Some quick thoughts after reviewing the individual leaderboards:

Willian had a better season than advertised. He should be replaceable but he did a lot of good things for our attack.

Azpilacueta is a work horse.

Tammy put up a lot of volume numbers, but any decent striker in that role should have done the same.

Giroud was efficient - just not consistent and didn't create a lot of volume.

Pulisic is a special talent and does more to create goals than all but a handful of EPL players.

Mount has a great feel for the game and surprisingly scratched the top 10 in a couple of good metrics despite not a ton of minutes played.

Our defense sucked. Hard. The only appearances from our defenders were Zouma on aerial % won (no shit - he's fucking huge) and Christensen on pass% (which isn't even a defensive metric). I don't even want to think at how far down Kepa was on the keeping metrics. Pretty sure he was close to the bottom if not outright last on some of them.

Out - Willian, Pedro, Kepa (hopefully)

In - Timo, Ziyech

Rumored - Chillwell, Kai, Rice, Oblak

Loans ending - Nathan, Pasalic, Musonda Jr., Morata (lol), Ampadu, Zappacosta, Bakayoko, Rahman Baba, Drinkwater, Moses

Sold - Morata (61m), Pasalic(16m), Nathan (3.3m)

If we somehow pull off Chillwell, Kai, Rice I don't see how we get a decent GK. The only name of any substance I have seen pop up is Oblak (felt to be a long shot). Pipe dream I'd take Andre Onana. I'm not sure we will know anything for a bit as most smoke is associated with Kai and Chillwell right now.

Palmieri is rumored to be leaving for Inter. I've heard a couple of rumors on smaller clubs interested in Bats - but could end up being a loan or a transfer in a window down the line. I just don't see him playing much on this year's team outside of some major injuries assuming we land Kai.

Bayer Leverkusen now urging Chelsea to come in with their formal ‘written offer’ for Havertz, and they are keen to get the deal finalised before they return to pre-season on August the 28th, 10 days from now. [BILD]

Translated as Leverkusen now agrees to terms with CFC but we need to put it in writing.

Tall, blessed with speed and exceptionally comfortable in possession, Mbuyamba could well arrive in west London knowing he will need to impress before he is handed a first-team opportunity by Frank Lampard.

Should a deal go through, he is willing to spend next season within the youth ranks at Cobham while he would also welcome a loan move, with Vitesse an option in Eredivisie.

Regardless of where he plays in 2020-21, given his meteoric rise it is not difficult to suggest that he will prove those who overlooked him previously wrong yet again.

Can we throw $200M at TAA and just dominate the league for the next 10 years?

I just signed up for Peacock.

Head-to-head

  • Chelsea are the only opponents Brighton have played a league fixture against without ever winning. The 1-1 draw at Amex Stadium on New Year's Day was Brighton's first point against the Blues, and came at the 10th attempt.

  • Albion's only competitive victory in 14 attempts against Chelsea came in their first meeting, an FA Cup tie on the south coast in January 1933.

Chelsea

  • This is the third time Chelsea are starting a Premier League campaign on a Monday, with the Blues going on to win the title on the previous two occasions in 2014-15 and 2016-17.

  • Twelve league defeats in 2019-20 equalled the most by a Chelsea side in a season since Roman Abramovich became owner in 2003.

  • They lost their final two competitive fixtures of the 2019-20 campaign and could suffer three straight defeats for the first time since May to August 2006.

  • Chelsea conceded 54 Premier League goals last season, just one short of their club record. Nine clean sheets was their joint-fewest in a Premier League campaign.

  • Frank Lampard's side kept only one clean sheet in their 19 Premier League away matches of 2019-20, in a 2-0 win at Tottenham in December.

  • New signing Timo Werner scored 28 league goals for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga last season, the fourth highest tally in Europe's top five leagues.

Brighton

  • Brighton's tally of three victories in their 18 Premier League fixtures in 2020 is the lowest of any side currently in the division (D9, L6).

  • Nonetheless, they recorded their highest Premier League tally of points (41) and goals (39) last season, as well as registering their fewest defeats (15).

  • They can win their opening league fixture in successive seasons for the first time since 2010-11.

  • Albion haven't lost a league game on a Monday in 10 attempts since an April 2015 defeat by Rotherham. All five of their Premier League games played on Mondays have been drawn.

  • Adam Lallana's failure to score or provide an assist in his nine league games against Chelsea is his worst record against a top-flight club.

Team News

Chelsea

  • Chelsea's expensive German signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner are in line for their debuts.

  • Hakim Ziyech and Ben Chilwell are injured and Thiago Silva lacks fitness, but Christian Pulisic and Cesar Azpilicueta have overcome hamstring problems.

Brighton

  • Brighton's new signing Adam Lallana will be looking for his first Premier League start since December 2019.

  • Jose Izquiedero and Christian Walton are Albion's only injury absentees.
