I saw this with my own eyes with an acquaintance back in 2017.  Middle aged hispanic woman who was otherwise seemingly normal, but full on trumpkin purely because of wanting to pull up the ladder.  It was wild.

I just got done reading an article where the Russians were discussing how they were going to fuck around with our next set of elections.  Would anyone be surprised to find out they already started their propaganda campaigns in the Hispanic community?  It didn’t surprise me one bit based on what we saw with the RGV and South Florida in the 2020 election.

But okay, I'll play...it's 95% White U.S. citizens.  Just use your natural intuition.  If a bunch of illegal 'stuff' makes it into the U.S., how do you scatter it to various distribution centers around the nation to be cut and sold to wholesalers for pickup?  Do you use a bunch of undocumented illegals with sketchy looking cars and rental trucks?  Or do use cleanly registered vehicles and trucks belonging to non-criminal Americans?  And do you run the distribution network under the protection of state police for a small fee?

Yep, Mattress Firms

Sid Miller with a brief moment of clarity?

Note I know thre stimulation is just going it to fuck with us.

On the one hand, Miller sounds like he's going to be running against Abbott (or one of Abbott's allies) and is trying to take him down a notch.

On the other hand, I still think Miller is doing this because the BMDs came calling and told him to do something.

There have already been a number of stories about misinformation targeting Spanish media, including during the last election.

From Oct. 2020:

False Political News in Spanish Pits Latino Voters Against Black Lives Matter

MIAMI — Even by the permissive standards of partisan talk radio, the grave warning from the host of a program on a popular Spanish-language station in Miami one afternoon in September was outlandish.

Carinés A. Moncada, the host, claimed that a co-founder of Black Lives Matter practiced “brujería” — witchcraft.

“So you ask yourself, ‘Why are they destructive?’” she said, referring to protesters who support the Black Lives Matter movement. “Because they are vibrating with the devil. They are vibrating with negativity. They are vibrating with the dark.”

“And whoever votes for Biden, unfortunately, is supporting that,” she concluded.

*****

Researchers say that the scale and extreme nature of misinformation, after ramping up in every election cycle for the past several years, have spiked this year.

“They feed into real fears, about the pandemic, about socialism and exploiting potential gaps within communities, between the Black community and the Latino community,” said Jacobo Licona, who studies misinformation for Equis Labs, a liberal-leaning Latino research group. “There’s misinformation from people not even understanding how they are spreading it, that continues to stoke real tension and anxiety right now.”

******

And it remains, for now, impossible to know whether the misinformation is coming from foreign influencers and to what extent the distribution of misinformation is coordinated.

But the outright disinformation — the deliberate spreading of falsehoods — is coming almost exclusively from conservatives, researchers say, including from a crop of right-wing Spanish-language websites that are designed to look like nonpartisan news outlets. Liberal activists and experts have struggled to keep up with an accurate response, in part because of language barriers and because so much has been spread in private, closed groups.

******

Misinformation proliferates first online, then is often shared on WhatsApp, which is particularly popular among Latino immigrants. Then, in Florida, it trickles into the Miami media market’s largely unchecked ecosystem of niche Spanish-language newspapers and radio and television stations, whose right-wing hosts and commentators amplify some of the pernicious messages.

Though this is most problematic in Florida, there is evidence of it spreading throughout the country.

******

WhatsApp is exceedingly popular among Latinos with families living both in the United States and Latin America, and experts have seen what they call a relentless deluge of false information being passed from those living outside the United States about American politics — and then back again. Many people are reluctant to leave groups they have long been a part of to join in friendly family gossip and nostalgia.

“In the U.S., there’s not a huge WhatsApp penetration, but in certain diaspora communities, there is,” said Jacob Gursky, a research associate at the Center for Media Engagement at the University of Texas at Austin, which has studied disinformation in the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico and has been looking into the messages proliferating in Miami.

******

One example of how conspiracy theories have invaded the mainstream came last month when El Nuevo Herald, The Miami Herald’s sister publication in Spanish, admitted that it published a supplement with racist, anti-Semitic, misogynistic and homophobic commentary for more than eight months.

In August, Radio Caracol, a Colombian network based in Miami, aired a paid program from a businessman who spewed racist and anti-Semitic claims about how a Biden win would lead to a dictatorship led by “Jews and Blacks.” The network quickly apologized, barred the commentator and allotted time on a popular afternoon program to discuss what went wrong.

******

Much of the misinformation has come from the Trump campaign itself. Social media accounts for Equipo Trump and Latinos for Trump, official campaign operations, have claimed that Latin American socialists are promoting Biden and connected protests to actions in Latin American socialists countries, and that Democrats in the United States are responsible for them. Others have claimed that Democrats are ignoring attacks on Hispanic men.

With the 2022 midterms ahead, expect another Latino misinformation crisis

Before the 2020 U.S. election, the Latino community was inundated with misinformation and conspiracy theories on political and health issues — including inaccurate claims that coronavirus vaccines don’t work, Democrats were illegally harvesting ballots, a Biden administration would put the United States under the control of “Jews and Blacks,” that Joe Biden was a socialist and not a “real Catholic.” According to Maria Teresa Kumar, the founder of Voto Latino, these claims were “rampant and consequential” in the 2020 election. Much of this misinformation spread uncontested or was even outright weaponized by those opposed to Joe Biden.

Russia aims Ukraine disinformation at Spanish speakers

Washington (AP) — Though Russia is the country that invaded its neighbor Ukraine, the Kremlin’s version relentlessly warns social media users across Latin America that the U.S. is the bigger problem.

“Never forget who is the real threat to the world,” reads a headline, translated here from Spanish. The article, originally posted in late February on Twitter by RT en Español, is intended for an audience half a world away from the fighting in Kyiv and Mariupol.

As that war rages, Russia is launching falsehoods into the feeds of Spanish-speaking social media users in nations that already have long records of distrusting the U.S. The aim is to gain support in those countries for the Kremlin’s war and stoke opposition against America’s response.

Though many of the claims have been discredited, they’re spreading widely in Latin America and helping to make Kremlin-controlled outlets some of the top Spanish-language sources for information about the war. Russian outlet RT en Español is now the third most shared site on Twitter for Spanish-language information about Russia’s invasion.

“RT’s success should be concerning to anyone worried about the success of democracy,” said Samuel Woolley, a University of Texas professor who researches disinformation. “RT is geared toward authoritarian control and, depending on the context, nationalism and xenophobia. What we risk is Russia gaining control of an increasingly large market share of eyeballs.”

It's amusing to me that so many Texans think the cartels are these all-business organizations that are lethal in their practices of getting bad drugs to bad people in the U.S.  And they go through all this violence and cost and violate our borders so they can turn over a truckload of product to Pedro in his '98 Bronco in San Angelo or Beaumont.
It's the most bizarre disconnect to me.  We are all terribly, terribly concerned with drugs flowing into our country from our borders.  Regardless of party.  And then down the foodchain, we all want to see addicts get help and reform mandatory drug sentencing laws.  But there's this massive nebulous in the middle where most Texans just kinda shrug and think, "I dunno, what happens between the border and the addict, probably some Mexicans, I dunno...maybe.  Probably not.  Who knows?  not cops though.  Right?  Maybe.  Shit.  I had something for this.  Wait, is it Belarus?  No?  Okay.  Um, Doug from West Virginia probably?  I mean, I guess yeah...it's a massive country.  I guess somebody drives it around.  Wait, do they use rivers?"

You got your most important fact completely wrong. The Bronco ended production in 1996.

Let us not forget where America really went wrong and, like, against God.

Don't forget that the threat of men and women being required to use the same restrooms is what defeated the Equal Rights Amendment back in the '70s. Oh, and the fact that American men find women threatening. Texas, of course, voted wrong.

Women join men and women in gender conflict and your persons of color as the real threat to America and the brave state of Texas.

This seems like a bad idea from Abbott. There’s a couple potential explanations.

He believes that blame for any consequences related to supplies or prices will go to Biden. Or he believes or sees polling that voters in Texas are more concerned with the border situation than those issues. It’s been well covered that Hispanics especially in Texas are shifting to the right, at least partially due to the border. He’s playing to that I think.

I think the mostly white, liberal, and educated posters here dismiss the impact of the current levels of illegal immigration especially on border communities. Then you throw in the expected surge coming and there could be some monster numbers. Seems like he’s making the common political mistake of giving into the cries to “Do Something!”

You mean election year?

I bet Abbot will only win by 9, now. Powerful!

I have a few relatives who are blaming the bullshit at the border on Biden's inflation (I shit you not), but most people understand DPS fucking around after the trucks have been through the federal checks is Abbott's doing.  I've been pointing out that DPS is taking the chance to write a shit-ton of tickets, which is slowing everything down even more.

It's not really hit most areas yet though, and it's going to take a few more days, which makes me think Abbott will still shut it down after he gets a few "promises" from the Mexican leadership.  If this drags out and really starts to impact more grocery stores and restaurants, Miller will probably ramp up the rhetoric.  If he's got aspirations for higher office, this is a great issue to hammer Abbott over.

abbott already announced that he was ending DPS's interdiction of international trade after getting assurances from the governor of NL that the 8 whole miles of border between texas and NL will have additional ??? on the mexican side.
