Or, you know, the raised fist of "black power," that has been a symbol for black people for....Jesus, decades, including at the Olympics.

Oh, I know - but since we are all in on the root cause of words and symbols, it goes much further back than the Mexican Olympics.

If you don't like that hand gesture...you're really not gonna like the origins of the "Bellamy Salute"...you know the thing the Nazi Socialists do all the time.  Yeah, invented right here in America...by the guy that wrote the fucking Pledge of Allegiance.  $50 says it makes a mass comeback in this country between now and February and it won't be black socialists making the gesture.

Of course it does -- but it's not just a cover of Pravda thing.  It has been adopted and used as a symbol of black power for at least 50+ years.  Come on, man.  You are trying WAY too hard to discredit the entire racial equality movement as "affiliated with those dirty commies."  I mean, it's not even an original play.

Well then, Heil Five brutha! ;)

Yeah, all this shit goes back centuries if not longer.  Different groups just accost different gestures for their own accord.  I was just always fascinated with the Bellamy Salute because it went into widespread use here literally just a few years before it did in Germany.  But it's all stolen from one group to another, the irony of IP theft being lost on the socialists.

Anyway, say what you want about the Icy Hot Stuntaz...at least their hand gestures and poses were original!

And immortal along again to provide brilliant insight.  Everything in my post is factually correct so I know it hurts your brain.

I'm not trying to discredit anything.  I never stated the raised fist in any way interests me in the slightest (I just said it's not doing them any favors), but to many it does and is sourced often.  I take umbrage with Marxist rhetoric from many (whether you agree or not) professing to speak for the movement.  I'm watching the same slow deuteriation of a  movement as we saw with the Tea party.  It's in lock step.

Always thoughts the Communist angle came from the affiliation with the Black Panthers and the fact we were smack dab in the height of the Cold War?

No, he spoke out against Communism. Didn't stop your ideological ancestors from attacking him with that anyway because he knew Communists and made common cause with them on social justice...

Just like the literal exact thing that is happening today that you and your compatriots are repeating just like your ideological ancestors. :D

Party identification is a wild oversimplication of the issue and doesn't really help explain any of it. Anyway, the CR is that way, bud! I know you won't go there because it's scary, but that's where that conversation lives. I'll be happy to engage you there on those narrow and rudimentary terms if that's all you're capable of seeing. Just tag me in, bro! :)

its too bad the democrats are the party of slavery and segregation. you'll just have to live with it even though it was a while back.  history and all. you don't get to dictate "where the conversation lives".

I try to stay on topic here and not discuss politics as per the purported rules of the forum. :)

I tagged you into the CR and we can discuss your ideas there. :)

I'm good.  you can go play tag in the CR with your racist ideological ancestors over there.

I don't know what surly wants out of this thread can someone please explain it to me?

- News and discussion of the ongoing social unrest related to/following the murder of George Floyd.
- No reference to politicians or political parties.

It's a good question, but there's my two-part answer for what it's worth (which is nothing).

Really, though, you tell us. What is DT for?

- Is it for just posting Tweets/articles without commentary?
- Is it for posting Tweets/articles WITH commentary BUT no one can respond to it? (i.e., I can say "here is a news item and here's my sarcastic joke about it or my opinion about it" and then no one can contradict or argue)

If you tell me the rule I will try my best to follow it.

I'm fine with either, I think that's the problem. Just tell me which way we collectively want this thread to go and I will just make that so. There's one thing that's clear, this thread isn't working the way it is.

Discussion without reference to politicians or parties. That's my vote.

If someone posts explicit politics in DT then ban them from DT for a week+. If someone is talking ideology and philosophy that seems to belong here. But if they're saying "DEMOCRATS! REPUBLICANS! TRUMP! BIDEN! AOC! CRENSHAW!" then they can't post here. If they don't have even THAT level of control then they should go howl in the CR.

I say "explicit" because we have to have a clear definition of what is "political". Obviously we all have political beliefs, but we should be forced to try to think BEYOND that. It's a low bar to clear, IMO, and if you can't clear it you get a timeout.

If that's not helpful I'm sorry; wish I had a better answer.

Didn't we already do this in the board discussion and it was ruled decided by a large majority that DT is for the Republicans to post their opinions and CR is for Democrats. But we'll pretend that's not what it is and claim DT is for non political real news like OAN and qanon while CR is for the liberal Jew run media sheep.

not that I'm aware of, that is not the intention of either of those boards.

I'm not looking for smart ass fucking answers here, if you want this thread to keep going the way it is I'll just fucking delete it. I appreciate Bad_teammates perspective, I also appreciate the perspective of "it's your site do what you think is right". I want the community to decide, if you want me to just do what I think to fix the site then I'll do that, but there's been a pretty vocal contingent for a lot longer than I've had the privilege of happening to own the board url where this community resides that is pretty against heavy handed moderation.

i'll give you my answer publicly, which i related already to you privately, in the interest of full disclosure.

this thread is basically political gaslighting. it's the purpose and premise of the entire thread. full stop. these are people who left the cloak room for reasons, and instead reside here, baiting other posters into politics while straddling the line themselves. it's a joke. but even they cannot help being political from time to time.

if we are truly to separate CR from DT in an ideological way, then we reach the point of where "what is happening" becomes "why is this happening," it shifts from DT to CR. there's no other way around it. so many posters in this thread with CR takes that are dog whistles. it's ridiculous, and it's been going on a long time, and it's starting to infect other boards as well. look at the college football thread for political hot takes as well. cloak room belongs in cloak room, even if the posters with super non-political opinions don't want to put their political opinions there.

jmho.

I really don’t see it as political. There have been no “Cheeto” comments or any mention of political parties until the last few post. It’s just a bunch of posters calling other posters racists and those posters saying they aren’t. That’s as simple as it gets.

Ideology is much, much, MUCH larger than party identification. It's just so much more. I will explain what I mean in CR so we can have that conversation. That's not a threat, I genuinely want you to understand what I'm saying.

Some (maybe all) of you need to take break from this thread and perhaps all of social media...at least for a while.

Y’all are getting too worked up.

Have a beer, smoke a cigar, watch CFB this weekend, get a girlfriend.

Relax and don’t take yourself so seriously.

This board is not and should not be your identity or where you derive your sense of self-worth.

I men there's a fundamental misunderstanding of what "politics" and being "political" means. Saying you want to nominate a conservative to the Supreme Court is not politics and not political. Mitch McConnel throwing out 200 years of precedent, ethics and decorum and ramming in a nominee because "fuck you thats why"  and supporting or not supporting that action  that's what politics is. Politics isn't a belief system politics is how things get done in our government and what deals are made and what beliefs are compromised. Saying black lives matter isn't political, crafting a bill getting support and passing it is political and giving lip service to the belief that black lives matter but not actually doing anything is also political. You'd think on a supposedly college educated board people could understand this concept but look at the rest of our fucking broken country and you'll see why discourse has been reduced to practically nil. Everyone lives in their own bubble where an algorithm has assigned them to only be able to see events that line up with their existing belief system. Nothing is challenged and nothing new is ever learned. So I vote we rename Daily Texan to Gaslighting and Cloak Room to Airing of Grievances cause that's what those 2 boards have been reduced to.

And for the people who say ,"oh its just your side vs my side thats so politics" your side is literally Donald Fucking Trump. A pathetic joke of a human being before being elevated to on one of the most powerful positions in the world where his decisions and indecisions have cost literally 100s of thousands of lives. So think on that before you say none of this matters anyways.

There are posters who don't want this stuff discussed in news/current events for whatever reason, and they deliberately inject politics into it and then claim it should be in CR, even though they are the reason why it became political.

If those people got punished with something more than having their posts delayed, like say a 24 hour, then 48, then 1 week posting ban, they'd get the picture pretty quick.  They would have to decide between being allowed to post, or shitting up a thread they don't like and being punished as a result.

We are way overthinking this.  We should be able to discuss current events and news without people coming in and taking it personally.

People shouldn't be able to walk into a DT thread, throw out political comments, and then declare that the thread should be moved to CR, because there's political comments.  If somebody wants to throw out a "cheeto" comment, or a "liberal commies" comment, give them some actual time off - a day or two should get it through their heads.
