Thanks for this info  @UDontKnow

But in the meantime, Xavion Alford portal-ing (likely to USC to be with Craig Naivar) and Brennan Eagles (foolishly) declaring for the NFL draft will be 2 more open positions for the next coaching staff to fill.

Also...

  • Ja'Quinden Jackson went to Utah

Someone help me understand here... is he suggesting they would have come back and improved their draft stock? Because that’s a reach - Caden’s stock is sinking like a rock, Eagles has never shown to have it, and Ossai, Cosmi are gonna do just fine.

Or is this some reference to NCAA changing their rules, in which case are we even talking much money anyways?

A few could significantly improve their draft position by returning to TEXAS in 2021.

Definitely ok for Cosmi, Ossai, and Chris Brown to leave early since they all had good 2020 seasons.

Caden and Eagles leaving early probably costs them a lot of money on their first contracts -- btw they may not make a 2021 NFL Roster.

TQ 's stock is rising and he has already gone thru 4yrs of CFB so leaving for the NFL now also makes sense especially with the successes of Poona, Roach, and Charles O.

I don’t even consider TQ, Brown as early entrants. Know they can technically come back but they’ve both played 4 years. Probably have their degrees, they should go get paid.

Thinking Sterns and Eagles are all of a sudden going to have great senior year is wishful thinking. Sterns’ stock has never been as high as it was about 6 games into his freshman year. Playing another year and removing all doubt that he’s not very good/athletic will guarantee he doesn’t get drafted. Eagles hasn’t appreciably improved during his time here. Combine that with breaking in a new QB and I don’t see him playing his way into a high round grade.

Dont get me wrong - I think both are making a bad decision. But that doesn’t mean I think they’d come back and play their way into becoming a high nfl pick either.

Brewer coming back makes me feel even worse about this team next year.
Jeez, more slot time for Brewer threatening unsuspecting linebackers with his amazing speed and route running.

I was certain this would be his last year and welcomed the idea of having Wiley as the default TE1. Unbelievable.

Juwan Mitchell is coming back unfortunately

He seemed to get a lot better as the year progressed, when he wasn't getting targeting penalties of course. If he can clean up his penchant for making dumbass mistakes like that and continue on this trajectory skill-wise, he might be very good next season.

The roster has talent in spots.  Whatever depth we had built is fucking out the window now.  We need to win now with Bijan, J Whit, Smith, TO21, Wiley and Card.  One of those guys needs to touch the ball every play.  Out side of those guys plus RoJo, the rest of this roster is meh and full of JAGs on offense.  We have athletes on defense but there won't be any elite guys outside of Collins and Overshown... maybe Crhis Adimora.

Agree that Jack and LB depth need help.  Wonder if #44 (TO) could drop down to LB??  Adimora sure was underwhelming at times at Spur.

Secondary needs to have more interceptions in 2021 -- Stern's was horrible this past season.  Really need a great off-season of DB practice and development.  Is BJ ever gonna be healthy??

Using the new transfer rule could really help at Jack, LB and Safety.  No doubt they need another transfer at OT and maybe one guy that could provide depth for OG/C.  Still need a stud big WR (maybe Omeire), and possibly at least one true burner WR to spread the field better.

The TE position was underutilized in 2020, and presents a real development opportunity in 2021 with the guys coming back.

There's a nice 2021 Roster returning, but definitely some areas that need additional depth/talent to give TEXAS a chance to earn a trip to the B12 CCG...

What does our DE 2-deep look like?  Where does Dorbah fit in?  Just saw Sanders play New Year’s Day. Dude is going to be special.

At SDE I would envision our top two entering spring are Jacoby Jones and Leitao, but there are a lot of players who could factor in here, such as Broughton.

Dorbah seems like the logical heir apparent at JACK, but I barely heard about or saw him at all this season. He needs to be a hit. I wonder if we'll try out Bimage at JACK if he returns.

Sanders is a total stud. The old staff supposedly told him he could play on both sides of the ball to begin his career. That will be one of the storylines to watch in the spring.

Thank you for starting this thread.  I'm excited about actual discussions about the staff, recruiting, schemes, and this roster.

QB:  I'm really interested in how this plays out.  Casey will want to be the starter and he will portal if Card beats him out or if Bryce Young follows Sark.  Also curious if Sark looks around and trys to bring in a veteran transfer like Riley does every year.  I really want to see what Casey can do but not sure how he fits into Sark's offense.

RB:  Easy decision.  Give Bijan the damn ball and let RoJo spell him when he's tired.  RoJo would also be good for short yardage downs with how violent he likes to run.  Go sign LJ or drop a few bags on Wheaton's door step.  Wheaton would be a very good change of pace back.  We don't have any RBs on our roster with his 4.3 speed.

WR:  TO21, JWhitt, Moore, Dixon, Jake Smith (if he doesn't transfer).  Lots of talent here but I would like for us to see who we can get from the transfer portal.  This should be the easiest position to get an infusion of talent and speed with his offense.  Won't take much to convince some good WRs at lower profile schools to come here.

OL:  I like Karic, Angilau, and Majors.  I think we'll need 2 transfers for RG and RT.  I would not depend on Kerstetter to come back at 100% after his injury and even if he does, he played terribly this year (even if it was out of position).  I think bring in a seasoned RG and RT to shore up this line.  Christian Jones needs more time.  Tyler Johnson has it physically, not sure why he hasn't been able to put it together.  He's got NFL size at guard.

TE:  Give Jared Wiley the damn ball and give Ja'Tavion Sanders reps here as well.

DL:  We'll need to find a edge rusher in the portal.  Reese Leitao and Jett Bush should never see playing time.  They both should be at a place like Baylor or UNT.  Marquez Bimage is okay.  He hasn't played in a year.  I would build this line around Collins, Coburn, and Sweat.  Ojomo is solid, Jacoby Jones is solid.  Need to get an elite pass rusher.  Get Ja'tavion Sanders on the field on defense as well.

LB:  Just keep developing these guys.  Juwan Mitchell needs to go.  Too many bone headed penalties and the dude shouldn't be allowed to be in the locker room with his emotional swings.  Ford, Hullaby, Gbenda have shown promise.  Bring in a seasoned LB to complement Overshown.  Show Tyler Owens the feedback from scouts about Overshown and tell him if he has any hopes of playing in the league, he needs to put on 15-20 pounds and learn to play physical.  Owens is a physical freak that needs to be coached up and put in the right position to succeed.  He was a 5 star simply because he had an NFL body and speed in high school.  We have to be able to start developing players like him if we want to compete with Bama.

DB:  This should be the easiest.  Adimora, BJ Foster, Jamison, Jalen Green, Josh T, Jerrin T, Crawford and Barron.  There is a lot of talent and high effort guys here.  This doesn't even include Anthony Cook who will probably portal out.  If you can get Corey Raymond, you do whatever you can to bring Stingley here.

Sark has to know that year one is very important.  If he wins 10+ games next year, he's going to have recruits line up to play for him.  If he doesn't win, he will continue to see the elite guys go to other programs.  We have to see results.

Tell any senior wanting to come back thanks but no thanks - send them all packing. There's not one of them that made a difference to where you'd risk an underclassmen transferring due to them getting extra time. Just because the NCAA gave them an extra year doesn't mean UT has to.

Tell Mitchell it is also time to go as he is terrible, even if Huntzler & Ash are kept he can GTFO, he is Texas' "Slo-Neal"

I'd take a healthy Kerstetter back at right tackle.

Really really difficult to project the roster at this point due to the transfer rules.

QB: Thompson/Card/TBD/Wright.  Sark will bring in somebody, whether a legit contender or a grad transfer that doesn’t mind being 3rd string.  Sark will have to be prepared to lose Thompson if Card starts.  Both Thompson and Card are high upside players but lack experience.  Wright is a 3rd tier prospect.  They need a 4th scholly guy in the room. Grade: C+ with upside.

RB: Robinson/Johnson/Brooks/TBD. Robinson is a Heisman caliber player.  Johnson is an ideal backup.  Brooks is one of the nations most underrated recruits.  I expect Ingram to transfer and Sark to bring in an upperclassman to be 4th string.  Grade A+.

WR: Moore/Smith/Omeire, Woodard/Whittington/Schooler, Washington/Dixon/Lewis, Money/Cain/Alexis.  Lots of flux in this as several guys could be gone or added.  Also Sanders’ position remains to be seen.  Either way with a core of Smith, Moore, and Whittington coming back there is plenty of talent and experience and likely plenty of depth.  Grade A.

TE: Wiley/Brewer/Epps/Davis.  At least one guy will transfer (I picked Liebrock).  Wiley is a high upside pick and although Brewer wasn’t great getting him back will add insurance.  Again transfers could be key here.  Grade B.

OL: Karic/Angilau/Majors/Okafor/Kerstetter, Hookfin/Tyler/Ghirmai/Johnson/Jones, Conner/Imade/Garth/Parr/Moore, Helm/Merril.  This is one spot I think Sark and the OL coach could really improve the roster.  But the depth is there, even if the talent level and experience is lacking a bit.  Grade: C- with upside.

So the offense is in pretty good shape.  Assuming Sark chooses the right QB and develops him, and adds 2-3 OL who can play, there’s nothing holding this offense back from being conference-champ caliber.

DL: Broughton/Collins/Coburn, Sanders/Ojomo/Sweat, Sorrel/Warren/Jones, Thomas/Murphy/Welch.  Another spot with flux, but there are at least 3 NFL guys with experience in this group.  They may need to add some depth via transfer but this is probably the best DL we’ve had in 10 years.

LB: Overshown/Ford/Dorbah, Hullaby/Adeoye/Jacquess, Harris/Blackwell/Bush.  Again lots of unknowns.  Outside of Overshown not a lot to love.  Grade C- with upside.

DB: Jamison/Foster/Owens/Thompson/Adimora, Green/Thompson/Dunn/Cook/Barron, Crawford/Coffey/Ibraheem/Johnson/Caldwell.  Even with the risk of losing a couple guys, there is a lot of talent here.  Grade B+.

The defense needs to find a replacement for Ossai via transfer and possibly add one or two guys for depth, but assuming the DL and Overshown continue to develop, this defense has a chance to be really, really good.

There is 10 wins worth of talent, depth, and experience on this roster.

I had assumed that he was out just due to injury. Seems a lot to rehab back for another UT season would he could do same and go into NFL potentially. Unless he feels that he was criminally underused at center and could put better film up at RT.

He was a solid RT who was miscast at center because our previous coaching staff screwed the pooch in securing a proper replacement for Shackelford.

Sark has to know that year one is very important.  If he wins 10+ games next year, he's going to have recruits line up to play for him.  If he doesn't win, he will continue to see the elite guys go to other programs.  We have to see results.

We'll need to find a edge rusher in the portal.

Agree but I would like to see Collins get tried at DE in the spring.   Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe he has the quicks to be a monster there.  Bookends of him and Sanders at DE could be something.

"QB:  I'm really interested in how this plays out.  Casey will want to be the starter and he will portal if Card beats him out or if Bryce Young follows Sark.  Also curious if Sark looks around and trys to bring in a veteran transfer like Riley does every year.  I really want to see what Casey can do but not sure how he fits into Sark's offense."

Unless Mac Jones returns in 2021 Bryce Young will be the starter, He is the only QB on the roster to have had any meaningful snaps. The only other is Paul Tyson who was a pretty good high school QB, but he's only played a few snaps last year.

I guess it's possible Saban gets a transfer to add insurance but it will be Bryce Youngs team. I can't see him walking away from that to go to Texas on a chance he gets the job. Of course I'm not a 19 year old so anything is possible.
