A story about a pathetic man's downfall

I'll give him credit for not fucking it up, like he did so many other things.  That was one thing he kinda just hung back on, and we're all better off for it.
But I don't get this delusion that Trumpers have (I fully accept Trump thinks it was all his idea).  But there isn't an American alive who wouldn't have addressed the proposal any differently than Trump did, Biden would have, I would have, you would have, Tom Herman would have, everybody would have gone something like this:
"President Trump/Biden/Herman/Lobo/Kardashian.  All the big Pharma CEO's are here to meet with you.  They are asking for removing all regulatory obstacles and $20bn in federal funding to expedite the development of vaccines to combat Covid-19.  And then once they have been developed, for the FDA to grant emergency use and the government's help in deploying the vaccine nationwide.  What should I tell them?"

Every single American would have said the exact same thing that Trump did, "Sure, give them whatever they need to get this done."
I don't understand why people think Trump did something super special here.  He wasn't lying awake in bed one night, jumped up and ran downstairs, and yelled, "I have an idea to save us from Covid-19.  We could ask pharmaceutical companies to develop a vaccine that would protect us from the virus.  To develop the vaccine, we could make it easier for them to do trials.  We could even offer them money and help make and ship the vaccine once it's ready!"
Again, he at least rubber stamped it, didn't put his usual Trump stink all over the initiative.  Basically said, "Remove the roadblocks, give 'em the cash, see what they need on the back end."  For once, he actually showed off his supposed CEO chops.
But, do people really think that's what happened?  Like, he invented the idea of a vaccine expedition?

You forgot the part where he simultaneously denied it would be here, then said it would not be bad and would soon disappear, all while creating and promoting a no mask wearing culture.

If he had done NOTHING on vaccines, but mandated and encouraged mask wearing, we would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives - even if we wound up buying Pfizer’s left overs in 2021.

To be fair, President Trump’s four years in office weren’t so bad, except when when he incited an insurrection against the government, mismanaged a pandemic that killed nearly half a million Americans, separated children from their families, lost those children in the bureaucracy, tear-gassed peaceful protesters on Lafayette Square so he could hold a photo op holding a Bible in front of a church, when he tried to block all Muslims from entering the country, he got impeached, got impeached again, had the worst jobs record of any president in modern history, pressured Ukraine to dig dirt on Joe Biden, fired the FBI director for investigating his ties to Russia, bragged about firing the FBI director on TV, took Vladimir Putin’s word over the US intelligence community, diverted military release his tax returns, increased the national debt by nearly $8 trillion, had three of the highest annual trade deficits in U.S. history, called veterans and soldiers who died in combat losers and to drive him around Walter Reed while contagious with COVID, told the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by,” fucked up the Census, withdrew the U.S. from the World Health Organization in the middle of a pandemic, did so few of his duties that his press staff were forced to state on his daily schedule “President Trump will work from early in the morning until late in the evening. He will make many calls and have many meetings,” allowed his staff to repeatedly violate the Hatch Act, seemed not to know that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican, stood before sacred CIA wall of heroes and bragged about his election win, constantly claimed he was treated worse than any president which presumably includes four that were assassinated and his predecessor whose legitimacy and birthplace were challenged by a racist reality TV show star named Donald Trump, claimed Andrew Jackson could’ve stopped the Civil War even though he died 16 years before it happened, said that any opinion poll showing him behind was fake, claimed that other countries laughed at us before he became president when several world leaders were literally laughing at him, claimed that the military was out of ammunition before he became President, created a commission to whitewash American history, retweeted anti-Islam videos from one of the most racist people in Britain, claimed ludicrously that the Pulse nightclub shooting wouldn’t have happened if someone there had a gun even though there was an armed security guard there, hired a senior staffer who cited the non-existent Bowling Green Massacre as a reason to ban Muslims, had a press secretary who claimed that Nazi Germany never used chemical weapons even though every sane human being knows they used gas to kill millions of Jews and others, bilked the Secret Service for higher than market rates when they had to stay at Trump properties, apparently sold pardons on his way out of the White House, stripped protective status from 59,000 Haitians, falsely claimed Biden wanted to defund the police, said that the head of the CDC didn’t know what he was talking about, tried to rescind protection from DREAMers, gave himself an A+ for his handling of the pandemic, tried to start a boycott of Goodyear tires due to an Internet hoax, said U.S. rates of COVID would be lower if you didn’t count blue states, deported U.S. veterans who served their country but were undocumented, claimed he did more for African Americans than any president since Lincoln, touted a “super-duper” secret “hydrosonic” missile which may or may not be a new “hypersonic” missile or may not exist at all, retweeted a gif calling Biden a pedophile, forced through security clearances for his family, suggested that police officers should rough up suspects, suggested that Biden was on performance-enhancing drugs, tried to stop transgender students from being able to use school bathrooms in line with their gender, suggested the US not accept COVID patients from  a cruise ship because it would make US numbers look higher, nominated a climate change sceptic to chair the committee advising the White House on environmental policy, retweeted a video doctored to look like Biden had played a song called “Fuck tha Police” at a campaign event, hugged a disturbingly large number of U.S. flags, accused Democrats of “treason” for not applauding his State of the Union address, claimed that the FBI failed to capture the Parkland school shooter because they were “spending too much time” on Russia, mocked the testimony of Dr Christine Blasey Ford when she accused Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault, obsessed over low-flow toilets, ordered the rerelease of more COVID vaccines when there weren’t any to release, called for the construction of a bizarre garden of heroes with statutes of famous dead Americans as well as at least one Canadian (Alex Trebek), hijacked Washington’s July 4th celebrations to give a partisan speech, took advice from the MyPillow guy, claimed that migrants seeking a better life in the US were dangerous caravans of drug dealers and rapists, said nothing when Vladimir Putin poisoned a leading opposition figure, never seemed to heed the advice of his wife’s “Be Best” campaign, falsely claimed that mail-in voting is fraudulent, announced a precipitous withdrawal of troops from Syria which not only handed Russia and ISIS a win but also prompted his defense secretary to resign in protest, insulted the leader of Canada, insulted the leader of France, insulted the leader of Britain, insulted the leader of Germany, insulted the leader of Sweden (Sweden!!), falsely claimed credit for getting NATO members to increase their share of dues, blew off two Asia summits even though they were held virtually, continued lying about spending lots of time at Ground Zero with 9/11 responders, said that the Japanese would sit back and watch their “Sony televisions” if the US were ever attacked, left a NATO summit early in a huff, stared directly into an eclipse even though everyone over the age of 5 knows not to do that, called himself a very stable genius despite significant evidence to the contrary, refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power and kept his promise, and a whole bunch of other things I can’t remember at the moment.

And yet the vast majority of white people in this country said give me four more years of this please. Make it make sense.

Yeah, he could have "hung back" but also exhibited the tiniest bit of actual leadership and empathy for the American people.

Shrub was a dumbass that made a bunch of policy mistakes and hired all the wrong people.  But when he spoke to the people, he was at least a bit leaderly and at least semi-compassionate.

Okay, I've been enjoying not paying too much attention to this guy since he left, but what is this referring to?  Where he asked for them to find him 11,000 more votes?  Didn't we already have that months ago or is there something new?

and it is even more pathetic.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/10/politics/donald-trump-georgia-phone-call/index.html

Quote

(CNN)In a phone call to the Georgia secretary of state's office in December, then-President Donald Trump urged a top investigator to find fraud in the 2020 presidential election, telling her that she would be "praised" for overturning results that were in favor of Joe Biden, according to audio of the call obtained by CNN.

The report is the latest example of Trump's extraordinary efforts to influence Georgia election officials as they certified the results, even though there is no evidence of widespread fraud in the election. Trump's actions have drawn the attention of Georgia's Republican secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, as well as a Fulton County prosecutor who has launched a criminal investigation.

"When the right answer comes out, you'll be praised," Trump tells Frances Watson, the chief investigator at the Georgia secretary of state's office, in a six-minute conversation on December 23, according to the Journal.

"I won everything but Georgia. And I won Georgia, I know that. By a lot. And the people know it. And something happened there. Something bad happened," Trump reportedly told Watson during the phone call.

The Washington Post was the first to report on details of the call. On Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal published a recording of the call that it obtained.
At the time, Watson was investigating the secretary of state's office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's audit of more than 15,000 signatures in Cobb County, outside Atlanta. Results of the audit found no evidence of fraudulent mail-in ballots and Biden was declared winner of Georgia in the election.

Quote

"I hope you are going back two years as opposed to checking one against the other," Trump can be heard saying on the call. "Because that would just be a signature check that didn't mean anything."
Trump went on to tell Watson to also look at Fulton County, the most populous county in the state and the one that houses most of Atlanta.
"But if you go back two years, and if you can get to Fulton, you are going to find things that are going to be unbelievable," the then-President said. "The dishonesty that we've heard from. But Fulton is the mother lode."
Watson responded: "I can assure you that our team and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, that we are only interested in the truth and finding the information that is based on the facts."
Ari Schaffer, spokesperson for Raffensperger's office, told CNN, "This phone call is just one more example of how Secretary Raffensperger's office's public comments also reflect what was said in one-on-one conversations: We would follow the law, count every legal vote and investigate any allegations of fraud. That's exactly what we did, and how we arrived at the accurate final vote tally."
A spokesman for Trump did not respond to a CNN request for comment regarding the call between Trump and Watson.
Raffensperger's office is also investigating Trump for his attempts to overturn the state's election results. A separate, criminal investigation into Trump's attempts to overturn the 2020 election results in Georgia is currently underway by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Investigators in both probes are interested in Trump's call to Watson, according to sources familiar with the probes.
Willis made her investigative intentions clear with a round of letters to Georgia state officials in February, asking them to preserve documents relevant to election interference as she investigated potential state crimes including the solicitation of election fraud, conspiracy and racketeering.
A source familiar with the Georgia secretary of state's investigation confirmed officials are looking at two phone calls made by Trump to their office. One is the January phone call where Trump pushed Raffensperger to "find" votes to overturn the election results after his loss to Biden. The other involves the call Trump made on December 23 to Watson.
In a previous statement to CNN, on February 9, Trump's senior adviser Jason Miller said there was nothing "improper or untoward" about the call between Trump and Raffensperger.
"If Mr. Raffensperger didn't want to receive calls about the election, he shouldn't have run for secretary of state," Miller said in the statement.

@Beau Vine out of respect for the thread, I won’t quote your entire post but I will say it was one of the best I’ve seen - and the most thorough.

That said, don’t forget about retweeting the “white power” video from FL.  Just for the sake of completeness.

I had a running list on my reddit account that I haven't' updated in a year or so.   I would pop it out whenever some asks what is so bad with trump.

  • lies: dude lies about virtually everything. It’s embarrassing. Potus should be a role model.
  • profane behavior: it’s embarrassing and juvenile. We are a laughing stock on the world stage.
  • kowtowing to Saudi Arabia and Russia: fuck that shit. What are his motives for this?
  • 2 counts of conspiracy to violate election law: see the Cohen trial. Trump as individual 1 in paying off porn stars. Corruption isn’t cool.
  • 10 counts of obstructing the investigation into Russian election interference: see part 2 of the mueller report. Corruption isn’t cool.
  • the bribery/extortion scheme to obtain a personal political benefit from withholding military aid to an ally that is in open conflict with russia.
  • his general disregard for the rule of law.
  • politicizing the DOJ by stepping in and getting a lighter sentence for Roger Stone.
  • his use of division, tribalism, and xenophobia in his politik: potus should bring the country together, not use division and fear for political gain.
  • dude is a confessed sexual predator: that isn’t cool.
  • giving daughter and son positions in the White House is unethical.
  • his attacks on the fbi, DOJ, and intelligence community serve no one but trump and our adversaries, such as Russia.
  • separating families and putting kids in cages: US loses the moral high ground from shit like that.
  • supporting/pardoning war criminals: US loses the moral high ground and it disrupts the ability of our military to operate at its best.
  • abandoning the Kurds: an ally. This weakens our world standing and ability to project power. What did trump personally receive in return for this?
  • pushing conspiracy theories is dangerous: birtherism, vaccines and autism, Ukraine’s election interference, deep state, etc.
  • trade wars: barriers to trade have historically led to military conflict. As a general rule, better and increased trade between parties leads to deescalation of tensions.
  • tension with allies: allegiances with Canada, France, Australia, Germany, nato, etc. are good for America. Tension only benefits our adversaries, I.e., Russia.
  • tax returns: what is he hiding? Who does his allegiances lie with?
  • emoluments: he chose to not divest and is currently profiting from a range of domestic and foreign entities. Are these profits motivating any executive decisions? Corruption isn’t cool.
  • tax cuts for wealthy and corporations: trading short term political gain for increased deficit and harm to future generations. Propping up our economy with deficits is poor governance.
  • declaring manufactured emergencies to redirect funds for military families for a southern barriers that experts think is a waste.
  • giving legitimacy to the leader of North Korea.

I'm a little surprised at the folks who believe he is gearing up for 2024. I don't think that is going to be a success. Now, Ivanka, who has gone quiet, is most likely spending some time practicing and honing her skills. She went quiet on social media for the most part in mid January and that was intentional on her part. Let Don Jr. make a bunch of noise while she navigates whether to take on Florida as a toehold and whether she can persuade money to back her.

For now, that certainly seems to be true.  https://www.politico.com/news/2021/03/14/trump-post-presidency-475733

Ex-president Donald Trump finds himself adrift while in political exile. And Republicans, and even some allies, say he is disorganized, torn between playing the role of antagonist and party leader.

“There is no apparatus, no structure and part of that is due to a lack of political understanding on Trump’s behalf,” said a person close to the former president, noting that Trump has struggled to learn the ropes of post-presidential politicking.

It makes a certain amount of sense in that without all the attention, he personally flags.  He's never really been good at "politicking," he's just good at "look at me," and no one is really looking.

I learned to loathe the man 30 years ago when he was an "up-and-comer" trying to insert himself into just about everything.  Then he faded away.  Then he had a brief resurgence with The Apprentice that I paid little attention to as I had already dismissed him as an unserious person.

I suppose it's possible that he resurges yet again, but he is old, and he does look like shit.  I guess that goes to show that being POTUS is hard on you even when you aren't very serious or presidential about it.

Twitter banning him was the best thing that could have happened short of him being convicted by the Senate and banned from office.  He lost his primary outlet.

I agree. Although, one phenomenon that is developing is the whitewashing of the man and his administration. He's always been held up as a paragon (cult leader), but without any new material, the resurrection of the old and slapping some paint and gilding on it has continued on OANN and Newsmax. DeSantis being quoted as 'Trump had it right on border policy' for example.

I give it 1/3.  At best.  He's obese, doesn't exercise, enjoys a diet of Big Macs, and hasn't been able to string a coherent sentence together in years.  He probably abuses uppers and lives off rage and grievance.  He'll be dead by 2022.
