Serrano is a cutie. I’m glad South America finally has a decent women’s tennis player

¿Qué?

2020 French Open Semifinalist Nadia Podoroska (Argentina) is going to smack you with the 720 rankings points she got for making it to the semifinals while you fawn over the 150 rankings points that Osorio Serrano earned for losing to Ann Li.

She's about as Argentinean as Osaka is Japanese. Maybe less!

WTF?

Born, Raised, and Traveled The South American ITF circuit before moving to Europe at around 20 years of age.

Why would she not be totally fucking Argentine?

Is Medvedev not Russian because he now trains in Monoco? Is Tsitsipas not Greek anymore for the same reason? Same for Djokovic? Is Gabriela Sabatini no longer Argentine now that she lives with her lesbian lover in Miami?

Does she need a Spanish or Italian last name to be Argentine? She’s from Messi & Di Maria’s home town of Rosario.

Argentina is a country of immigrants, like the USA. Names and lineage come from all over Europe, pero ella es cien por ciento argentina 🇦🇷

FROM WIKI:
“Podoroska was born on February 10, 1997 in Rosario, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. She grew up in a middle-class family in Fisherton, a neighborhood founded in the late 1880s by railroad workers. She is one of three children born to father Marcelo and mother Irene; she is of Ukrainian descent as her grandparents were Ukrainian but she does not speak the language at all.[4] Her father was a watchmaker by profession who over the years became a pharmacist, and her mother is also a pharmacist. She was the first in her family to play tennis, a sport that she began to practice at the Fisherton Athletic Club at the age of five. As a child, she followed the performances of the Argentine male tennis players, especially Guillermo Cañas, although not so much of the national female representatives because they were broadcast infrequently on television. Among the female tennis players, she admired sisters Venus and Serena Williams.[5]

Her first years on the circuit were complicated, due to financial difficulties to compete internationally. In late 2017, she suffered several injuries that put her career in jeopardy. Upon her return, she took the decision of going to live in Alicante, Spain, to settle in Europe and have greater chances of competing weekly. In addition, she began to be trained by Juan Pablo Guzmán and Emiliano Redondi. She added Pedro Merani to her team, with whom she performs a mental training based on bompu zen and neuroscience, an aspect that she considered important to change her attitude towards tennis and its matches.”

I see she spent more time in Argentina than I thought. It wasn't a Sharapova/Osaka situation where they were born in the nation they represent but moved to another country as a toddler. Regardless, Podoroska AND Ossario Serrano are great for South America. Before those two, there were times where no south american woman was in the top 300 of the WTA ranks. Hopefully this kickstarts the sport again for girls in South America.

After rereading the Wiki line:

In late 2017, she suffered several injuries that put her career in jeopardy. Upon her return, she took the decision of going to live in Alicante, Spain, to settle in Europe…”

Just realized that she may have gone over in 2018 or even 2019.

She has spent all but 2 or 3 years of your life in Argentina.

At the 2020 French Open, none of the announcers & talking heads had ever heard of her and they know about EVERYONE. If you play juniors in European/ USA/ Asian events at all, they are familiar with you and they didn’t have a clue who Nadia was or where she’d come from.

All that said, Camila Osorio Serrano is going to have the much better career. She’s 19 and moving on up. She won a tournament earlier this year, and I don’t know if Podoroska will ever win a singles tournament.

Osorio will have to carry the singles banner and Podoroska is more likely to carry the doubles banner for the Spanish speakers of South America. (There is a Brazilian chica name “Stefani” or something who is far and away the best doubles player south of Panama.)

Covid theater is comedic at times. We’ve known since early 2020 Covid is an airborne virus and doesn’t spread on surfaces, so this is a throwback to the first month of the pandemic. They should next level it and sterilize their balls after each use

Millman just beat Karatsev in St. Petersburg. Maybe Aslan had a late night or something, because he seemed off all match. Hitting wide or long. Lots of overcooked unforced errors.

TCU’s Cam Norrie took the first set from FAA 6-2 without losing a single point on his 4 service games. Not a one. And he even had the announcer jinx to get past with the setup of “If he wins this next point, he will have won all four of his service games without losing a point.” and yet he survived the jinx.

Fritz & Tommy Paul play shortly and…

Emma Raducanu takes the court against [????] at 7:30am CDT… and The Tennis Channel will show her every breath.

NOTE: Cam Norrie just won his first service game of the second set at love. TWENTY straight points on his own serve this match. JFC!

Listening to THE TENNIS PODCAST wrap up of the Billie Jean Cup and apparently Russia cheated to manipulate the lineups.

The lineup goes by rankings, so Russia's #1, Pavyluchenkova, has a 2-6 record against Bencic and Russia's #4 player, Samsonova, is 2-0 vs Bencic.

The only way to match up Samsonova vs Bencic is to put Pavyluchenkova in the lineup card so that Kasatkina is the #2 and then wait until about 15 minutes before the Pavyluchenkova vs Bencic match to announce that Pavyluchenkova had an injury. Her knee injury was "confirmed by an independent doctor".

Normally I don't like Ruskie cheating, but anytime that Bencic can fail due to foul play, I don't mind the foul play.  😁

L-R: Kontaveit, Muguruza, Sakkari, Sabalenka, Krejcikova, Pliskova, Swiatek, Badosa

Iga’s wearing a lovely 1980s Highland Park front drape modeled after those seen on “Dynasty”.

So much ankle!!

She is not yet comfortable with her own sexuality. High school homecoming dresses in the state of Texas would have her running to her bedroom crying.

Pliskova on the court has me mesmerized by how big her nose is and whether it helps her aerodynamics during rallies. Pliskova her has me thinking that I could eat for days. 👀

Sakkari looks surprisingly feminine.

Konteveit looks like a swinger from London in the mid-‘60s, but you have to remember her body from the court to know what a nice package awaits you when that pink slip drops to the floor.

Muguruza looks surprisingly feminine as well. Only a tiny fraction of the surly lesbian vibe she emits on the court.
