NASA Drops 'Insensitive' Nicknames

If you are in despair because it seems there are no “insensitive” nicknames you can use to describe people anymore, fear not. Let me tell you a story.
When I was a young NNM in Northern New Mexico, I or one of my siblings would come home with some playground joke making fun of a group of people. NNM Sr. (TCU ‘56) would stop me and say, “now son, we don’t say those kinds of words in this house. We’re not that kind of people.  We respect all people and don’t use those kinds of words because they’re hurtful.”  Then he would add “but if it’s an Aggie joke, it’s ok.  Because they’re all true.” (This was in the days before the universal term “aggy” had been invented.”)

So, if you feel the need to demean a group of people, divert your attention. Whatever group of people you are trying to demean do not deserve it.  Instead, just tell an aggy joke. It makes everyone feel better.
