He'll be lying in state in the capitol rotunda in 2021. A larger percentage of the rotunda than any prior president. Because his ass is YUUUGE.

Is it automatic that he would get a state funeral?  I think he wants one last big rally that charges admission.

And I think anyone with any sense realizes that without COVID -- both as a political hit to him and as a physical event that changed voting patterns -- he was on track to win a second term.  In short, the Trump fans aren't wrong -- but for COVID, he would have won.

I disagree with this. I honestly think COVID may have garnered him more votes than he otherwise would have gotten. It's not like people who sat back and watched the previous 3 years and said, "Yeah, I'm perfectly fine with this guy" saw his handling of a natural disaster and switched to "Fuck him, I'm voting for a Democrat!" They were already committed to the Trump train.

Trump making the pandemic political from the beginning, while sadistic, was probably (politically) smart. He made the Democrats out to be the party of lockdowns and not letting you earn a living. I'm sure there were plenty of people in the middle who don't closely follow politics--some who usually don't vote--who worried about their financial situation. (Biden obviously got more votes than he otherwise would have from the other half of that same middle who were disgusted by Trump's COVID recklessness, so I'd call it a wash.)

Also, this election was an ass kicking. Yeah, it would have been great to see 75% of voters put aside partisan politics and kick this loser to the curb, but that's not realistic in our two party system. Only Georgia, Wisconsin, and Arizona were particularly close, and Biden only needed one to win.

I agree with Brisket that Trump is likely re-elected were it not for COVID. The Democratic field was extremely weak and they are lucky Biden agreed to run.

Not sure about the direction of the GOP, however. At some point it becomes obvious that Trump is a lame duck and that the outcome of the election can no longer be changed. But what is the moment for the establishment GOP? Is it Monday, when the Electoral College votes, or is it when the votes are actually counted in congress? Is it inauguration day?

That moment will occur regardless of anything Trump does.

I think it's still up in the air what happens to the GOP. Trump has been able to use the bully pulpit to the max to rally his supporters to force GOP officials to back his nonsense. As the President he is the leader of the GOP. Once out of office that is no longer the case, and the GOP is NOT going to want to associate with a loser anymore regardless of how many votes he threatens to take away.

But will he continue to stick around, or will he start his own political party? IMHO that would be Peak Trump and allows him to maximize the graft. He's always been best as an insurgent force and with the connections he's made he could take the most loyal GOPers with him. The only question is how profitable the move would be for him in the end.

What I wouldn’t give to have California sue Alabama for any reason they can find and expose the fuck out out of John Merrill and Steve Marshall. Throw in Mo Fucking Brooks, too.

If California sued every red state, stating that their injury is that their proximity to them prevents their economy from thriving more than it has, for $5 trillion, that would have more merit attached to it than this latest round of horseshit from Ken Paxton.

The Birmingham area has definitely benefited from the Feds coming in and prosecuting every politician plus their chihuahua the past 15 years. It spilled over some into state gummint too-- I doubt Roy Hubbard or Dr. Dr. Skeletor would have been held accountable otherwise.

I say let the enema continue.

So much this.

We are supposed to be the shining beacon of unassailable democratic institutions.  What were revealing is that it can all be undone by literally a handful of sociopaths at the top.  To the world, we looked like an unconquerable fortress of democracy.  But it turns out that our walls are actually made of tissue paper.

We offered a vision of the world that was NOT Thunderdome, that was NOT entirely dominated by whoever has the power in the moment, where the strength was in our institutions.  Anyone who has had their eyes even half open now knows that ain't the case.  The world is and remains Thunderdome.  We're just violent monkeys, beating the fuck out of each other for access to the best feeding grounds, and that's almost certainly all we're ever going to be.

We are the frogs boiling to death in water. Outrage has been advanced in increments by persons no better than excrement.

Brisket has been decried occasionally for alarmism. We keep expecting that oh, the landslide victory will shut Trump and Trumpist up. Oh, the states recounting will put an end to this. Oh, the refusal of state govenment to overturn their own results will open the path. Oh, the courts will save us. Oh the Supreme Court will pour this toilet water out and that will be it. Oh, who can take 18 attorneys general and several members of Congress seriously as they gather together before the court.

So far, nothing has stopped this outrageous madness. Alternative measures have numbed our better citizens and roused our most despicable citizens.

I think it may well come down to where the Army stands. Trump shit his pants with them, so they won't turn out for him. I don't dismiss that that move is on the table for Trump. He claims to be defending the nation itself. His cult believes him. It's irritating to listen to news analysts keep talking about this string of events like normality will reassert itself any minute.

Normality will have to be imposed on those refusing to accept reality. There will be blood. The question is how much.

Watching people who are fairly disconnected, but who should know better, just continue down the "everything will be fine" path is fucking infuriating.  No you dumbfucks, it's not fine.  Start paying attention and realize what the fuck is happening.

Normalcy bias is a helluva centrist drug. Meanwhile armed mobs surround the homes of state officials audacious enough to fulfill their ministerial duties and my uncle is on Parler accusing Nancy Pelosi of being a lizard person.

i give him better odds to win in 2024 now, than i would've given him to win in 2020 at any point in the past 6 months.

seriously, if he's still alive, he's got a good shot.

change my mind.

He won’t run. That’s why.

He will never set himself up for a failure like that again. He won in 2016 on a lark with Manafort and the russians who knew what they were doing. That will never be repeated. He lost in 2020 with the power of the presidency and incumbency. Deep down he knows he would lose in 2024 so he simply will not run.

If he’s not dead he will play the role of kingmaker for the entire Republican Party, but he will not run again.

I obviously hope that you're right, but I'll believe it when I see it. Trump has never been popular. He's rich, he's famous, he's powerful, he's rubbed shoulders with other elites. He's fucked pornstars. But he's never been a legitimate fucking rock star until now, having people hang on his every word. It has to be intoxicating for someone as emotionally fragile as him. Combine that with the narcissistic need to rub everyone's face in it after this loss, and that's a lot of temptation.

I'll think he'll take it easy for 3 years, milking rubes by playing the hits ("RINOs, illegitimate Joe, radical left, etc.") at rallies, then ultimately be talked into running after enough people grovel at his feet.

this is what i used to think.  no more.  he can't/won't let it go.  he doesn't know how.

i used to think "he'll say he got cheated, but nobody will care, he's a loser, people move on."  nope.  75% of the people who voted for him think he won, and will continue to think that (or act that way) for the next 4 years.  they cannot wait to pull the lever for that fat fuck again.  they will cry for 4 years and then vote for him as many times as they can.

congress won't stand up to him.  texas is suing to try to overturn the election.  18 states are joining in.  this doesn't end next monday or on january 20th.  i'm not trying to go all brisket here, but this is where we are.  i'm not gonna say the country is in trouble.  the country is the trouble.  we are the problem.  not you and me we, but the citizens of this country fucking suck.

he will lie and cheat and steal (just like 2016 and 2020) and try to correct the cheating that came up short, and he will run again.  and if it's against kamala, he probably wins.  biden, i'm not sure.  i can't figure out a dem i feel confident in right now that would beat him by 7mm votes (which is basically what you need with the ec system).  before this election, i said he was toast.  repeatedly and annoyingly.  i thought that at least 4-5 dems would've kicked his ass.  looking back, it's just biden.  of this i'm positive.

the gop talking points - defund the police, the socialist crap, hunter biden, the radical left, all that garbage - laugh all you want, it all worked.  and it will continue to work.  watch tv.  cnn just interviewed a group of people who were not only positive that trump won in a landslide, but say they can no longer trust fox news (and obviously not cnn) and now only watch newsmax.  we cannot compete with that.  these people are locked down and plugged fucking in, 24-7-3-6-5 around the clock they never close they do not sleep.

they message better, they scare better, and there are a fucking ton of them.  they will not come out for another candidate, that much i know.  i give the gop field a 10% chance in 2024.  only trump.  he got 74mm votes last month.  if you are not horrified by that, then i don't know what to say.

he needs to die.  seriously.  i'm not saying someone needs to kill him.  but he needs to die or he will run for president again.  and he very well could win.

Trump will be 78 in June of 2024. I don’t know how many morbidly obese 78 year olds you routinely encounter, but as someone who sees them all the time I don’t see how he could possibly campaign at that age and in that state of health. Rallies are his thing and he physically won’t be able to do that

that's what i thought 3 years ago.  he's obviously some medical marvel unfortunately, good genes or some shit i guess.  also never actually working will do that as well.

he needs to be upright for 45 min a day - to do his rallies.  the rest of the day he can park his fatass in front of cable news with his tweet-machine in his hand.

he can do 3 rallies a week, never debate, never do shit except tweet, and he'll win the nomination and possibly the general.  all fundraising is done online now anyway.

it's nauseating, but likely.

There is a huge acceleration in the rate of decline in health and activity after age 75, and morbid obesity greatly exacerbates it. These patients also lose “reserve” ie the ability to bounce back after illness or injury. He will need a walker in the near future and is much too vain to use one. I see a series of falls and eventually a broken hip and he’s done

Hopefully sooner rather than later.  I've got a bottle of Dom for January 20th and another for when that fat fuckstick croaks.
