Yeah I edited my comment. I think you're right because of the 3 TDs. Just in terms of catches and yards it wasn't SUPER crazy.

Respect.

This 2016 article would put it tied for 3rd between 2000-2015.

Yeah, there were some good games yesterday.  i talk to my grown ass sons every Sunday morning and one of our topics is "Game of the Day," as in what sporting event are you looking forward too the most.  One of them said G5 of the WS, another said Pittsburgh vs Titans, and mine was Russell Wilson and a carful of clowns vs Kliff and his little clown.

Can you imagine Wilson with Arizona's offense?   LOLz.

That was some ugly football from Cam Newton and the rest of the Patriots. I wonder if Cam wore one of his signature outfits afterwards.

Not only do I think that New England is going to finally miss the playoffs, I think they're going to serious threaten the Jets' goal of a winless season. Old ass Tom Brady was masking a lot of shitty roster construction.

I'm enjoying watching the emergence of the young crop of QBs. Mahomes, Wilson, Watson, Allen, Murray, Dak (RIP), Herbert, Bridgewater, Burrow, and Tua are going to have the NFL in great shape for the next decade from a quarterbacking perspective. This might be the healthiest the QB position has been in a long time, actually. Even shitty QBs like Baker Mayfield aren't that shitty compared to what a "shitty QB" typically looks like. And then you've got the geriatrics like Brees, Brady, Big Ben and to a lesser extent Rodgers hanging on, trying to still show the young bucks how it's done.

I've enjoyed this season so far.

QBs are definitely coming in more ready to play as the NFL adapts a lot of college spread concepts.  They are no longer trying to force round pegs into square holes.  This is Wilson's 9th season, so I wouldn't call him young.  Not that he doesn't have a lot of NFL left, but throwing him in the mix as an emerging young player is odd.  He's been an elite QB for the past 5 seasons.

I know this is going round like crazy talk but I’m beginning to dig the NFL as much or more than college these days.

Maybe it has to do with the horns sucking so bad of so long but here’s the thought.

I like the NFL because it is a level playing field. If you can get past any irrational emotional connection to a team (I have Jerry Jones to thank for that) the competition is really enjoyable to watch. No one has any advantage over anyone else other than how smart you are and how well you execute as an organization.

Compare that to college where out of 120 whatever d1 teams, there are 5-10 with all the advantage and all the rest are largely irrelevant. Then you have schools like Texas, Michigan, USC etc who consistently squander that advantage in a pretty disgusting way. On top of that the leagues/conferences don’t play by the same rules. SEC, I’m looking at you.

Don’t get me wrong I love the pageantry of CFB and will always bleed orange. But if you really think about it, it’s kind of a bullshit system.

This is all true and has been for a long time. To add to that, the NFL is the most ruthlessly competitive sports league on the planet, featuring the greatest athletes outside of the NBA, Olympics and some soccer players.

A good NFL team is about as good at what they do as any collection of 70-80 people you can find. There is SO much money on the line every week amongst testosterone fueled, alpha-male, hyper-competitve freaks of nature that have done nothing their entire lives but be the best at what they do at every stop until they get to the NFL.

Where else can you see a guy run an Olympic-level 100 yard sprint just to keep another Olympic-level sprinter from carrying a ball past a line to score points in a game.

It's just fucking awesome.

You've already edited your comment, but I'm definitely not trolling and not really sure what you're getting at so let's hear it.

None of those sports, generally speaking require the overall athleticism and/ or toughness of the NFL, and that's not even including the execution at team level.  Sure there are some sports that require specific skills, but you're gonna have a hard time convincing me Steph fucking Curry is more athletic than say...Khalil Mack or Julio Jones.   No fucking way.

Soccer...LOlz.

Okay good, I thought you were going in the other direction with it.

Definitely disagree on the NBA - I'm not really factoring "toughness" into the equation. If you're an elite athlete that's good enough to try and make the NBA you choose basketball over football every time. There are plenty of NBA players that almost assuredly could have made the NFL if they kept at it. The reverse is not true outside of maybe a couple of crazy exceptions.

I'm guessing you don't really watch any soccer so I'm not wasting my time on that one.

As for the Olympics - maybe not as dynamic athletically - but in terms of pure athletic ability to achieve one or a few set goals obviously the Olympics is the top of the mountain. No one in the NFL is as fast as the fastest Olympic sprinters - or lifts weights like Olympic lifters. But NFL players do sprint better than lifters and lift better than sprinters.

Not sure why that’s funny, but hey man. Laugh at a guy who tore his ACL ending his season. Didn’t realize OBJ fucked your wife, or whatever he did that causes you to hate him so much on a personal level.

It's his general attitude. Can't really single out one specific thing. It's an amalgam.

That would actually make sense, and in that case I take back everything I said.

I “sports hate” a lot of people, including OBJ when he was on the giants. He’s been humbled in Cleveland and he’s been a pretty good teammate. But even if I did sports hate him, definitely not looking to see a guy tear his ACL. That’s the type of shit I wish for my worst enemy. Not a player I’ve never talked to in my life.

The NFL has always shit all over college and it's beginning to be even worse. Especially the NFL adapting to these spread styles. With college, you might have a few games a week with any real importance to the playoffs. And college games are a beating where they take up to and over 4 hours to complete. College will never be able to match the entertainment and drama factors of the pros. And the talent difference is night and day. I love both sports but I try not compare them because there isn't anything to compare in terms of on the field product.College has the pros beat in terms of pageanty, atmosphere and tradition. But they are the worst sport in mankind history in deciding who will play for the national championship.

I’ve made this point, but 2008 did it for me. It was that year that made me realize college football is a beauty pageant, and if you aren’t one of the two prettiest girls (now 4 prettiest girls) nothing else matters. Until there’s a playoff that includes literally every single conference winner (P5 or not) college football will always kind of be a joke. Name another sport where you can win your conference/division and not have a direct spot in the postseason. You won’t find it because it’s a ridiculous idea. What’s the point of even having conferences if winning the conference isn’t a direct ticket to the playoffs.

Fun in Vegas.

Quote

Todd Gurley's misstep and a missed extra point swung millions of dollars in a matter of minutes Sunday at sportsbooks around the nation.

Gurley unintentionally scored a touchdown that gave the Atlanta Falcons the lead, but also handed the ball back to Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lionswith one minute remaining. The Falcons were attempting to bleed the clock and kick a chip-shot field goal to win the game.

On a first-down handoff from the Detroit 10-yard line, Gurley tried to give himself up at the 1 but tumbled on the goal line for a score that, after a successful two-point conversion, put the Falcons ahead 22-16 with 1:04 to play. Stafford then drove the Lions 75 yards in eight plays, capped off by an 11-yard touchdown pass. The extra point gave Detroit an improbable 23-22 win. The Lions were one-point underdogs to the Falcons.

Two years ago Gurley stopped short of scoring a touchdown to avoid giving Aaron Rodgers the ball back in securing a win for the Los Angeles Rams over the Green Bay Packers. Gurley's heady play in October 2018 outraged fantasy football players and bettors who needed him to score in order to cover the point spread.

"Man, forget fantasy and forget Vegas," Gurley said after the 2018 game against the Packers "We got the win, so that's all that matters."

This Sunday, Gurley couldn't hold up, and it cost one sportsbook big bucks. "That was a big, big swing for us," Jeff Stoneback, director of MGM sportsbooks in Nevada, said. "That was a seven-figure swing [against the house]."

Most of that swing was caused by one Las Vegas bettor, who had more than $2 million in play on the NFL on Sunday with MGM, including $805,000 riding on the Lions in a series of bets that all cashed via that last-play touchdown.

While Stafford was rallying the Lions, Baker Mayfield was leading his Cleveland Browns to a comeback win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Mayfield connected with Donovan Peoples-Jones on a 24-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds left that gave Cleveland a 37-34 lead with the extra point pending. The Browns had closed as consensus 3.5-point favorites. Cleveland kicker Cody Parkey missed the extra point. Final score: Browns 37, Bengals 34.

That missed extra point was good for most sportsbooks, including a seven-figure swing in favor of the house for DraftKings and a six-figure swing in favor of the house at Station Casino sportsbooks in Nevada.

It's criminal how the NCAA has always determined their champion. No other sport does this and yet, their fans and all these schools just accept it and some even tell us why it's better than a playoff system lol. The smaller divisions do it just fine.

I have pretty much checked out on bowl games besides Texas', the playoff games and maybe one or two others. Don't give a shit about any of the others.

College football Saturday's used to be the holy grail. With Texas sucking obviously is the biggest impact, the sport is just getting dull for me. Bama, Clemson Ohio State seem to just run the sport now. Blowouts are the norm now. The NFL may have had its best day ever yesterday, and I am a Cowboys fan. The games are so competitive, the skill set is obviously 10x that of college. I think college needs the passion of fans at games more than the NFL as well, so that is hurting it too for me.

there are great games every week but the fact that you can basically pick the 4 playoff teams in august has made it stale.

Non Cowboy games are fun to watch. Cowboys games, not so much. Last night's game was fucking fun as hell. Even my gf got into it.

NFL shits all over college and i love watching the kids but i find myself more and more only interested from a scouting standpoint, trying to pick out who i think will be good at the next level.

College rules need some major adjusting and yeah, a better playoff system.

Well y'all make it sound like someone held a gun to Kliff's head and MADE him take D-Hop...

The Cardinals are 5-2.  Virtually nobody expected that, so if that is failing upwards, whatever. Tampa Bay and Kansas City have scored more points than Arizona this season.   Lotsa folks in this board's community favor credentials over substance.  and that's why...

Neverfuckingmind.

No - I'll give him credit and with the Kyler/Tech connection I root for AZ.  Tech is our entire family's favorite or second favorite team.  Can't ditch our roots.  I'm just saying it's hilarious how Tech forced him out then he lands a coordinator job in college and tells them to fuck off so he can go take an NFL job that's sitting there with the number 1 pick - all this in about 6 months time.  I think he's good - I just think his body of work up until landing an NFL gig is questionable.

The funny thing is, they got it right in every sport but their biggest cash cow. I remember 2008 like it was yesterday. I didn’t give two shits about that fiesta bowl vs Ohio state. We had nothing to gain and everything to lose. If we win “yeah no shit you’re the 3rd best team and Ohio state was kinda rebuilding that year.” If we lose “see, you didn’t deserve to be there anyway.”

I took the bait and believed going into last year. I thought we would have momentum after beating a UGA team that wanted to prove they belonged in the playoffs. But they didn’t care just like we didn’t care in 2008. It’s such a big letdown getting left out as the “5th best team” that the sugar bowl doesn’t really matter that much. You have to do some type of playoff with all 10 division one conference winners. Maybe add in 2 at large teams and and have some type of set up where the top 2 or top 4 teams have a bye. It makes no sense that a team like the 2008 Longhorns wouldn’t even have a shot at competing for a championship.

He has consistently attracted and developed the QB position, regardless of level of team.  That is why he got the job, with it being the most critical relationship and catalyst towards success in the NFL.

The college gig didn't work out, but that's a long drawn out thread of another ilk. I still think it's very telling of how Kliff felt about the NFL when he was newly hired at USC as their OC and Trojan AD  Lynn Swann refused to let him talk about job prospects with the Jets and the Cardinals.  Kliff says, "Fuck you then, I quit"  Knowing he did not have the job with either team just because he showed up.  Kliff has always been gutsy, and he put it on the line bigtime while betting on himself.

He was a great player for Tech.  It didn't work out as a coach, but he's been damned good at what he does for longer than just a data point or two.
