if you like free booze and are trying to bang the bride’s slutty sister?

I dated a girl a couple of years ago who had a  cousin that was engaged. The family had 3 separate engagement parties for them. One was catered at her parent's house complete with bartenders, servers, a celloist and piano player,  vallet parking. Pretty sure that engagement party was nicer than the wedding.

If people want to piss their money away and give me free booze/food, who am I to judge?

Did you type that post on your phone? The device you keep near you 24 hours a day? While you eat, sleep, work, play, make love, have confidential conversations, decide whether or not to buy that new truck?  That listening device?

I love those people who refuse to “be monitored” while using an iPhone to post on the internet or social media like Facebook

Yes the cars are amazing.

The "races" are nothing more than a parade with very little "overtaking" as they call it. No drama whatsoever.

Sucks.

They do race.......on Saturday, against the clock.

On Sunday it's a contest of which teams can change tires fastest and who can avoid the most crashes.

And because of the disparity in racing budgets, the only teams which have any kind of realistic chance of winning are Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull.   Everyone else is just taking up space.

Well that is part of racing but not the only part.

The best part of racing is the part where cars are all bunched up and passing each other.

When I was younger, I uses hertz frequently. They let you walk right up and take your car then check out at the gate. I would complain that the car smelled like weed and there was tiny bits of ash that I wanted to make sure I wasn’t charged for. They would apologize and then make a note. Now, I was free to smoke weed in the car for my entire trip. Few thing in my life have worked 100% of the time like tha did.

That's a good life hack if you're a weed smoker.  I wonder what other drugs we can get it to work for?

Actually I think the pits, and the crash garage are the best parts.  Got to work NASCAR hospitality houses for a friend in the plumbing supply business. We got pass access to the entire in field including the drivers trailers for the whole weekend.   The races bored the shit out of me unless they were actually running right past you.

My buds co. were sponsoring the Petty racing team so we got to meet the King (RichardPetty of course), and hang with the crews, and drivers all weekend.   The drivers were all very cool, low key guys, very approachable.

We were at the Vegas race, and there was a rain delay. We were hanging around the pit area, and the Petty team was next to the Earnhardt team. The Earnhardt pit captain, sitting up in his lifeguard chair was passing time talking with us, then all of a sudden he gets all excited, and motions us to look down in the Petty pit area.  Richard Petty had just walked in, and the Earnhardt team guys says (juuuust above a whisper)  to us...  "Look .......... it's the King !!!!".   He was still like a fan in Richard Pettys presence.

The absolute funniest place to be was at the crash garage where team members worked franticly to get cars back into a race if they were in fender bender accidents.  The combinations yelling, pneumatic tools, hammers and sledges smacking sheetmetal, and the creative use of cuss words was noteworthy.

I wasn’t driving around blowing it up or anything, but ‘twas nice to have a safe spot to toke before bed since the hotels I was allotted rarely had balconies

I’ve never once bought any kind of memorabilia, bumper sticker, clothing, flag, or yard sign endorsing a political candidate. I can’t imagine how big your ego must be that you think your opinion matters enough to be broadcasted to the world like that.

I used to always tell them that my car had blood stains in the trunk

"Uh yeah, is the Hertz manager?  Yeah...I just did self check-out.  Car runs awesome but there's a stench of weed, blood-stains in the trunk, credit-card sized indentions on the console with white powder all over, 2 wine corks, a condom rapper, and an empty baggie that I hope was used for vitamins...all strewn about the cabin.  Just wanted to let y'all know.  And the license plate holder is cracked."

I have a "Vote Bush Eat Bush Drink Busch" bumper sticker, a "Kinky for Governor" bumper sticker and a "My Governor is a Jewish Cowboy" bumper sticker that I've saved.  I would never put them on my car or truck though.  They're hanging in my study.

I really just don't get why people feel the need to take their dog with them to places like restaurants, bars, etc.

I love dogs. Have two of them. They are better than most humans, however, I would never take them to a restaurant or bar. I don’t get it either.

Dude..  our lives have the oddest fucking crossovers. Grande Mart. I lived at the corner of 28th and Nueces for a very long time.

The $3 6 packs of Pearl and 2 for $5 bbq chop beef sammichs were a staple of life.

Back on topic, Sunday afternoon on a nice day, at a outdoor bar with a dog I get. Kinda like going out, with your dog.

On racing, I've always much preferred MotoGP or any type of motorcycle racing over cars. All through the field through out the race there tends to be a lot more passing action. With the exception of the lead, when Marco is running at COTA.

When my brother got married in 1958, their first place was the old duplex at 2826 Rio Grande. There are two shops there now, if Google Streetview is up to date.

Bill Miller’s had decent chopped bbq sammiches 10/$1.

They had a deal that was something like a large fountain drink and hot dog for either 99 or $1.99.  Or maybe the drink and hot dogs were .99 cents apiece.  Either way, I tore that up every weekend.  Also hit up the .99 cent Whopper down the street and, of course, Magic Wok.

Magic Mother fuckin' Wok. Seems like for $5 you could get a meal, an egg roll and a fucking egg drop soup. For like $2 more you could add fried rice.

Yep, we've crossed paths.

Did you hang out by the two struggling trees at 28th and Rio Grande. I fucking swear I recall some weirdo claiming he was "walking his cat" sometime in mid 90s. Though, my recollections aren't particularly sharp.

Dude, it was like $3.72 for a plate and a drink. That was the magic of magic wok.

ahh yes, Magic wok.  back when you wrote them a check they made you put your SSN on the fucking check itself in case it bounced.   come to think of it, all of my clases professors posted our final grades on their door by SSN #.   HTF did we think that was smart?

my go to deals were the $1.79 6 pack of Keystone tall boys at the 7-11 on 26th & Guad, & the .99c Whopper on 27th.   lived at 26th & Nueces.   walked to BK, got the whopper, walked to the 7-11, got the sixer,  and got home in less than 5 mins and $3.01

@BurntEyesNope.  Never walked the damn thing.

Speaking of social security numbers and Pronto's, I'm pretty sure everyone I knew had bounced a check there at some point.  I believe those that I lived with were also blackballed from buying kegs.  I recall them trying to get me to use my ID to order some kegs for a party.  I'm trying to remember why.  Maybe they didn't return the earlier ones or, perhaps, only paid a deposit.  I"m not sure why a store would just accept a deposit over full payment, but perhaps I'm misremembering.

Anybody remember the short lived Papi’s Pizza (spelling might be wrong). $5 one topping large. I might have ate 50 of them the summer of 1995.
