Abbott being Abbott

I always thought the Florida panhandle looked like the taint.  sure it's fun to party with during a drug induced Spring Break at Fort Walton beach...but in the end...it's just an STD waiting to happen.

Thanks.
Are you friends with a bunch of fats?  Maybe I'm looking at a more narrow definition of 1B, or I'm not putting enough weight on "including but not limited to" before the list of conditions that would qualify for 1B.  I take a statin every day for high cholesterol - would that be enough?

You’re probably at a higher risk than somebody without HC. So yeah. Go ahead and get it. If you feel guilty, take your laptop and a hotspot to CVS and help a couple olds get booked. I’ve seen a bunch walk up thinking it was available... only to get turned away. Given out my number to so many of them you’d think I was a retirement home gigolo

Any of you worrying about cutting in line and depriving someone of their vaccine stop. There are vaccines being wasted at the end of the day at every vaccine location

On the Covid thread I just said I booked one at CVS in Stephenville and I am starting to feel like I am doing something wrong.

Heads should roll, If that is the case - and I have no reason whatsoever to doubt you.  Texas and any other states/locations where that is occurring should receive fewer doses immediately.

Not quite that simple.

We try our best to only draw doses that will be used but there is still some lead time required before it goes in an arm.

If someone has an appointment in the last two hours of the day and no-shows, we end up scrambling around looking for an arm to put it in.

We’re usually pretty successful but sometimes shit happens.

It can’t really be helped. Once they are thawed and reconstituted the clock is ticking. Many hospitals and clinics will literally go out into the waiting rooms and parking lots and offer doses to random ppl to keep from wasting them. I’m sure the pharmacies do the same but there are not always takers

When you go from ‘bout to secede to hat in hand pleading to Joe Biden to save your citizens from your gross negligence and incompetence you need a futile and stupid gesture to get back in the MAGATs’ good graces

The design of the rollout in states could have been improved, but I understand your and @Bama Chick's points about clinics/pharms/. . .  unable to alter course once the cancellations/no-shows start appearing. That is a damn shame.

And with people in Texas apparently making appointments all over the state, you know some will not cancel duplicate bookings, which will only aggravate the leftover doses.

I hope Texans with multiple appointments cancel the duplicate appointments after getting the shot elsewhere.  If they don't, this mess will accelerate.

You are so right.  Here are some literal quotes from my neighborhood Facebook page in the Dallas suburbs about Abbott stopping the mask mandate.  There were some arguing how dumb this move is by Abbott but of course below is the other side.
"I love it...but then again I love science and breathing and stuff.  God Bless Texas"
"Fauci ignored the science. At least Abbott follows the science and is doing what's right for us"
"pretty sure you can still wear your muzzle if you choose...the way it should have always been.  #mybodymychoice"
"This is long overdue as masks don't work.  Jesus will take care of those of us that believe in him"
"I am over 65 and won't get the vaccine. You all can have mine.  It will cause more harm than good and I am not afraid of Covid.  It made Trump stronger"
"This is why Texas won't become a socialist/communist state like the Democrats want the US to be.  We believe in freedom"
I would unfollow that shit or move. ignorance is bliss.

Part of the reason I find myself on Zillow for hours at a time looking at other states to live in like Colorado, Oregon, etc...

They have normalized the deaths of half a million people to the point that who gives a shit about another couple hundred thousand?   Sad part is many of these jackasses won't be affected, nor know anyone personally affected, so they will continue to push this shit and feel justified.  They can not fathom that others wearing masks around them just might have kept them from contracting Covid.

Emboldened enough to keep the whole "hoax" conversation alive.

Yeah I lied too. I felt a bit guilty, but the Abbott going full "every man for himself" has obliterated that.
I didn't lie for me, but stretched the truth for my GF who has a big old booty and a little extra covid chub and used to smoke for years before me. Got text for Appt in Houston and pulled the trigger.

Throwing some Swangers on the family whip and heading home to H Town Friday for round 1.

Spoke to one of my buddies down there who is obese, smokes and should get the shot- not even signed up. WTF.

Grab a stick, some poster board, and a sharpie. Write “Extra COVID shots about to expire” and walk out to the street. Zero shots will go unused

One of the biggest arguments I have with my wife all the time is that she can’t get past all of these people in our neighborhood that have not stopped living their lives at all.  They have continued to go to restaurants, movies, family vacations, parties with 20 plus people every weekend at different neighbors houses and none of them have gotten Covid or if they did it was mild.  The “argument” is she brings this up like why have we been so careful all these months and they don’t give a shit and nothing happens to them.  I have tried to explain many times they are the reason we are still in this mess but she won’t give up on her anger at them.  It frustrates me as much as her but I still believe being smart, wearing masks, not going on vacations has been the right thing as opposed to spreading the disease unknowingly and possibly killing some 80 year old that was near me at the local grocery store.

Where do you live?  Sounds terrible.  I hope social distancing stays a thing forever.  Fuck all of you people, I don't want to be near you.

in Amarillo and Odessa, they're so MAGA, they're probably having a hard time using up the vaccines.  i'm guessing all the locals who wanted to get the vaccine have already received it.  so now they're just sitting on a stockpile that no Trumper wants.  if i hadn't already received the first dose, i'd go there on a Saturday.

I'd bet money this is the case.

Seems legit.

That was a bit of an exaggeration, but someone with a sign outside of a hospital/vax clinic, directing you inside the clinic would surly solve the problem of unused shots. I’d hop the median if I saw someone with that sign outside my CVS

This decision is so incredibly demoralizing. I know I'm not special and certainly recognize the past 12 months have been hard on all of us (many, if not most, worse than me), but please bear with the following whinging.

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with major despressive disorder, so you all can imagine what living/working alone has done to my psychological/physical well-being. But I've stuck it out and have had this place as one of my outlets to commiserate and converse with a lot of like-minded, well-intentioned, and intelligent folks. That's something to be grateful for.

Being stressed out, fighting tooth and nail against the Covid misinformation campaign directed against people like my elderly, conservative parents who watch FOX News like their lives depend on it and live(d) in MAGA-land, West Texas, my worse fear came true. Both parents contracted it, and only one survived. Then, six weeks later, our entire state temporarily crumpled under the rubble of Republican deregulated delusion. All of this was entirely avoidable but utterly predictable.

Last week, I finally got that first dose and was beginning to feel optimistic about our course. Mother, sister, and daughter have all had their second dose. Spring is coming. The weather is warming. Doses are increasing. The economy is improving. We'll finally get to see our co-workers in 3D once again. Everything is looking up.

And then this...

It's like having a addict friend or family member who continuously pulls the rug out from under themselves, repeatedly shattering all hope for recovery in a cycle of constant self-destruction. We all need to go to some sort of Al-Anon type Citizens-Who-Give-A-Shit meeting in the short-term and attend Brink-of-Societal-Collapse PTSD therapy sessions over the long.

Whinging concluded.

I hear you and though I haven't had the experience you've had, I also feel like I'm just barely hanging on. I'm so sorry for your loss. And I agree wholeheartedly with your analogy. Similarly, I've felt for a while now that Texans are in an abusive, domestic violence type relationship with the elected leadership. Some love the drama, don't really understand the damage, and keep going back for more, some are under a Stockholm Syndrome type delusion, and many more are just desperate to escape but can't.

Thanks. I was also considering going with the domestic abuse angle.

Of course, we can't exactly escape the abuser addict in this case.
